He knows what he's talking about! I became histamine intolerant, with constant itching & almost drowning in mucus from my sinuses...just hell. It all began with allergies for me, but thanks to those like him on YT, I learned about it, cleaned up my gut, changed my diet. From there, learned about autoimmune disease & how thats treated, with great improvement in my hypothyroid & prediabetic conditions.
Struggled with skin rashes that go systemic and mystery allergy symptoms, and found I had one DAO genetic SNP. I've reduce various things out of my diet and take DAO supplement if I know I will have a higher histamine meal. An allergist could not confirm HIT, perhaps because I was doing okay managing it. I still have transient symptoms. The worst thing is that I enjoy all the higher histamine foods. I am following a lower carb diet. I tend to eat brassicae veg. Pea shoots are supposed to provide DAO.
I've been all over the place trying to recover from a trip to Mexico over a year ago. I highly recommend anyone with these symptoms Dr. Ruscio laid out here, check out thiamine deficiency. I started taking methylated thiamine yesterday, and my SIBO symptoms are already a lot better one day later. High dose of B1, B12 and Complex B vitamins in support, Magnesium, Vitamin D with K and Zinc, high dose of Vitamin C to help heal the gut. Might not be everybody's issue, but I would start with looking into thiamine deficiency and how our lifestyle depletes it.
video request: diet options and advice for people stuck on elimination diet with only some improvement, but are on loooooong waitlists (I was rejected for 1.5 yrs from even being added to a waitlist, now finally accepted in May but will not have first appointment for another 2 to 4 months since they still have not cleared the covid backlog) to get professional medical help, with no money to hire you for help in the meantime. How can we add reactive foods back in without suffering consequences? for SIBO, isn’t that like arming the enemy? for H.I. doesn't that overflow the histamine bucket that is already so hard to manage already? and make it harder to heal SIBO? I keep hearing that the diet shouldn't last long, which made sense back when I thought the diet was supposed to be the cure... but instead, it is only partial relief, and if I mess up, then I suffer greatly. I do fear that foods once safe are starting to become a problem, but I have nothing left to replace them with. There are also new signs of nutritional deficiencies and hormone disruption that add to the worries. So what can people like me do in the meantime?
Hi! I'm from Brazil. Here the doctors don't know about SIFO. I went tô 30 gastroenterologists, but none of them could help me! Finally I found a gastroenterologist that knows something aborto SIFO, but it's very limited. So I found you and you're helping me so much! SIFO is very difficult to treat! I took Fluconazol, but it wasn't effective! But with your vídeos I will reach the victory! I have abdominal pain for 3 years. Fungi sucks!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Please, teach the brazilian doctors about SIFO !
Hi doc. I am a teacher and I felt I was learning from another teacher. It was very well explained and you gave hope when you said that we can again start tolerating the Fodmap foods in the course of time. I just subscribed to yr channel since I have been suffering from IBS for many years Thanks for your valuable advice
Low/no carbs/carnivore diet can even be dangerous for some people who can't process all this protein due to gastrointestinal issues, can't it.? Also, can a person be intolerant to all antifungal herbs? I've tried about a dozen & they all made feel much worse, die off lasted for weeks & weeks. Can it be because of gastritis, gerd & all bladder issues? Any advice here please ?
Very helpful talk. Thank you.❤ I was reading up on different microbiome to ferment I found this report interesting www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9135416/#:~:text=Despite%20a%20short%20history%20since,a%20next%2Dgeneration%20biotherapeutic%20agent Akkermansia was shown to be reduced in children with ASD, but i saw in the comments someone suggested high in Parkinson’s or MS. Our gut healty was such a natural complex but functional diversity now messed up by environmental and toxic issues. We have so much to understand and learn. I found your talk well balanced and very helpful.
I am fighting again candida after 6 months of hormonal treatment (HRT). I eventually understood what was happening and I felt better after stopping HRT.
I found that it was almost impossible for me to reduce the food for the candida (carbs) if I did not take antifungal plants at the same time. Candida is so strong to push you to eat what he wants.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Will pass that along to the team but it might be a bit too specific to warrant its own video. We’re always happy to help you in our virtual clinic, if you’re looking for care: drruscio.com/virtual-clinic/
hello Dr. Ruscio. thank you for this video on candida. Good learnings for me. question: I read in the book by Dr. William Davies, Super gut, that a low fodmap diet is nothing more than a symptoms reducing manoeuvre that does not correct the underlying course of sibo or restore a healthy microbiome or remove a potent source of inflammation. I challenge this view of Dr. Davies based on what you conveyed in your videos on the low fodmap diet. you mentioned that if a person experienced symptoms relief on a low fodmap diet this could be indicative of correcting dysbiosis and restoration of a healthy gut microbiome or at least contribute to it. did I understand this correctly? my view is that the low fodmap diet can contribute to correcting dysbiosis and help restore a healthy gut microbiome. I welcome your expert view. kind regards miss Reimara
Yes, the idea is that it can correct dysbiosis by feeding beneficial bacteria. It’s not meant to be followed forever. Then there’s the added benefit of managing symptoms in the meantime
@DrRuscioDC thank you for your prompt response to my question. I do hope that the fodmap diet, all 3 phases, can help restore a healthy gut microbiome. That adds strenghts to the efficacy of this brilliant diet. Kind regards miss Reimara
Thank you for this: When you say as low carbs as you can go - are blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries OK to consume? As well as citrus fruits like grapefruit, kiwi, lemons limes and green apples? These all tend to be given the go ahead in most candida diets.
They can be. It’s really more about portions/amounts. Low carb isn’t no carb, so there’s still some room, and some of the fruits you mentioned are relatively low carb as far as fruits go.
Thanks for these helpful recommendations: selenium and 600 myo-inositol 1-8,000 IU vitamin D3, probiotics, lowering stress, adequate calories and carbs. Going dairy free and grain / gluten free helped my thyroid tremendously!
Back on my GI health maintenance plan: Started taking probiotics again this month, plus I'm mindfully controlling my cortisol levels, no muscle straining exercise, plus I'm on my regular supplements. I can cautiously eat bread/gluten again! 🎉 There is no negative impact on my eyes 🎉 . It should rule out what little impact candida has on my body, too. I'm on a garlic supplement, too, as part of my extended winter anti-inflammatory plan.

Given the host of issues you mentioned, it’s hard to make a specific video recommendation, and I can’t provide medical advice over social media. But we have lots of free resources like this video for addressing and managing various health problems, so please let me know if you’re looking for something specific. I’m so sorry for how much you’re suffering. Hang in there.
I’ve been fighting candida for 40 years finally went carnivore. It helped a little bit but what really helping the most is working on my vagus nerve. I’m taking a product called cortisol manager one before I go to bed and one in the morning only been on it for a week but I think it’s working for my candida and my gut problems. I’ve been feeling so much calmer and relaxed. No brain racing No cortisol spikes in the morning or evening now taking the cortisol manager could be the miracle I’ve been looking for 💪🏻
Very frustrating here in the UK, doctors here don’t seem to have a clue about bacterial overgrowth. Think I may have this but docs won’t give me medication for it. They don’t even test for it here
I’m so sorry. Even in the US some doctors are resistant to the idea, but it’s been slowly changing in recent years. I hope you get the care you need. If you’re ever interested in a functional medicine provider, our virtual clinic is open to you: drruscio.com/virtual-clinic/
