The constant trend of modern media adaptations being so ass is so funny, since they had so much source material, not shown on the screen, like you said star wars comics, Halo has books and comics which would have worked in halo show, and even that book a while back of starfire from Teen titans having a kid. New stories are great and all, and a freshness is good, but it comes down to people not staying loyal to the source material, where you can remove the label of "star wars" and it doesnt hold up.
Dude, Disney and even before disney, the clone wars (overrated show) invalidated a shit ton of better material so welcome to the club I guess. Instead of defending mid Disney-era comics you should read the original Legends Expanded universe comics, they are really good and full of artistic vision and creativity. Genuinely good stuff that stands up on its own and doesn't feel just like low-effort promotional material for a bigger franchise. Stuff that can compete with any other comic. And if you think the new comics have good art, most of them don't and use an insane amount of tracing and other lazy tactics that end up looking horrible (this is not true for the vader comics to be fair) but go check Dark Empire by Cam Kennedy or the Dark Times comic and see for yourself what amazing comic art really looks like.
I have read those yes. And I’ll say the art is also really good in those too. I didn’t bring those books up because that’s been said to be non canon now. And this whole video is just talking about how not caring about past canon can ruin everything. But yeah the old comics are awesome, Tales of the Jedi from the 90’s is awesome stuff. I can agree that some of the new Star Wars art is very lazy like the 2015 mainline book had some really bad doozies. But books like Bounty Hunters (2020) and even the recent Jango Fett book look really nice. And you have really a fair point about the clone wars show. I still am upset at what they did to Barriss Offee as I read her two books that came out in 2004 way before the show came out. But once again they claimed the old EU stuff is now not canon so I can’t really talk on it with this context.
Disney didn’t want to be bothered with the EU. YEARS of good work in expanding the story after Episode 6. They didn’t CARE! If they HAD to reuse Luke why not take him from the extended canon? They wanted to tell the story of a powerful woman who Luke got through to, why not tell the story of Mara Jade? She was an assassin ffs! The Acolyte has a bunch of cool ideas. I wanted it to be good but damn did they just absolutely shit the bed on execution. They had a chance to make bleeding a crystal an impactful moment. I started reading Spider-Man in the 90's when I was a kid. Batman and Spider-Man were the only series I always read. Even if they were weaker, I still read them. You don't understand that the TOS is NOT a legally binding contract. Only the parts that comply with federal, state, and local law are. Bait and switch, rug-pulls, or any changes that prevent Fair Use after point of sale point are illegal in all 50 states. Maybe do some research on the US Supreme Court's definition of Fair Use. For a contract to be legal, it has to benefit both parties. If one party alters the conditions, goods or services so that it no longer benefits both parties, it's not a legally enforceable contract anymore. Just think about it: if there's a clause in a contract that enslaves the customer, is that contract legal? No.

PSN ToS is still irrelevant since we were never given a direct chance to read it from the steam page or in-game (as far as I can tell) - regardless of the ToS stating that playing on PSN servers makes us agree to it, we weren't given the chance to understand it and therefore could not reasonably agree to it, making the ToS irrelevant to PC Helldiver's players.

Like there was never a point at all that gave us a link to the PSN ToS, only the *OP-EULA*, which as I have stated previously, is completely different to the PSN ToS, you cannot agree to something if you have not been given a reasonable chance to read it, or in this case no chance to read it at all, even if the terms or contract give other ways of agreement than reading or signing them, like say - playing on the servers that they refer to, if you haven't been given the terms or contract then it's not binding in any way, shape, or form, according to U.S. Law. The in-game helldiver's contract is more legally binding than that, since you actually get a glimpse of it for half a second, and that's saying something. And the fact that the PSN ToS is missing from the PC version of helldiver's 2 HEAVILY implies that they don't even use PSN servers to begin with, as that would be incredibly negligent on Sony's part. And do you really think that SONY, a mega corp more concerned about control than customer satisfaction, would just "forget" to add their legally binding terms to a PSN game and let people use THEIR servers without stipulations? While there is a bit of truth to this video, it also misses the bigger point I think. Sony knowingly sold this game to players who were never going to be able to make an account. Maybe this is your "hot take" but its not a very thorough one. Probably what is frustrating most players, myself included is that video games have turned into second jobs, grind this, grind that, its the only way that modern devs seem to keep players. Rarely does a game come along like HD2 that has an ability to keep players involved just because its fun. Now, potentially many players will not even be able to play it because they cant make an account. In the country of Ukraine with all they have going on, are not even allowed to make an account unless they have a PS4/PS5. Sony is truly being anti consumer here, and for no good reason. They state it will help ban problem players, but those options already exist. EULAs are painful at best, and shouldnt require a law degree to understand. you have clearly weighed in on a situation that you do not understand as my lawyer(and other peoples) have reviewed this and if this change goes live there is grounds for class action since, 1 sony has substantively changed the ability to access the game, 2 sony has offered no recourse to prevent this change, 3 they have done so without offering refunds (steam has been denying refunds). if you sell a product and then restrict access to that product that is theft or fraud.

I personally don't care about making an account (i have a microsoft, ubisoft and that site for cyberpunk), my issue is that PSN is not available in the Philippines. If PSN is not available here, then Helldivers should not have been sold here too. like region is not available to prevent me from purchasing the game.
I do agree with that! I’ve said it before in other comments (and in the video I guess) but this was just on the U.S perspective. It’s another discussion for countries that don’t have PSN support. Frankly I don’t know foreign law enough to feel comfortable making a video on it. That’s something that I’m sure lawyers are going to be talking over as that’s a real issue that needs to be worked out.
It looks like Arrowhead's official not-official advise is to (definitely paraphrasing) "You can create a PSN account in allowed countries such as when travelling from a non-allowed country". To me this is code for "hey guys use a VPN to create a PSN account to keep playing, just set your location to an allowed country and continue playing in yours". Which is kind of what a lot of people already do for their streaming services and I'm still kind of surprised there isn't much flack for doing that. But this absolutely sucks, Arrowhead is going to have like half or a third of the playerbase by the end of the month. It'd be great if Arrowhead could negotiate with Sony to remove the PSN requirement. But Sony is held to the separate and sometimes yet-to-be-determined standards of every country it operates in and wants users to at least have a PSN account so they can try to tackle the requirements. I'm not sure why they aren't available in the Philippines. That is just unfair. TLDR You can create a PSN account using a VPN and that seems to be Arrowhead's "official not official" advice. The outrage is justified but it looks like we're just shooting the messenger rather than addressing the message. Just don't quote me on that advise 🙈
Dude this is a parallel! Like what Helldivers would be like in-universe. At the end of the tutorial, you get a whole bunch of tablets that detail what you're signing up for and it is comically unfair and not something any rational human being would agree to. It reads like someone desperately trying to tell you how dumb this is. But Helldivers don't read it. And then we have our Helldivers IRL who didn't read that they'd need a PSN account in the future to do Crossplay and are now encountering this fact as if its new information as a result of a hostile entity rather than their ignorance. They make up outright lies that haven't been stated and use a shoot-the-messenger approach as well to hide ignorance. Even to fellow Helldivers. Like attacking you in the comments who is just calling out that this was always in the pipeline. Always on the offensive to hide their ignorance. So they attack Arrowhead, Sony, and anyone who calls anything out instead of admitting ignorance. Just like we attack enemies in Helldivers in completely manufactured scenarios that didn't need to exist. Honestly we could've just talked it out. But Helldivers choose violence! I actually believed the drama was justified too! So this has actually been a message of reinforcement for me to not believe these kinds of people. This video is incredibly tone deaf to the actual issues people are having with this change Let me break it down for you: First off: People are pissed because PSN accounts are not available everywhere, and for those that live in the MANY countries excluded by PSN, they will suddenly have a useless piece of software that doesn't work anymore, and unless Steam or Arrowhead/Sony decide to allow them to refund the game, then they can't do shit about it. There are 69 countries that have access to PSN, Helldivers 2 is sold in 190 countries..... Thats 121 fucking countries that just get the shaft for no real reason other than Sony wanting to excercise control over a game that became incedibly popular, AKA; blind corporate greed, which is not ever something that should be defended by anyone.... Even if they may have the right to do so.... Secondly: The steam page links to the privacy policy and op-eula NOT the PSN ToS at all, the op-eula mentions nothing of PSN (except for "Do not use any bugs, glitches, vulnerabilities, or unintentional mechanics in products or PSN to get an advantage.") because the steam version of the game does not use the playstation network except for maybe cross-platform friends, it does NOT run on PSN servers, Arrowhead own and maintain the Helldivers 2 servers, Sony engineers assisted with server issues at some point, but that does not mean they are spontaneously owned by Sony, so please do your research next time you quote a document. And for the privacy policy, it's only there because using PSN has been an option, not a requirement, and even if it was universal, its still not an agreement, it's notifying you of their practices. Please actually look into reasons people are mad before you make a video that misses the point entirely, and maybe do the research you claim to have done next time.
You’re asking me to do research but fail to understand the simple idea that the servers Arrowhead use *is* PSN. Arrowhead aren’t an independent studio that has to develop their own infrastructure for in game voice chat. It uses PSN that’s obvious. The game didn’t have as many dedicated servers at the start because they weren’t expecting that many players, it’s nothing to do about Arrowhead having to buy them with their own money or something. You really think Sony isn’t paying for that? Also watching a video with “U.S law” in the title then writing multiple paragraphs about other countries is odd to me. I said in the video that’s another issue and another discussion for countries that don’t have PSN. Don’t know what else you would expect from this video focused on U.S specifically. That’s for people who live there to make videos on idk about their laws enough to talk about it well.

Also just want to add that without the PSN ToS, the main point of your video falls apart since we never agreed to anything stating the requirement of a PSN account, nor were we given direct access to the ToS to have reasonable understanding that using the PSN network means anything other than we are on Sony servers - assuming that we are infact on Sony servers, which I am still not convinced of. To be fair, if those are their Terms of Service, then the players are within their right to decline that service if they do not like the terms. Players are also allowed to make complaints in a civil manner and use their voice to advocate for the terms to be changed in the future. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that you are sympathetic to Sony and that you would be alright with them establishing unfair terms just because it is their legal right to do so. Even when a person or entity has a right to something, that does not mean that it is right to do that thing.
I agree, players are *well* within their right to decline any terms of service they disagree with. As they should that’s standard sound logic. This is where I actually really like your comment, because it does get into the nuance of why this issue is fun to debate. Like I fully accept the “right to refuse service” law that every US company has. Like you could be kicked out and never let in back again because you had sunglasses on. Or wore a red hat and not blue one. Is that stupid? Obviously yeah. But is that their right? Yes it is if it doesn’t violate established discrimination laws. Doesn’t mean I agree with it, but this is America so I want to protect that freedom of business. But it’s their right to do that within the law, and seeing as I live in this country and pay federal tax, I feel I should respect that. Well first off Sony is a company that operates in America and thus falls under U.S law. So *I think* this issue *might* be tied to that. And of course I’m invested in the issue. I just meant the video itself is nothing to me, so why would I delete something that took so little effort yet has achieved such a visceral response? I’m not wrong either. That’s the funniest thing, I’m *objectively* right and I *want* these comments to be preserved to show how hilarious it all is for you guys. You guys won’t get Sony to change the TOS, Helldivers 2 will require accounts, the player base won’t actually decline, and in a year I’ll be left with this video to go back to and laugh.
@@yodaintheattic No matter what you personally think, publicly taking the billion dollar corporations side against "average Joe", especially when it comes to anti-consumer and/or greedy practices is never a good look, but you do whatever you want. Unlike Sony, I will let you speak and share your opinion freely, uncensored and without fear of reprecussion. It only falls under U.S. law within the U.S. Half of the issue here is that people bought this game in regions where psn isn't available, which is definately not covered by U.S. law, as it's not within the U.S. You're objectively right how? I'm not invested in U.S. law and don't know enough about it to make a definitive statement, but if you're "objectively right" you convey your point very poorly, as you did nothing to convince me that you were right at all. However, as stated, I don't know enough to argue about it, so for all I know, you might be. Sony may not change their tos and they may still require psn accounts in order to play, which is far from an optimal outcome, but hopefully this makes them think twice, and if not it will harm them. Contrary to what you or many people might believe, many people will leave (obviously not everyone who left a negative review, but enough to be noticeable), and combined with all the other bs Sony have done recently, it will stain their reputation and harm them in the long run. At least by doing this players have made it abundantly clear that they will not tolerate this in the future. The next time someone tries to do something like this, they might think twice and maybe, just maybe, they wisen up and refrain from doing it.
