Don't just throw minerals at the problem. Have an HTMA (hair tissue mineral analysis) test to determine the minerals you're actually absorbing. I got an HTMA and was low in magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium despite the fact that I was supplementing with those. They call that a "4 lows" situation in those critical minerals. A functional nutritionist who evaluated the html put me on a compound mineral (and vitamin) mix from Vykon Compound Mineral company and it took away my fatigue and improved my TSH. Sometimes it's not about individual minerals but the mineral balance, and if you don't test for minerals with HTMA you're just guessing. Also, D3 never seemed to have much effect on me. I now get sunlight.

TSH should be reviewed in context of other thyroid markers. It is not a good single lab marker to diagnose hypothyroidism.

Strange that you don't talk about suplementing iodine! Most people suffer from iodine deficiency with a high TSH as a result! A simpler solution I would think!

I have numerous red light devices already. A few weeks ago, after watching someone else's video, I decided to buy one of the devices (680/850 nm, I believe) that wrap around the neck -- or an arm, or a leg, whatever. I've been using it daily for 20 minutes. I also have a boatload of supplements that I've been taking since last September, including myo-inositol, Vitamin D3/K2, and selenium. I dread taking the boatload of pills morning and night. I'll try just these three and the red light device in the morning, see what happens. A year ago I was SOOOOOO tired after work, my throat acted funny, and I was always cold. I now have more energy, definitely; it's summer, so I'm not sure about the cold feeling; the funny sounding throat is improving. I still have a "scratchy" sounding throat, though.

Could you do an episode on supplements to AVOID if you have a thyroid condition? (or if you have subclinical hypothyroidism and are trying to heal your thyroid?) I think I’ve heard that Alpha Lipoic Acid should be avoided? Is this true? Are there any other supplements to avoid?

I've eaten plenty of Brazil nuts for selenium. But plenty of other nuts as well. Now I've cut way back on all of them due to oxalates. I've supplemented selenium before. Long ago. Can't recall any effects. It's always hard to know. Is myo-inositol much different from regular inositol? It seems weird that red led light therapy is recommended while all other led light is supposedly so bad. Why didn't someone make a phone or tablet that we can stare at for hours a day that's red light based. Not just apps and filters.

@gmw3083
@gmw3083 2 месяца назад
@Chawaniii I don't know, but I now think it's a good idea to keep nut consumption lower. Not as a dietary staple. If you look at what goes into the mass farming production of nuts, they're close to being an industrial processed food. A hunter-gatherer would never be able to eat as many nuts as we could. But roasting is an optional part of the process that's more likely helpful to lower the antinutrient content.

Can you talk about monitoring or increasing your progesterone or estrogen levels with functional medicine for women during the various phases we women go through. Monitoring the health of your thyroid is important, but for us women, so too is monitoring our hormones, different ones for different stages. Though for my teenage daughter and myself, I like seeing to it that we are on Vitamin C to boost progesterone.

Oh it is interesting concerning red light therapy. Personaly my TSH used to be around 2000 but in the past few months it's been around 1150. I was scratching my head to figure out why, maybe it is because I am doing IR sauna. This makes me I wonder if IR sauna would have the same effect.

What about menopause and weight gain ? My naturopath thinks the menopause reveals a deeper problem with the thyroid once it begins ,hence the weight gain .She recommends thyroid medication.

@jazzycattruthkitten4101
@jazzycattruthkitten4101 2 месяца назад
@lauraquigley6403 Hmm, my naturopath is absolutely convinced that it's a thyroid problem unmasked by the menopause . She is adamantly against any kind of hormone prescription, including bio identical. She believes these hormones cause suppression of immune function and are very dangerous in the long run . Now I'm not sure about this ,but I did try bioidentical progesterone 11 years ago . Within two years of using this stuff, my progesterone was off the charts, and it even elevated my Androgen . I had some strange symptoms and was more prone to getting colds . The truth is that these progesterone creams build up in the fatty cells of the skin,and there's no real way to regulate it accurately. It literally took two years for my body to cleanse itself of excess progesterone. I tried it again 8 years later and within 12 hours of using it, I couldn't stop sneezing ,I was allergic to the stuff and had to stop using . I wasn't impressed by bioidentical hormones ,sorry to say . Did I do something wrong ? Or is the creator of this realm an incompetent asshole for making women like this lol I don't know lol ,but my journey with these hormones wasn't good ,they build up in the system.

I’m bedbound due the extremely fatigue, joint pain, muscle weakness, brain fog leaky gut bloating, etc. None of Functional Med Dr, ND, Conventional Dr have ever said I have to treat symptoms bec my tsh , ft4, ft3 is normal so hormone given and I stopped working 10 yrs due debilitating fatigue, and symptoms above.
