Teach, reviews, playthroughs and tutorials for the best board games
Hello and welcome to EZBoardGames! This channel is all about tutorials for board games, how to play, board game reviews, opinions, full playthroughs (player vs. player, solo and co-op). After being quite some time into this hobby, I feel like I could bring a different angle to the board game teaching process. So I created this channel to teach others how to play in the way that I wished someone would have taught me. Feel free to leave any kind of question in the comment section or even by mail and I'll do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible.
EZBoardGames- your channel for learning board games.
I missed in the video that you talked about the main difference between the 2 games and why Voidfall has caught the attention of many players, it has game modes to play cooperatively and alone. I don't know of any 4X or 3X that can be played in coop, nor do I know of many. In fact, they say that Voidfall's combat has been designed for cooperative mode.
Not sure I understood the entire comment, but I'll try to answer 😊 Regarding 4X games that can be played coop you got Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor, March of thr Ants, Space Empires 4X can be played 2vs2 etc.. so Voidfall is not the first 3.5X or 4X game that does it. I think that these games have even more differences than what I talked about in the video. I think that Voidfall got more attention initially because it's from Mindclash. Fractal comes from a lesser known publisher with a lower budget. I think that in general, the euro aspect of Voidfall appeals to a bigger crowd than what Fractal is representing.
Yeeeeesss Runewars. I was just thinking, did he also did a RW video? He did;) Yeah❤❤❤ It is my favourite game ecen though TI is the better game It is pure magic
Hahahaha let me know if there are other games you'd like to see on the channel! 😍 I like Runewars very much and it really surprised me. Banners of War is a cool expansion but in my opinion not that much mandatory.. what do you think?
@@ezbgames we got the revised Edition and Banners shortly after that, and that is all probably 10y ago, so I dont how it is without expansion. I like the new units, cant think to play without. Also the lost City thing is cool. But we always play with the "old cities" the new ones are too strong and having one at the doorstep in the beginning is just lucky. Both starcraft and runewars we played a lot in our group(s) - would still if not TI4 would be such an exceptional game;) If you want to look at the undaunted series;) I just got 2200 calisto, very cool game. And yes a playzhrough of TI4 would be an idea. For me it is the crown of All the heavy concept banger games;))) Cheers to Paris
I'm really happy you get to play these games.. For me the problem with TI4 is the play time. I find it very hard to potentially invest 10-13 hours for a single game. And unless you have a REALLY dedicated group for this, it will be a game that will come out once a year. For me it's not enough in order to keep a game like this in my collection. Undaunted is intriguing for me, but I still didn't pull the trigger on that one.. I have so many projects I'm currently working on, and since I'm moving to Switzerland soon I have even less time. This is the only reason why I didn't upload a video for the past 2 weeks (which personally hurts me because I love making videos 😊) Also, Essen is next week and I will receive Mindclash new game to do some content as well
@@ezbgames nice, where in Switzerland;) We have in Vienna a TI4 group with around 60 people and organize a montly game. Of course I cant play that often. It can be long yes, but if you have a table where everybody know-know the rules, well we played 8P games in 8 hours. But it is long, yes. It gives social interaction as no other game I know. Speaking of time - we have luxury, having so many great games, so one just have to decide what game to play. I agree, there is NO game out there one HAS to play. And on the other hand, because TI4 plays such an important part in our groups very good other games dont get time.
Oh man.. hahaha super happy that you liked it as well! I really like the format of explanatory playthrough. It makes games that seem complicated- not complicated at all 😊😊
Great Video, thank you sooo much. We played it Tons of times when it came out. What Was it? 2007/08/09??? I hope we will bring it on the table soon, it was fun! (Our montly TI4 need a breather;))
This video was exactly what I needed after reading the rulebook. Thanks to your examples I could visualize most of the scenarios I had trouble grasping in the rules. Much praise!
I bought the game in German today. This video is extremely helpful and extremely well explained. Thanks for all the effort. It is also very easy to understand for someone who is not a native English speaker. Shai-Hulud !!!!
Nice Video. Here's my thoughts on the top hidden movement games from BGG... 1) I'm totally a fan of Letters From Whitechapel. One thing that changes the game for many is who you play it with. When you play with people who are into the theme and as friends like the cat and mouse and squirrel like planning and evasion it's a total gem. 2) Others like Whitehall Mysteries, and I get it, but the depth of Whitechapel is where I prefer. Whitehall is shorter and simpler and will be similar, but I prefer when playing with my competitive friends the Whitechapel. - Scotland Yard was more the original these two were made from. Older, had the number moving system. etc. - Nuns on the Run is a more lighthearted twist where the many are hiding from the one...or two. Nuns trying to get their guilty pleasures in a convent - Escape from Aliens in Outer Space is good as all players are hidden from all others. - Beast reminds me of Fury of Dracula, but with different themes and choices...but the movement needs a "battle" afterwords - Mind Management is a surrealist twist...playing with your mind a bit with the theme...on purpose of course - Spector Ops is a great sci-fi version of a hidden movement game...I still prefer the whitechapel/whitehall games...I can't explain why...I think it's theme and the game group I play with. - Jaws is excellent and carries the movie theme - Fugitive is excellent, but smaller, and fast for two players and has a tiny box...can go anywhere - And Stop Thief is more a family weight game using an app and you're trying to catch the escaping thieves... + I'm wishing to someday play Terrorscape + I'm also hoping to play Sniper Elite soon, looks great - I don't feel the same hidden movement thrill in Star Wars Rebellion though it's a good game...
Whoooaaaa!! Thank you so much for this detailed comment 🤩 You've obviously played a lot more hidden movement games that I have. I didn't see that you've mentioned City of the Great Machine. Have you tried it? Also, Terrorscape is a cool game that replaced Letters from Whitechapel for me.
I've not played either Terrorscape nor the City of Great Machine. Terrorscape is a prohibitive cost, and never found the time to play the Great Machine...nor anyone with a copy. As I'm currently trying to downsize the collection and save money, I'm likely not to be able to play either soon. I doubt the company that made Terrorscape would just send a copy to me without a channel/review publication platform...But I am intrigued more on that one...
Looks wise it's way better than the 1st edition no doubt.. the game itself has been twitched a bit to be more streamlined and fluent which is a plus.. Yeah, Discord links are only valid for a week every time 😅 But hey! At least now I can post a new link 🤩 discord.gg/FStgUUYC
Thanks for this review! I picked up the base on nerdzday, I haven’t pulled the trigger on any expansions, I figured I should play first but I saw that they have their preorder going on for the new expansion.. thought about picking up the expansions and the kickstarter content.. but man the 50 bucks for that expansion, 50 for the kickstarter content, and another 60 for smugglers, I could pick up spacing guild for 40.. and then tack on taxes and shipping…goodness gracious that’s a lot not sure I’m willing to fork over that much for the extra content yet or if the extra content is worth that cost
First if all, the pleasure is all mine 😊 Regarding the expansions... look, the base game is good without a doubt. The expansions make it, as I said in the video, more whole and it feels better. I got everything for the game for about 200€ maybe even less. And probably I wouldn't pay more for it. I will absolutely NOT take the new expansion. 50€ plus shipping plus taxes is just too much for an expansion. I suggest to follow 2nd hand websites and be patient. What I would recommend, if you really like the game, is actually to take a look at War of the Ring 2nd edition. Because if you like Dune and you're willing to do the extra miles for a bit more rules, you'd love it. Not sure if you saw, but I have a video comparing between the two games so feel free to check it out 😊
@@ezbgames I am aware, just was wondering if there is any sense to attack two units, having one "skirmish" unit :) I am aware that it's how to play ;) Very nice to be honest :) Any plans for BroodWar expansion? Or you haven't acquired it yet?
I'm really glad you found the video useful 🤩😊 I should definitely do a video for the expansion (I have the French version that I got for 80€) But I'm not sure when yet because I have so many projects to do 😅 My next video will probably be for Heroes of Land Air and Sea
@@ezbgames whoa HoLAaS is quite big, looked really nice in the campaign, but price was humongous. It appealed to me with Warcraftish vibe. Good luck with How to play video! Will come from time to time looking for BroodWar rules explanation ;)
Haha you got it! I'll make sn extra effort 😊 And yeah I agree the price was too much. I got mine for 180€ second hand, basically everything up untill the last campaign
Well, for the first edition, the material is very basic. So it might not be the most beautiful game. The 2nd edition does try to address this issue. I would also say that this game is probably not the best at 2 players. Besides that, for a light weight game it's pretty great 😊
I picked up a used copy of the revised edition recently and I am finally getting it to the table tomorrow! Watched this three times through already to make sure I can teach it effectively. Thanks for the great information!
The pleasure is all mine my friend and I'll be happy if you tell me how did it go after you play :) Feel free to contact me via Discord if you have any kind of question, I'll be available to answer questions 😊 Enjoy!
@@ezbgames So we got through a game! We had three players and the game ended in year 5 with a score of 6 - 3 - 2. I really like a lot of the systems the game has (resource dials, order cards, different army composition) but there are a few things that just feel like bloat to me. I cycled through 3 objective cards and none of them seemed remotely possible. I didn't look at the odds in the fate deck beforehand, but looked through afterwards and I think that will make a big difference in the decisions I make next time (I didn't realize there are only 4 cards that make allying with neutral units possible). We also had no idea what we were doing when setting up the map so 2 players got blocked in by neutral units and the third player (who ended up winning) had free reign to claim 2 cities and take off to a very fast start. Overall, I think it is pretty good and I am interested in getting it to the table again with the same people. Also, the teach went very smooth since I had such a great reference video to watch beforehand!
First of all, thank you for reporting back and also for the kind words. I'm glad my video was useful. This game definitely 'starts' from the second go.. and your 3rd time will be a blast on all accounts. That's a guarantee. In the expansion, there are a few ways to modify the game and I think it adds a lot to it. You don't like this? You have this. You want more of that? You got it.. The base game is good on itself of course, don't get me wrong.. but FFG (as always) are doing things good only AFTER the game is already out
It's a very good idea, but I don't have a copy of the game. The prototype was sent and I'm not sure if and when I will have the final deluxe copy of the new edition.
crap I just managed to chase down the last expansion and now they release a revised edition that looks so much better. What are your thoughts so far? Fun fact, found your channel when searching for more info on march of the ants. It's come full circle !
Hard for me to say because it was only an advanced prototype, but it does look better.. I think that if I didn't have anything I would go for the new edition. If you already have the first edition, not entirely sure you NEED it. But again, it does look better, with improved components and some rule modifications
I bookmarked this video as I'm currently at work and they sadly don't pay me to watch amazing RU-vid vids. Yay! I look forward to finding out about this game :D
I'm very surprised Agricola isn't on this list. It doesn't take long to setup, perfect weight, and has lot's of great decisions. I do need to try your other Uwe picks
@IndianaGeologist not saying it's not a good game of course.. I just felt maybe that will be something a bit obvious and wanted also to show some other titles 😊
Yeah, there are quite a lot of comments on the matter 😊 Not sure what does it change really, because the last board game is based on the PC game. But yes. You are absolutely right and it all started with a board game 😊👌🏽
The copy of Starcraft is very enticing, but I think I am done with games that plays in more than 2h. No way José! Congratulations on moving in Switzerland and good luck finding something big enough in Geneva to store your games... I lived there for a while and I can recommend the Bains des Pâquis and Parfum de Beyrouth for a Lebanese meal! If it gets too boring Lausanne is not far away 🙂
Hahahaha thank you my friend! I'll keep those tips 🤩 Trying to get a normal size apartment but yeah, prices are high. Love those big games!! They're my favorite 😍
Looks like a fun game and it's in a theme I love... space. But the mechanics doesn't talk to me and the graphics not my cup of tea. I'm very picky now before buying new games. Love your vids my man 😁 what's next on the menu my friend?
Oh it's totally understandable.. not everything is for everyone 😊 Thank you so much for the kind words ❤️ I have now Heroes of Land Air and Sea on my table so maybe till next week I'll be able to put something on the screen. Also, I'm now learning Space Empires 4X and absolutely loving it!! I'll do a video for it soon as well 🤩 What's on your table now? Which game would you like me to cover?
@@ezbgames last weekend I played Xia with one of my friend and we had a blast. Like I said I checked your collection on bgg and saw Empires of the Void 2, it's one I own but didn't read the rulebook yet so it's one i'd like to see here. I have 68 base boardgames that I pretty much all love so to be able to bring them all on the table, I,m pretty much picky with the new ones I buy. The mechanics, theme and experience that it brings to the table need to be new or different with the ones I already own and 2nd... it's not cheap so I choose wisely where I spend my money.I'm the kind of guy that like's to buy things on Etsy to ''upgrade'' my favorite boardgames so the money I spend can rack up pretty quickly. I don't know for you but the more games you have the more overwhelmed you feel when choosing what to bring to the table or one to choose when introducing someone to the hobby.
Yeah you're totally right, the more games- the less sure you are for what to table. I totally relate to that. Damn.. Empires of the Void II is something that I promised a long time ago to do a video and totally forgot. It's good that you're reminding me! Xia is great but it has been a long time ago since I've played it. So since the space them is for you- what did you think of Voidfall?
Maan, i swear, i just sat down with my dog and thought to myself "I wonder if Asaf i still making that video about Ultramassive"? Not 5 minutes later, this pops up ha! That's awesome! You played a physical copy of it before i did heh.
I found your channel because of Forbidden Stars, just wanted to see if someone recently cares about this great game! Continuing with more FFG Classics just puts Legendary status over your videos, at least for me! :) Corey's games just have something unique! And hearing from another video that you planning doing MEQ coverage made me overexcited, haha. It is amazing game and has very sentimental meaning for me and my wife. I had an offer to give it away for Forsthaven+Sleeping Gods+Pandemic Warcraft+another one and I... Refused lol... Even if I can sell them and buy it again, lol. That much we love it!
Ohhh I'm so happy to hear you got to my channel through Forbidden Stars, even though I personally prefer Starcraft (I did a comparison video a while ago..) I will definitely cover MEQ either this month or hopefully in October after Essen Spiel. I'm glad you didn't trade this game.. and I'm a true believer in sentimental value ❤️ I hope I can continue create content that you'll like and if there's a game you'd like me to cover don't hesitate to contact me via RU-vid or email and I will do my best to get a copy
EZboardgames is definetly one of my favorite boardgame channels here on RU-vid! I like the relaxed atmosphere, the controversial decisions you've made (giving away Blood Rage - OMG) and the well structured and easy to follow reviews and how to plays. I really love it. I've played StarCraft on PC a lot and heard so much good things about the boardgame. Really hoping to get my fingers on it 🙂
I think this is the first culling video which explains the thought process behind each decision. Personally, I think that is great as short explanations such as i don't like it as much never cover the plus and minuses of a game and why that game left a collection. Nice video good sir, you just earned a subscription and a like :).
Thank you so much for watching, commenting and of of course subscribing. I appreciate it very much. I'm also glad you like the concept of this monthly video as it is very important for me to say how come a game left the collection (like a tiny review). Thank you again and welcome to the EZ family 😊😊
Interesting list, thank you :D As you said most are underrated because they are simply not available at all ... StarCraft is a grail game of mine ^^ Reasons are small publishers, small print runs and no second edition or the loss of IPs as in the case of StarCraft :P sigh - maybe some day we will see reprints or similar games without IPs surface. Happy gaming!
Hey! 😊 Thanks for commenting.. It's true for the OOP games, but some of these games are still out there and need some love 😉 Not sure if you saw my last video (and I apologize if you have) but soon, when I get to 2k subs, I'll do a free giveaway of Starcraft. Stay tuned 😎
@@ezbgames Thank you for the quick reply :D Just watched your announcement. Hope the 2000 will be reached (you got me :) ) Just wonder if I will enter :D ... I played StarCraft with a friend shortly after it came out and we had rounds of 2-4 players which were a lot of fun at the time. When I got back into boardgaming years later he had already sold it :D Loved the Zerglings :P I am quite ok if it stays a grail game and someone else gets it to enjoy. Not sure how it would fare measured up to more modern games like Voidfall and upcoming Andromeda's Edge. At the time there was really nothing to compare it to and memories are golden :D Still it would be great to get a retheme ... Also love your shelf in the background :D
Woohhhaaa you named Voidfsll which is in my top 5 and Andromeda's Edge is something that I'm really looking forward to. Starcraft, in my opinion, still holds up and gives a competition to more modern board games. I prefer it over Forbidden Stars. Thank you for subscribing, I really appreciate it. The shelf behind me... haha yeah it's my pride and joy. I really love board games- it completely changed my life
@@ezbgames Enjoyed the content :) Board games are such a marvel :D Would not like to live without them anymore ^^ Have to admit I never played Forbidden Stars ... ^^ Currently we are into Slay the Spire with some intermissions of Forest Shuffle (absolutely addictive with the Alpine expansion^^) and the occasional Frosthaven scenario - on the upcoming cue are still Keep the Heroes out, Distilled, Agemonia and Oathsworn :P Also I just got Tamashii, The Warp and Cthulhu Wars :P oh guilty pleasures ...
Ohhh wow!!! Some heavy titles.. The Warp is a very interesting game. Did a how-to-play not a long time ago. Love this passion for board games. It literally fuels my day
I figured it might get people a bit excited! I wanted to do something unique.. 2k subs is right around the corner and I'll do a video talking also about the give away. Best of luck my friend 😊😊
I also picked up Dead Reckoning (just base) in a recent sale, look forward to your thoughts on that one and Edge of Darkness when you get to that! My favorite channel is Room and Board, he really helps add some anti-fomo to crowdfunding. I'm usually a grape guy, but in this case of course I love apples! 😆
I'm really eager to check out Dead Reckoning and report back 😊 Never heard of this channel but I'm adding it now to the list and I'll check his videos. Sounds interesting! Hahaha I'm glad I have the opportunity to give away Starcraft 😊😊
I really like what you’re doing here with this series, but my absolute favorite channel has to be Foster The Meeple! Jeff and Jamie are hilarious, entertaining, inclusive, and so much more. Shout out to their Kickstarter that’s running right now for anyone who wants to show them some support!
I really like the Boardgameco channel. It helps me navigate the crowdfunding space. I played so much StarCraft in my younger years. Being more of a boardgame than videogamer that game is my Holy grail game that I really want in my collection.
BoardgameCo. is an awesome channel and I like Alex a lot!! I love the Starcraft IP and it's one of the reasons I'm very happy for this give-away. 2,000 subs is hopefully around the corner 😊😊
Favourite Channels are BoardGameCo and TheDiceTower :) and of course I like Apples 😊 And great video as always brother, I Looooove Mind MGMT and also like Cthulhu Wars. I hope you'll find any fun in Steamwatchers other than the production cause I haven't 😅
BoardgameCo is an awesome channel indeed!! 😍😍 I'm starting to think I did a mistake with Steam Watchers lol But for that price I had to give it a go. I'll keep you updated
Favourite channel - SUSD, it’s gotta be. I’ve bought more games based on their recommendations than any other channel, and enjoyed almost every single one. StarCraft is a grail game for me. So hard to find, especially the expansion. Thanks for the giveaway!
They are simply awesome and their reviews are not only fun to watch, but also professional in a way that you know they played this game a lot before reviewing it.. When we hit the 2k subs I'll make a video saying how to get into the give away 😊
