I have a question? What is the pro and cons of having a muffler before the turbo and after the turbo?

Hi mate, great videos. Hey I have a situation. I believe my engine has been put together with only the new channel in #1 cam bearing location but no restrictor in #4. Do you think engine will need to be pulled back down ?

does anyone know where you can buy the M8 x 1.25 tapered plugs ? I've searched everywhere online can only find the finer thread M8 x 1.0 thread in the tapered plugs which I suspect is too fine for cast iron. I can find M8 x 1.25 grub screws, but they aren't tapered, which I'd prefer to avoid as it has the potential to drop into the oil gallery if it did happen to break lose. I would loctite it, but still.... peace of mind

thanks for the very detailed explanation. The oiling system on these engines is really their achilles heel. Not sure why Holden would have ever considered leaving the main bearings as such a low priority. I've got a moderately worked 5L, makes 310-320rwhp in my VH SS. It's mainly a street car, but I like to get it out on the track for a few sprint days every year. I take it no higher than 6200RPM, but I usually keep fairly constantly between 4500-6200RPM for most of the lap as that's where the best power range is. Pulled the bearing caps off a few times now with less than 15,000kms on the engine since the last time and the bearings, mains & big ends are shot again. I've done the performance oil pump mod, using your other video as a guide, I also fitted an ASR 6.5L internally gated sump. But bearings just aren't lasting. So engine is out again at the moment about this oiling stuff, I need to get a little more serious. I watched the COME Racing video, but Sam doesn't go too far into depth. Your explanation is really good. I like to know the reasoning behind the mods, and you explain trace the order of oiling circuit so thoroughly, so I now understand why the mods are done. Also I don't think Sam mentioned what size restrictor hole to drill into the #4 camshaft tunnel, but you mentioned 2mm, so that was good to know. Only thing I would like to see or find out a little more is what sort of drill you used to drill the hole in #1. I can't imagine getting a drill in there. Maybe you used a 90deg drill and I assume the hole would end up on a big of angle as you wouldn't get the drill in there straight. Still not real confident taking to an engine block with a drill and dremel, but this video certainly boosts my confidence a little.
@griffsrearmountturbothemod1623
@griffsrearmountturbothemod1623 2 месяца назад
Gday mate, i drilled the hole on the angle, was tricky but quite doable. Great little mod and will ensure the mains gets a good supply coupled with the pump mod... I deeply feel through others having chopped out rod bearings is from oil surge, thats a big problem when the heads can't return oil quick enough back to sump, running a big volume pan with improved drain backs can really help durability and of course the mods are the icing on the cake.. Thanks for your indepth comment I enjoyed reading it, goodluck with yours 👍

It’s good for weight on the rear tires, and cool air is more hp too, If you have a v8 turbo lag is near non existent plus everything uses 2 step anyway Or The piping is similar length with no intercooler

Hi griff, love the progress you’ve made on your vehicles. I Have a couple of questions. I’m planning on doing a turbo stroker and wondering if a cast crank will be enough for my power level. Between 600-700 on the high. Are you using cast cranks in your 308 and 355
@griffsrearmountturbothemod1623
@griffsrearmountturbothemod1623 9 месяцев назад
Gday mate, I've had no issues with cast cranks, I know of others who ran them n/a making solid power around 600 fly wheel and spinning them to 7500 with no issues. I've bent rods,destroyed pistons, punched holes in bores, blown countless headgaslets with no crank issues at all, but I have set my rev limit to 6300 because the 355 rod and piston package is a little heavy, if you want to spin it high keep it strong and light.Im not saying cast cranks are indestructible but with a bit of prep work and a realistic goal you can have a reliable engine. My engine has the oiling mod to block and pump, full balance of the rotating assembly including flex plate, dampener, rods and pistons. The guys that give cast cranks a bad rep is usually from a lack of prep and other problems causing a failure. Hope that helps a little 👍
@grantL-bo2ts
@grantL-bo2ts 9 месяцев назад
I’ll tell you my plans for my build. It’s a 253 bored and stroked into a 300. 3.705” bore and 3.48” stroke. I’ve modified the oil pump and block oiling. The pistons are actually forced ford 4.6L modular pistons, 407 grams but need to be milled roughly 0.080”. 6” Scat h-beam rods. When I get the crankshaft, I’ll finish the Clearancing and have the hole rotating assembly balanced. I’ve got two sets of pre-pollution heads, one set is standard and the other has L34 valve. Which I’m going to check for clearance and shrouding.

Hey Bud, maybe wait till the hoist goes in and jet wash it on the hoist and then wash out the workshop !!!! You'll have to find some way of keeping rain and water sloshing off the road wetting the air filter too. If you run a pod filter. The ratio is stamped on the dust cover flange on the pinion yoke. You've got to be really careful with fish oil because it'll corrode copper wiring and connections quick as anything. She's gunna be a beast when it's finished haha. Take care, stay safe mate. Seeya Rob.....Hey Neat I hope your doing great, keep moving forward.

Solid base for the project mate! And that turbo location will suit it down to the ground. Senator Malcom Roberts sat down for a great interview on the Gypsy Tales Podcast a couple years ago. If you haven't had a listen its worth it. Side note, Podcasts have been an absolute game changer. When the radio keeps playing the same old songs, and your own playlists are getting a bit long in the tooth, you have this fresh inrush of amazing in-depth discussion to listen to on a long road trip or whilst plugging away in the shed.
