thanks again,Perfect Pitch! I hike the AZT October 1st 2024. It was so awesome! Now I live in AZ. I hiked the whole trail without wearing any socks! I don't ever wear socks.
I know this video is a few years old, but I am loving it! Thank you for putting your hike together in this series. It has been very helpful to watch your video as you hike this trail and helps with my planning for my coming winter hike of the Ozark Highlands Trail. You also have a great "radio" voice and videography style. Thank you!
Hey! I have been wanting to do this trail for awhile now.. I haven't started the actual planning yet. Watching your video has helped me feel like it's possible. I'm not going to hoof it as fast as y'all. ;P . Great vid. Thanks
If you've never thru-hiked this will be a great trail to start with. It's well-marked, easy to follow, and flat from beginning to end. You can definitely do it. Of course, it's always better with a friend. I wouldn't do it that fast again either we were messing around. Thanks for checking out the video good luck out there!!!
31:20 I agree with you that the OHT is a n awesome trail. Of course, anything in the Rockies will be "epic". But the OHT is a great trail with some very cool views. I have hiked parts of it in the spring and parts in the fall and both have their own beauty. I only have the section from Ozone to Woolum left and am looking forward to finishing it. I live in SW MO and it is close enough to section hike with my busy life. Thanks for the great video and a really good idea of what to expect on my next couple of hikes.
Thanks for checking out the video!! I hadn't hiked in the Rockies at the time of this hike, but I agree they are epic. I will say it's probably one of my all-time favorite hikes and definitely my favorite trail in Arkansas. Ozone to Woolum is magnificent and IMHO the best part of the trail, I love how remote it feels on the eastern end. I almost did a thru-hike in February but the arctic air moved in and by the time it warmed u I didn't have the time but I'm sure I'll be doing it again in the near future. Thanks again for checking ou the video and I hope your hike from Ozone to Woolum is amazing, take care!!!
Thank you! This area has some great trails but nothing like where you are! I have been doing smaller trips since I joined a band last year. I had to trade being on trail for being on stage but it's been great!! I am actually in the process of starting a second music project so my time is getting thin. I will never stop hiking and hope to do the Colorado Trail again, or at least the collegiate loop. It's great to hear from you!!!!
I think this was the year I ran into you on the hike. You were headed in to Breck/Frisco. I was headed the opposite way . I couldn’t believe I saw you as I watched all of your AZT vids and it was instrumental in my confidence to hike the trail! Hey, I think you said you were going to send me your music. By the way, I did the PCT…. Whew. Took me forever to recover. Keep up the vids and MUSIC. SherpaSheryl
Hi Sheryl!! This was the hike where I met you on that hellacious ridge climbing up from Copper Mountain. I still can't believe you watched the AZT vids, that was a long series. I am jealous that were able to do the PCT and to be honest I'm not sure I could do it one shot, I think I would have to break that up into smaller hikes. I did send you the music and I never heard anything back so I was always wondering of you got it. I sent it to a Comcast email account so maybe I don't have the right address. I don't want to post it here but I'd be happy to re-send it to you. It's so great to hear from you and I hope I can get back out there soon. I'm planning a trip out there this Summer with my son and I want to take him on a small hike that's not too strenuous. I would love it if you had any suggestions on a good trail. Hope to hear from you soon, take care!!!
Man, it was great to run into you out there! Couldn’t ask for a more ideal place to have met you in person. Glad to see ya getting out all the time. Keep it up!
That was an awesome place to run into each other! I hiked through there the very next year and I was thinking about it then too. I'm trying to keep on the move since I'm getting older, I'm afraid to stop!!! I know it says Anderson Adventures, but I already had this stuff edited from 2021 and wasn't able to put your new name in there. Take care man and Hike on!!!
Thanks man!! I started videoing my hikes in 2014 and some of the first stuff is pretty awful. Hopefully I've gotten better after 10 years. I started making them just for my own memories and then the channel kept growing so it's been great. Thanks for checking it out!!!
I just got back from camping and day hiking near berryman in Missouri and came across that little American flag on the trail marker and remembered it from your ozark trail series I enjoyed watching some time ago. Reminded me to find your channel and subscribe!
Man, that is so awesome!! I remember that spot very well. It was one of the few nights I had a signal and one of the only nights that it didn't get ice all over my tent. It was one of the best spots on my entire hike. Thanks for checking out those videos and for subbing, I appreciate it!!!
Thanks Ron!!! It was a blast and we had some of the best weather for February that I've ever hiked in. Buddy's turning into a great trail dog, very protective while in camp. That picture at the end with the holes I the side of the tent are from him trying to run after something in the middle of the night. Already replaced the tent with a much cheaper knock off in case he has another accident and tries to run through the side lol....
I just returned from the OT. Hiked the Old Military, Boardstand and OT loop clockwise. Nice forested valleys, plenty of water lead to the grand finale link up with the Ouachita Trail and a steep climb to Deadmans Gap. Felt like home once I hit the It was great to be out there again. I am preparing to go finish the trail from Hwy 7 to Pinnacle Mtn before summer heat sets in. Your videos always capture the raw beauty and tranquility of the area. I spent 2 nights up there. Thank you so much for continuing to post videos even after thru hiking the whole trail! Rock on!
That is such a great hike! That's the first hike I took my dog Buddy on and we had a blast except for a lot of controlled burns happening on the second day but it was still really awesome. I always feel at home on the Arkansas/Oklahoma trails as well. Hwy 7 to Pinnacle should be a great hike, I think that end of the trail is easier than the Western end but it's still not easy. Thanks for checking out the videos and I hope your hike is amazing!!! Take Care!!!
That stretch of trail between Foran Gap and Brushy Creek is almost completely dry. If not for the trail angels and their trail magic, our group of three would have been in trouble. We stayed at Foran Gap shelter. If I were to do it again, I think I would have hiked back down to Cedar Creek three tenths of a mile below Foran Gap shelter in the opposite direction to camel up and fill up completely because you just can't count on water until you get to Brushy Creek. It's a shame they no longer allow overnight camping at the Brushy Creek day use area. It's such a pretty spot. I wish they had a few more blazes on that road/trail going up to Suck Mountain shelter. I experienced anxiety hustling it up that slope because I was constantly worried that I was missing a turn because the blazes are so few and far apart.
I remember that section of the trail being very dry. In 2017, my brother and I hiked through and had to cache water around 18 miles from the trail near a road to ensure we had enough. It worked out great. This time around, finding water at Turner Gap was a bonus, but I was determined to find some even if it meant walking a mile down the creek. Brushy Creek is a flood zone, so it's not safe to camp there unless you're certain there won't be any rain. I've been up to suck mountain several times, so I was certain I was going the right way but if I'd never been there, I would be wondering if I were still on the trail. Thanks, for checking it out!!!
It was a blast! I'm still hoping you're going to be able to do some hikes like that again it would be a lot of fun to get back on a trail together. You can probably tell the one song in the middle was written while hiking since it's all about coming home from a hike. Buddy is doing great on the trail but I don't know if you noticed the pics at the end were I showed the holes in the side of my tent, he tried to run after something in the middle of the night and tore up that side. I've already purchased another cheap 3-man tent for the next timeI take him. I had that tent for 10 years, damn!!!
It was incredible to be hiking n the early morning with no coat or gloves, just awesome!! We really lucked out with the weather and I was surprised we didn't pass one other hiker on the entire trip. Buddy is adapting great to the trail except he tried to run after something in the middle of the night and put several holes in the side of the tent, oh well!! Thanks for checking it out!!!
I did join a band and in fact, I have a show tonight! I probably won't be able to get away and do the multi-week hikes but I can still zip up to Arkansas and hit those trails for a few days here and there. Thanks for checking it out, it's good to hear from you!!!
Thanks for watching those videos, I know they're a little old but what an amazing state. I'm lucky I got to do it twice. If I can live long enough I hope to hike it again someday.
I forget how great that hike was and how good your videos are! They are vastly underrated in my opinion. For anyone thinking about hiking the CT I hope they watch these videos and consider doing the NOBO. Thanks for the memories Paul!
It's hard to believe that we even got to do that hike, what an amazing experience we had. Watching it back can't believe all the stuff we went through in the first few days. I will always look back on this as one the best hikes ever and I'm glad you were able to do the whole trail in one shot. I know I'm crazy but I really think I would go back and do it again. I also think 500 miles is the perfect distance for a hike. You get out on trail for 7 weeks and about the time you start getting worn down it's over. P.S. I hope you're doing well!!!!
Sometimes you forget to notice how beautiful everything is when you’re in the middle of a long hike. It’s such hard work that, unfortunately, you can get caught up into the effort of moving forward that you miss a bunch of shit. And it’s so long that there’s no way you could remember every nuance of the landscape. And while it should never be only about busting out the miles, there is a quota that’s required every day on a thru hike. That’s why I love hiking videos; you get a chance to go back and get a closer look at what you were moving through.
So true!! I watch these videos back sometimes and I can't believe I was even standing in some of those amazing places. Even though I've done this trail twice now when I watch it I have a strong urge to go back and do it again. I love Colorado and that trail is magic!!!!
Did you ever solve your "squeaky pack" issue? By the way, there is no "over filming" in your videos. Some are longer than others, that's all. Thanks for sharing this hike.
I did solve the squeaky pack problem. I bought some lube for the Zippers and I rubbed some on the points where the pack connects to the straps and it stopped it. I'm glad to hear there is no over filming, sometimes I feel like I need to calm down and stop trying to get everything on camera. I appreciate you checking it out!!!
Those concrete bunkers are the remnants of Camp Hale. Constructed in 1942 to house the 10th Mountain Division, I believe it's now part of the Continental Divide National Monument.
That is true!! I looked them up after I passed through there and read all about it. It was actually very interesting and a really cool place to hike through.
Thanks man! My friend at the studio I used to go to took it out of another song somebody had recorded there and it fit in perfectly with what I was playing.
Great video. You did a great job putting it together. Looks like this will be an epic hike. I've put in some miles in CO. a few trips. It never fails to satisfy.
Thank you! It was an amazing hike. Colorado is so beautiful that it's easy to film. I loved it so much I did it again the following year and would still like to go back and do it a third time.
Thanks!! I'm having a great time being back on the music scene and have played a few shows o n the road. I miss the long hikes but I'm sure I'll be able to get back out for another great hike in the near future. Thanks for checking it out!!!
Yes, I hiked this in the Summer of 2021 but I never released it on RU-vid. I had it on an alternative platform, but I recently stumbled across the fully edited videos on an old hard drive, so I decided to throw them on YT since many people don't use Rumble. Thanks for checking it out, it was an awesome hike!!!
Lol, I'm not sure I told you but yeah it blew pretty far away when I wasn't looking. I think the Garmin being attached is the only reason it didn't disappear into the storm that night.
Thank you! I have been lucky with the altitude on both of my hikes on the CT. I did spend 3 days in Durango before I started hiking in the hope that would acclimate better to the environment and it seemed to work.
Last year I saw Midwest Backpacker’s video where he passed you. Also, my trip from Hwy7 to 298 on the OT was awesome. It felt uphill the whole way. Lol
That was cool running into him out there! Overall, I passed 5 people who recognized me from this channel. It was kind of mind-blowing since I was so far away from my normal hiking trails. Lol, I understand perfectly, I think most of that stretch from 7 to 298 is uphill!!! When we hiked it we noticed how the following day was so much easier. I just got back from a Foran Gap to Hwy 27 hike but haven't edited the video yet.
@@somewhereonthetrail sweet. Foran Gap to 27 is slow when storms are predicted. I was heading west and stuck on Suck Mt for two days once because the Big Brushy and Fiddler Creek area was swamped. I say stuck, Lori saved me and took me to MountainHarbor Inn and back….
@@jasonjudd4 I'll bet it is! That was a rough start to a hike. once you get back there it's all rocky and no flat spots for miles. We ended up going over 8 miles on the first day until we finally found a small trailside campsite. Definitely some dry and rugged terrain thoruh there. That's awesome that Lori was able to help you, she really is a lifesaver and huge help to fellow hikers!!!
I love Leadville! I stayed there when I climbed Mt. Elbert and I also stayed there on my failed attempt to climb Mt. Massive. What a fun little town with some great dispensaries!!!
Thanks for watching it again!! It's such a scenic trail that after doing it twice I think I would do it a third time it's just so beautiful!!! Things are going very well! I hope everything is going great for you too!!!!
I know you can't please everyone, but I really like the videos without the background music. I would rather hear what nature sounds like. Either way,,love the videos, especially this series. I live near the OT,,,,Thank you!
Thanks for checking ou tthe videos!! You're right there are a few people who commented that I needed music in this video but sometimes it is nice to just watch a video without a bunch of music thrown in. I've been trying to keep it to a minimum in my last few videos. Take Care!!!!
In Nov-Dec of 2023, I did the western half to Hwy 27. My first ever attempted thru hike. I decided I prefer shorter trips. I can do big miles, but doing it for multiple days in a row really destroyed my body. But I'm still chipping away to finish the whole trail. I did this same section a couple of weeks ago (9th-11th Feb 2024). It rained on me for two of the days, but the temps weren't too cold. It was a fun trip and a good stretch of trail. I didn't see another soul on the trail that whole weekend. 8:39 Big Bear shelter is probably my #1 favorite shelter on the trail. I've stayed there twice now. It's so pretty in that valley. 11:20 Oh man. I wish you had filmed the spring at Blue Mountain shelter. I stopped there for lunch when I passed through and I wanted to go down to the spring just to see what it looked like, but it was raining and I didn't feel like taking the extra time. 17:00 Irons Fork is a great spot for a lunch break. 19:10 You were having trouble finding a flat spot to camp after Potter shelter. I just picked up a hammock setup. I've been practicing using it. Spent my first night in it last weekend. I'm hoping to finish the last stretch of the OT with it, from Hwy 7 to Pinnacle using it. I think a hammock setup will open a lot more possibilities for camping on most of the trails in Arkansas.
I understand! I used to think I wanted to do a PCT thru-hike until I spent 8 weeks in my tent in Arizona. I decided that the perfect hike for me is about 500 miles. I start to get tired of the whole tent thing after about 5 weeks of hiking. I've really enjoyed doing these smaller hikes lately because there is no pressure to maintain your feet and well-being for hundreds of miles. I do love the Big Bear shelter but honestly I'm not a big fan of staying in them, I prefer tent camping much more. Good luck with the hammock camping, I know a lot of people love it but to me it seems like way too much fiddling around with ropes and tying things off. plus, you need a rainfly and underquilt. I prefer the simple set-up of a tent and I also enjoy the challenge of finding cool stealth spots where hopefully nobody has ever camped. I've been hiking up there for 10 years now and have always managed to find great spots even when I have to walk a little extra sometimes. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting, Take Care!!!
Honestly I'm not sure why that is opened up like that. I've never seen any power lines running through there in all the years I've hiked there. Maybe some underground gas line or something? Anyway, I appreciate you checking out the video!!!
Thnaks for checking it out and commenting!!! We did have some really great weather, especially for January. It was in the low 60s during the day and the mid to low 30s at night, absolutely perfect!!! Take Care!!
Great to see you’ll back on the Ouachita trail again. Hey a question about Buddy we had talk about him before, on his first trip up at Ouachita is Buddy a short hair I thought it looked like he was but wasn’t sure. He sure is mark like my Bella but she’s a long hair. Buddy is 3:04 starting to look like your last trail dog and sorry I couldn’t think of his name now. Great to hear and see you some where on the trail again. Thanks Wayne
I'm not really sure exactly what kind of shepard Buddy is, I got him from some girls who didn't want him anymore when he was almost a year old. He's turning out to be a great hiking dog but he gets upset when we see other people which is something we still have to work on. My other dog was a chocolate lab, his name is Jackie and he is still doing great. He's over 10 years old now and 100% blind but he still has a great life here with his other dog friends. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting, Take care!!!
