I thought this show was fine… I was thrilled at the time to see her back on primetime, and thought they pulled it away too soon!! She was so into it, and that was fun to watch. I didn’t mind the comedy was so physical, slapstick, a little out of step with the times, -but put her together with someone like Ritter and the great Gale Gordon… And you had some magic cooking. Plus Eydie Gourmet doing your theme song! This show “had legs”…
Another great episode. Am wondering why they didn't have real life retired Judge Joseph Wapner do a cameo as himself since he was the judge on The People's Court at that time - or maybe he was asked and his fee would have been above the show's budget? This was one episode that showed it's sometimes helpful to have a family member that's a law student and therefore able to find a loophole to save the day. Am wondering if the law regarding recission of contracts due to error (regarding perceived value of item) is real and is enforced in all 50 states? I would have thought someone like Mrs. Loomis could have a valid defense of finders keepers, losers weepers - she seemed to think she had when she was asking an extortionate amount to return the teddy bear - she was definitely an opportunist just like the woman who tried to pass off a stuffed bunny for a stuffed teddy bear.
One of the best episodes of this short lived series. Where I worked back when this aired didn't get computers until 14 years later (in 1999, same year that I got one for home). Let me tell you there was some growing pains and a learning curve involved - and I'm an intelligent baby boomer with a college degree - can you imagine what it was like for Lucy and Curtis who were from the greatest generation or earlier? At least from this episode I learned when I first saw it never to put anything magnetic near a PC and to save backup sheets. It's a wonder that the writers (who did Lucy's other series) didn't include a scene where they tried to go to the city dump to retrieve the inventory sheets. On ILL, there was a "Bonus Bucks" episode where they went to a laundry to retrieve a winning dollar bill. Any one catch that Dave Madden who guest starred as the salesman was also on Alice (also written by Lucy's team) as Earl Hicks, one of Flo's boyfriends or earlier as Reuben Kincaid, manager of The Partridge Family?
This would have been a good show if they didn't makr her so ditsy. You can tell Lucy time was over. I know so many have said it but the jokes reminds me of the Lucy show and this didnt work for this show.. lucy and gale time was over
They really should have matured Lucy at this point as those gags of being an airhead woman who meant well was not believable for an elderly woman. They could have did more gags like Lucy having to use modern technology at the time such as asking for a record collection when everyone was using cassette tapes. I think they missed the boat on not making Lucy and Gale a married retired elderly couple. A good episode could have been Gale was already retired and was convincing Lucy to finally retire. They could have made her business executive who couldn't let go but was agreed it was time to move on, that could have been a good first two episodes.
Im surprised they went with this unknown unfunny cast. Golden Girls worked because of great writing but also they had a great cast of more then one known star
5:06 loomis: thank you wtach it buster? is that anyway to talk first she was like thank you then shes yells at him me: here i help you loomis: thank you watch it buster me: fine You do it then
I love Lucille Ball, but this show just didn't work. It was a slapstick sitcom, which was very dated and old fashioned in the 1980s, when all the popular sitcoms dealt with "issues." She was still great, but she should have shifted her routine to be more relevant to the times. No one really wanted to see an elderly Lucy doing slapstick. People might have wanted to see an elderly Lucy doing something new & age appropriate, though!
❤John Ritter was the male version of Lucy! Both so funny and entertaining. I’ve seen everything Lucy has been in on television. Recently I watched The Stone Pillow which proved she could also be a dramatic actress. I wish Life With Lucy had had a longer run! I enjoyed it. ❤❤
❤I Love Lucy! Always have….Always will!! She brought joy to my childhood in the 50’s (I am 73) . It is 2024 and I still find happiness in watching her. I especially loved her when she and Viv shared a house. These were hysterical!! Thank you, Lucy, for being you! I love you and thank you for all you have given the world. ❤
The problem with this show was that they hired the I Love Lucy writers who wrote physical comedy.,.Lucy was 75 years old .It could've been saved with fresh 1970s tv show writing team.
Cannot believe anyone got paid to write this drivel. And the acting is so terribly bad … did these people actually film a screen test? Ann Dusenberry’s voice is so loud as to be distracting. None of them are acting… they’re just reciting lines. And the laugh track… ugh. The producers are the ones who should’ve been fired.
ABC let Lucy do everything without clearence taking her at her brand value. No screen testing, they offered her writers from other shows that ended but Lucy wanted to do things her way and ABC gave her the keys. There was a proposal as a last ditch effort to convince ABC to keep it going with the Audrey Meadows episode where she was going to be a series regular as a woman foil to Lucy with more focus on Lucy, Gale and Audrey with the family in a background but Audrey declined saying she was happily retired but would do a few spots as the sister from time to time like holidays, etc but the show was canceled
@@SC-up8sn ABC had ordered a full season but canceled it after 13 episodes produced with a 14th one written and storyboard for three additional episodes but no scripts. The unproduced 14th script was a Christmas themed episode in which was about to go into filming when the plug was pulled. Allegedly the 14th episode script is circulating on the internet which has been confirmed as a planned episode but those storyboards never made it which likely are probably in the files of the late Madelyn and Bob to never be seen again since they were the writing team of the show. Lucy and Gale did receive full pay for the entire season and ABC wrote their checks immediately after the cancelation as they wanted to cut their losses and Ellen Burstyn was booted as well. Burstyn did return late Summer 87 to burn off her episodes while LWL was never aired again until Nick at Nite in the 1990s. Admittedly neither Lucy or Gale wanted to come back out of retirement. Lucy was convinced by her husband and Lucy convinced Gale to do it.
Can't believe that but I love this show I know hasn't the same magic of "I love lucy" but it's good comfortable and warm thanks Lucille for many years of joyful
They needed much better writers and actors. Except for Lucy, Gayle and the occasional star, the writing sucked big time. Lucy deserved better then this.
This was Lucy's last series and the writers were horrible. Lucy didn't even act as she usually did as it seemed she didn't put herself in this series. I know after this show was cancelled she stopped acting. Perhaps if she had better writers and actors the show would have been a great success.
I looked up supervising producer E. Duke Vincent and to my shocked he died almost three months ago in February 2024 and I started watching Life With Lucy last month which is just two months after his death.
Even tough this show was a complete flop, it's sweet wse her and Gale Gordon together again. He was part if her shows dxept fovI love Lucy though hecwas supposed to play Fred Mertz in it but he was involved in another project
Although Peter Graves played Jim Phelps from the second season of Mission: Impossible, Lucy as Desilu President gave the go-ahead to that series. So basically here he took the boss out for a date.
