Welcome to a different style of Booktube. I will be recording my surroundings (walking/hiking) while I discuss my thoughts on books from behind the lens.
NOOOOOOO...I will never remember. LOL This is why I need to write things down. The problem is I now think that is the name so I'm afraid to say anything different.... Sorry I keep getting it wrong... good news is you get more attention because I screw it up... I say it wrong but spell it out. LOL Just trying to look on the brighter side of my ignorance.
Yeah Finn... I don't know what I'm going to do with him. Sadly Luna had an accident last night and her hind legs are working but can't support her rear end. Murphy injured her years ago and something happen last night to reaggravated it... Praying she will be ok... has a Dr. appointment at 5 so will know more then. :(
How interesting is that... Luna seems to be a popular name for a cat which I find weird. Sadly last night she reinjured herself and isn't able to walk right now. Murphy injured her years ago and she must have done something last night to reaggravate it. She has a dr. appointment later today so hopefully we will see what is going on with her.
Yeah... you caught that about never being wrong again? LOL I thought that was a good one too. Luna had a little accident tonight and her back legs aren't working very well right now... ugh... Murphy crippled her years ago. She just got scared and ran... and ended up hurting her back again. GRRR
Yoshikawa Surname Meaning: Lucky or Good River. I lived in Okinawa, Japan for 3 years in the 90s. Pa was a Marine. I worked on the military base at the fitness center and did a lot of outdoor recreation. The head of outdoor recreation was Mr. Hirakawa (an engineer by trade but made more money working for the U.S. government painting lines on baseball/football fields). Mr. Hirakawa did not get a long well with his younger assistant Azuma Takami. Takami said the Mr. Hirakawa was an insecure man because he was embarrassed due to his name. Hirakawa Surname Meaning: Level or Peaceful River. Colloquially however, according to Takami, it meant "trickling stream" which is a bit of an insult. He felt that Mr. Hirakawa's height (5' 2") added to the disgrace of having been born with what some Japanese felt was a weak name. Takami meaning tall tree or castle was considered a good name. I learned an important lesson about "office" politics that are not culturally relevant to Americans. I did not know there was any tension between them until another bi-lingual coworker started translating Takami's ramblings about the old man. I would, however, consider changing my name if it was "trickling stream". Maybe changing it to something like "insane rapids" would be a better fit. And I knew that about calico cats. They do make terrible guard cats so keep that in mind.
Ahhhh you're a military brat then. The Jack Reacher book I just read talked about your type. Sounds like being one could be difficult if you always had to move. I think you are right about maybe changing your name if it weas trickling stream... that doesn't come across as very strong does it. This book has a lot of stuff to do with honor and the family name so it sounds like that tradition really hadn't changed... at least into the 90's. Interesting.
Another video that I had to watch and must know what's on the agenda. Luna is nice. It's funny that you collected Lee Child, and didn't know if you would like them.
What's on the agenda is just addictive... it will keep people coming back. LOL I really had a feeling I was going to like these books but it's been confirmed. LOL
Have a great rest of your week buddy! I'm glad you're enjoying Musashi. I'm in the middle of the second Sackett book. Having a good time with it so far.
I need to get back into Musashi... I've sat on it for a week... I've just been reading those other things and I know this book is slow reading for me. The other ones are quicker so I've been on those instead. Maybe tomorrow is a Musashi day. :)
Some eclectic stuff there! I have only read the first 5 Reacher books but it has been awhile so I feel like getting back to those. They are great. I'll be finishing up To The Far Blue Mountains today and looking forward to book 3. I think you should have a serious talk with head of security for abandoning his post during a video!
Yeah... I think Finn was trying to prove a point... I'm just not sure what it was yet. LOL I finished Reacher book yesterday and really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more for sure. They are just great "guy" books. LOL
Oh so your one of the ones way ahead waiting for the rest of us at the saloon. Just stay out of trouble because I don't want to have to get you out of jail again.
I'm participating Not participating! I am on the Wagon Train roster but I'm stubbornly not reading any of the Sackett books. That being said I might read Jubal because I own a nice hardcover edition. So I'm reading Not reading. Thank you No Thank you +James
Was this a comment or not a comment... I'm confused... not confused... Listen get your tail on the wagon train and read Sackett's Land... you won't regret it.
There's so much i want to say😂 Beautiful flowers! Lol Finn leaving you...hilarious. yes i knew that calicos are almost always female but im cat crazy. You finally started Jack Reacher series and are enjoying it - yay! Awesome signature by louis, what a cool edition! LOL smart just saying "by that author" Have no idea how to pronounce it. Mauve needing to change her channel name so you won't ever be wrong again😂and yay another BOB sci fi😂4 mins and i wrote a book for a comment. Hope i get 5 stars😊Awesome video
Yeah who knew a 5 min. video could pack so much fun. :) Finn is a coward! Finished Reacher book last night and I enjoyed it and will be continuing. :) I love those Louis L'Amour books... one of my favorite worldly possessions. LOL so you picked up that I didn't know how to say that name? LOL I wasn't about to try it... that would have added 30 seconds to the video. Yes I hope Maeve will change her name for me. LOL I don't ever want to be wrong ever again. Bob is good so far... 10 pm now so not sure how much I will get to read... sigh.
I'm waitin on Ms. Independent to get caught up and then I'm onto book 2. Yeah please keep stopping by you never know what kind of knowledge I'll be dropping... Most of it will probably be wrong but once in a while it's true. LOL Thanks brother for watching and commenting!!!!
LOL Your like the 4th person to say something about that sound bite. Usually I don't get many comments on the sound bites but I guess this one was fitting. :) LOL
OMG! I almost cried when you said you don't have the budget to insulate. My local used bookstore has a whole collection of the Leatherettes. That said they have some foxing to them on top. No pun intended. Did you do anything to fix up the collection you scored? Were they just in perfect condition? Great video!
Mr. Foxing please feel free to send me funds so I can budget in the insulation... I would greatly appreciate that. :) So the back story on that is this woman's husband had been collecting them for years so when he retired he was going to read them. Well he had brain cancer and passed away so he never go to retire or read them. She said he only read 2 of them. They are in mint condition, when you open them it's like they are being opened for the first time... It was a sad story but I let her know they were going to a home where they would be loved. That same day my youngest daughter who is 23 as if she could have them when I pass so it seems they will be in the family for sometime. I do have a handful that I'm missing to complete the set so I need to get out there and find them.
@@FacelessBookReviews If you want please let me know which ones you are missing they do have this whole collection at my local bookstore. I've been debating on getting the entire collection slowly but I have seen them in various conditions. That is an incredible backstory, I'm so glad they are going to be well loved and in good use.
Yes, if this book had been written by someone else whose name isn't associated with Westerns this book would not be classified as a western. Matter of fact I'm just going to say it now. Sackett s Land is an Adventure novel. See, now that didn...*slips and drops and steps on phone* Dang it!
LOL your right... it's only called a western because he wrote it... it's a historical novel in my opinion. A very good one at that... Don't tell me you broke your phone again? Ugh...
We need a fiddle player along I could listen to that all day hmmm, you need some tar paper and some old weathered wood for starters better watch your back, that island monster is always lurking and watching
Yeah I was digging that music as well. LOL tar paper...That would look amazing out there. LOL OH I never thought about the island monster... thanks for the reminder.
Its flattering and confusing that anyone would think this group could be directed in any direction. Its like herding cats. Book 1 is awesome, although its soured me on pirates... those dudes are just awful. I was really surprised with the Shakespeare references, James actually informed me about Lamour being a fan of his work...... Great, now I have to read Shakespeare. Are all of your leather editions gilded?
LOL Herd of cats... now that is a visual. I agree book 1 was great... it actually makes me want to read a pirate book now... They were brutal people. I'll skip Shakespeare for now... you read it... report it and I'll cliff note those videos. :) They are not gilded... and they are not real leather either... LOL but they are pretty nice for $100.
The vampire in Dark Shadows name is Barnabus. Which I thought was a weird name for a vampire. Not sure if Barnabus is a yuppy name or working class name. I think at your age it would be worth having one more child so you can put that name to use. And your office looks great this time of year.
Let me run that by the wife on the 1 more kid thing... I'm sure she would be onboard... I did tell her I wanna change my son's name to Barnabus. I wonder if he would mind. Dark Shadows was a soap opera correct? I never watched it but probably would be way better than Day's of our Lives. I'm thinking of doing something fallish with my office this month... :)
Thanks and that's not necessarily a bad idea. I'm not sure I've ever finished many series... I've started many but not sure how many I've finished. CS Lewis Sci-fi series I finished... I do remember that one.
Thanks for your take on this one. Louis L'Amour has a great talent of making the story interesting and enjoyable but pared down. While complete, the story is compact and to the point. We're off to a great start!
I would agree we are off to a good start. I also agree with everything you said about LL. He really was a great author. I wonder if he had chosen a different genre if he would have been even more popular... I know everyone has heard of him but how many have actually read his stuff?
The music makes me wanna square dance!🤠love it! Glad you're enjoying the series. Always so fun to read a fave author! Can't wait to hear your letter/journal entry😊
Yeah I was digging the music myself... I thought it was pretty fitting. :) So I worked on my skit and I have gone a different direction... Hope to have it out Friday maybe.. still working on the script. LOL I might have to hire you as a ghost writer. Esp. if everyone else's videos are better than mine. :)
Great review! I like you said even people that don’t really like westerns will probably like this book. I think this one is more historical fiction rather than a western but even then it’s still a great book!
Thanks Austyn... I agree this doesn't feel like a western at all but it's still super good. I'm glad we are doing this. Between all of us we will be sure to grab someone's attention and turn them onto a great author.
Yeah I'm going to assume I will love this series. I love historical stuff so this has that historical feel. We will see a family from start to finish... Love that idea. Just subscribed to your channel... for some reason I thought I already was subscribed but apparently not. Think I'm 242 :)
Thank you sir! I'm glad we are doing this even to get the word out there. We all know westerns aren't a very big genre in this little corner of BookTube. Hope you are doing well... haven't seen any fishing videos lately. :)
He really was a great author. I've yet to read one of his books I didn't enjoy. They aren't all great but I haven't come across a bad one yet. Thanks for watching and commenting as always... Have a great week sir!
Score one for a win! I personally never ever win anything. However, my wife won a trip for two to Hawaii and I convinced her to let me go with her. It was fun.
I win stuff often... must be my good looks. That was nice that your wife brought you after having to beg her... isn't that just like a wife... she probably wanted to bring her sister or something... women!!!
Back out there with all your friends eh…😂 seriously, good review. Sounds like an interesting read, glad it “stuck the landing” enough for a recommendation from you.
Yeah my friends don't usually say much. :) Thanks for the complement tho. LOL It was a decent read... Not getting much love view wise tho so sadly might not be helping the author with her new release. I tried tho. LOL
Being an actress and a writer, YES!! Would love to hear journal entries of y'alls travels! LOL laughed a lot in this one. Cookie, Doc, I love it. Yes def to the whiskey rule. Just pour it on and he'll be fine. Use someone's white shirt as a bandage😂also why did i get a mental pic of Grozz with a raccoon tail hat and a shotgun??😂
You got that mental pic because that is exactly what he looks like. He sure don't say much but the man can sure track and hunt... LOL Yeah I think it's hilarious that this thing has taken on a life of it's own. Weird how that works. Glad your back btw.
Perfect for a Lifetime channel book to movie adaptation. Fun fact about Lifetime: They went from 100,000,000 available cable viewers in 2010 to 63,000,000 now. Cable is slowly dying.
Interesting fact... I'm am truly amazed at how much "free" tv is out there. There tons of apps for the smart tv that have free movies, tv shows and all kinds of things... You literally can almost watch anything for free at this point... legally. Obviously not everything but if you are like me an like all the old stuff and don't need the newest shows anyways...
It's cool that you won a giveaway but it was that special to knock your socks off. It's always a pain for me when my socks keep shooting off my feet and I'm like, omg! I need to go get them again and put them back on.🧦
Can't pick the algorithm. My Animal Channel did a short that was 187k views 525 subscribers 177 shares and now that channel is 5-15 views per hr for 3days now. However, you have a consistent following and are good so I believe you will grow 😊
This is true I won't even try to figure the algorithm out. Much smarter people than me struggle with it. LOL I see you put a video out so I will be watching that as some point today... Can't wait.
@@FacelessBookReviews I listen when walking the dogs or driving the car. I want to keep the mystery for life and that maybe crazy but I do feel it's for the best. Also yes, to dedicate a book to someone without seeing his face and possibly not meeting due to location. Keep creating videos good friend.
It’s good that you are the handsome fun toting guy. 😂 I think guns are necessary in the wild. I love the trails videos and that you are supporting indie authors!
Yeah it's kind of a curse being this character but I didn't want to put any of the others thru this... LOL Wait till you see the indie author I picked this month... I love the cover and it sounds like a fun Sci-fi with some comedy sprinkled it. At least I think there is some humor... guess we will find out.
Wait a minute... is Musashi more than one book? OH man I hope not 970 pages is a big enough book lol. Glad to hear you go some of the old western books there... can't go worng with Louis L'Amour my good friend.
Glad you like and decided to join the nut house that is my channel. :) I will swing on over to yours in a bit and take a peak around. Look forward to conversing with you!
