I have been watching her sense I was 5 and my mom has been watching her sense she was young along with my grandma and grandma. So we loved and still love Lucy
I remember seeing a clip of Ms. Ball talking about how vicious the critics were about this show--and about her. In watching this again, it's a sweet, charming show, with just enough Lucy touches to be funny without repeating I Love Lucy.
@@kennykool100 If they had better actors and better writers, this most likely would have been a funny and successful series. I didn't like this series at all. But Lucy and Gayle Gordon were wonderful. They should have had better writers and people wanting this to be a success instead of crappy writing and actors.
Thank u for posting these rare episodes, so sad I read somewhere the last day of filming Lucy went to look at all the rooms on the set and was so very sad.
This is a really heartfelt episode, and the family has toned down their acting as well. And a guest actor every episode... serious Hot in Cleveland vibes, in a good way.
Although Peter Graves played Jim Phelps from the second season of Mission: Impossible, Lucy as Desilu President gave the go-ahead to that series. So basically here he took the boss out for a date.
I can see right now how some of the dynamic was lost with the new series. To be more hip with the times they made Lucy the shop owner. Gale Gordon was funny in the boss role but now he was just a co-worker..... so she could never really get in trouble with him. There was no husband to fool either, or even a landlord. She was still playing the same Lucy, but that character got laughs scheming and bunking authority, or getting in trouble... and now she was the boss. There was nobody to bunk. Also aside from the occasional guests the supporting staff and kids were inexperienced. But it seems like it wasn't acting that killed the show, it was script
I guess no one picked up on the Easter Egg......The Star Trek Reference was because Desilu Productions was what produced Star Trek owned none other by Desi arnaz and Lucille Ball They also produced Mission Impossible who starred Peter Graves the guest star of the episode
Every scene the family members are in, they bomb the scene. The heart to heart talk with the daughter - her every move was fake, her every line forced. She looked so awkward even getting some cookies.
They needed much better writers and actors. Except for Lucy, Gayle and the occasional star, the writing sucked big time. Lucy deserved better then this.
@VINTAGE ADVENTURES Too Close for COMFORT. Hey I'm just teasing you. Both shows are funny. I like Monroe and Jack. What makes Jack's personality stick out is he's such a clown. I wonder if he really was a good cook at home?
In my opinion, this show was doomed from the beginning, because she was trying too hard to make lightning strike twice. It was the 80's, so what had worked for her in the 50's/60's, was rather outdated by this time. I give her credit for trying another series, but it wasn't the same with Desi. I think she would've had a far longer (and richer) acting career doing a dramatic series or more movie roles (like "Yours, Mine and Ours" from 1968), rather than looking a fool like this and getting abysmal ratings. Gary Morton was a solid man for her, but he wasn't Desi: she never got the happiness in the end that she gave everyone else. I think most people knew what a horrible turkey this show was, but feigned ignorance out of their love for her from 30 years prior. The show was awful, with the same formula and physical comedy. She should've stopped while she was ahead.
