Hi Everyone! I’m Brett Kelso and thank you for kicking it with me on my channel. I’m a 24-year-old guitarist and very passionate about alternative rock, so here you will find guitar covers, gear reviews, and more all within the realm of the alternative music scene.
i believe you’re using a modeler - what tube amp is being simulated here? rhythm and lead - it sounds phenomenal - i’m in the minority in that i do NOT like the aesthetics of these guitars, but they sound fantastic
I’m using a Fender Deluxe 65’ Reverb for the clean and a Mesa Boogie Triple Crown Pre-Amp for the heavy distortion through Amplitube 5. Honestly, if I redid this now I would have used my Boss Metalzone Distortion rather than opting for the High Gain Pre-Amp but it is what it is. Yeah I totally get it these MJ Guitars are definitely hit or miss. I can see why some don’t like them visually but they have always been a favorite of mine. Thanks for tuning in!
I want to say I had all of the settings at 10 O’clock for the electric parts and for the acoustic I did about the same. Let me know how it sounds and if you need any other help!
I feel like the guitar sound in this cover seems to match more closely with the sound of the guitar in the demo version I've heard: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tC1aTVgSgVc.html I'm not sure exactly as to why that might be though!
This video was a little over a year ago when my mixing wasn’t as smooth as it is now. I definitely would have lowered my guitar some if I were to cover this now. On the record, it’s not mixed super high (at least to me). It could also be because I am playing a guitar with two full size Humbuckers as opposed to single coils. I didn’t have some of the guitars I use for recording now at that time, so that could be part of it. The guitar on the debut record is a Musicman Sabre II which is more in the realm of fender guitars I.E. Tele, Strat, etc.
@@BDKelso2000 no worries, go back and listen to the recording, they make use of the double tuned strings to get that cool bend sound. dont always trust sonic youth tabs, listen to the recording
You playing this reminded me how Tony defintely got overshadowed by Kevin. But his work on OOTV and Ursa Major was underrated. Bonfire for example was some great songwriting.
They’re all similar but each have their own style at the same time. When Kevin was in the band he brought the signature sound of 3eb which is massive chords and arpeggiated riffs often in an open tuning or other alternate tuning. This along with creative effects to spice it up. Tony in my opinion has more of a metal aspect to his playing, as shown here, but he borrowed a lot of influence from Kevin using some of his tunings to create songs and this proved successful for him later on. Once those guys left, the guitar playing took a massive turn in 3eb.
@@BDKelso2000 -- I miss the old days...but I'm older...and nostalgia seems to grow with age. When Cadogan left, in my opinion, 3EB lost half of its soul...
@@ericwindhorst347I feel the same way. I think Tony is a respectable guitarist in that he tried to emulate Kevin’s sound but without a doubt Kevin made 3EB’s guitar sound and without him, they would have been totally different.
Yes, it’s coming soon. I’ve had dozens of requests for it. For some of the songs from Tony’s era I’ve had to reach out to him with regard to the tunings used.
Jeezuz Bloody Chrysler... That Mirage almost looks like the electric lime green MJ that Kevin used a few times right before Y2K. Beautiful rendition played on a beautiful guitbox. Wish they still made those Mirages. I'm gratified to see one in the hands of someone who can actually play it to the edge of its capabilities. Such a rare instrument in my clumsy hands would be an utter waste. 🤣
The Green/Purple Mirage I own was his as was the Hollowbody I’m playing in this video. The proof lies within the serial number on the Green MJ which has 98’ KC 3EB and the hollowbody has a custom case with Bully written on it. Great guitars and Mark is still building but it’s been private work for the most part over the last couple of years. I own 3 Mirages and he definitely is one of the best luthiers out there.
I've seen a bunch of your covers before but never commented until now, but they're all spot on and perfect. This is one of my favorites by 3EB and you did a great job. I always love that part at 2:32 where it repeats the chorus again, "hold me down.."
Wow, thanks! It’s been a’lot of work with these videos but it’s always fun making them. Yeah Burning Man has always been one of my favorites. The chorus especially, as you pointed out.
Yeah he contributed a lot to 3EB. Still can’t believe I have this particular Mirage as it was always my favorite. I got lucky getting ahold of another one his last year and then somehow got lucky again with this one a few months later. I play them all the time and they are my workhorse instruments.
@@matthewh1802 I have no idea if he is a regular viewer or not but I remember sending him my guitar cover I did for his song “Chill” a while back which he congratulated me on.
Thanks! Really appreciate it :) Yeah that’s one of my favorite parts of Narcolepsy. I’ve actually been considering a new guitar cover for it since I have a new PRS McCarty which Cadogan would use live for this song.
Haha I’m lucky to have 3. They have become extremely rare these days. That said I’m always searching for one so if I catch one for sale I’ll let you know!
Nice! Hoping you can grab one soon. I’m always on the lookout and I recently helped a friend get one for a really good deal. I would imagine I am one of the very few people out there who still regularly play them. They’re the best👊🏻
I also thank Arion for Interstate 76 soundtrack. I didn't even know who he was when the game came out, but I immediately thought the music was super cool.
Right on Brett!! I got to see and hear that El Toro on tours. Loved it when the room went dark in prep for the "Jumper" bass solo...then the Zon neck lit up....totally rad!
Thanks Richard!! What a tour that was. El’ Toro is a special bass, so I knew it deserved its own video. Arion’s talent for the instrument is remarkable and he was one of my first influences when I was a kid. Thanks for tuning in✌🏻
