Where do you get this? Do you have to get it from the lede kit or is it somewhere on their website?
@JonTalksTrumpet
@JonTalksTrumpet 21 день назад
I got it from Vennture Mouthpieces, of course! Let me know if you'd be interested in buying something from them, I do mouthpiece design work for them (as a contractor) and can help get you set up with whatever you'd like to try.

@@JonTalksTrumpet I am aware that it's vennture, but I can't find one of this specific size on their website. I also looked at the lēde kit and saw the x cup but nothing jk or drop, i might just be misinterpreting this, but is yours completely custom?
@JonTalksTrumpet
@JonTalksTrumpet 21 день назад
@@barackdrinksWD40 The Drop X is a series that is in the process of being added to Vennture's lede kit, but as of now that model and configuration is custom. BUT Vennture is insanely affordable compared to other companies for custom mouthpieces - a lede series is $185 and a custom trumpet mouthpiece is $225. A copy of this piece would be $205.

I picked up the 30-1 tool. I tried it on various mouthpieces that I know the back bores on (including Frost mouthpieces). Would you say it might sit differently with the same throat depending on the cup shape? Thanks, great video btw.

Going too small and shallow was my biggest mistake. Trying to play on Yamaha or Schilke 11s with shallow cups because I had range anxiety... I weaned myself off the smaller pieces and am now a happy 1.25C player. I have one of the VB symphony series with the 24 throat and #24 backbore. Awesome mouthpiece.

This is a great, informative video on piccolo trumpet and some of its baroque literature. I once turned some trombone mouthpieces for a symphony player family friend. The complexity of brass mouthpieces is astounding, and hope to watch more of your videos about brass in general. Thanks! 🙏🏻

So, after watching your vid about orchestral mouthpieces under $100, I ordered a Tom Hooten and a Bach Symphonic 1 1/4C 24/24. Still waiting for the Bach, but the Yamaha arrived today. So far, I love it. I've been a Bach 1 1/4C guy for years, and recently discovered the Yamaha 17B4, which I think I like better. I'll be playing in a couple of orchestras this Fall, so I need to settle on a more symphonic mouthpiece. I've only used it for a couple of practice sessions, but I really like the Tom Hooten, so far. Big sound, comfy, and plenty of color. It also gaps really well in my Yamaha horns.

All awesome advice. I never went on a mpc safari. My buddy did, and every time he decided he didn't like something I borrowed it. If I liked it, I bought it off him. As a result, I have several mouthpieces for Bb that all have different sounds and purposes, the best mouthpiece for C trumpet I've ever played, an Eb mouthpiece that makes a stock E3L sound almost like a C trumpet, and a couple of great piccolo pieces. Each one plays, for me, like it's optimized for the horn I use it on, which makes playing so much better. Never sold a mpc I previously liked playing. I always felt there was something about it that was worth keeping and though I haven't done it yet, I figured I could send a couple off to a custom maker who could scan and combine various features to produce something better. Funny enough, I only ever copied my teacher's choice in mouthpiece when I bought a Wick 2B for cornet. I learned my lesson real quick. My teacher did buy a mouthpiece off me at one point (it was a trade -- I give it to him as payment for a lesson). I wonder if he's still using it. I've always taken issue with teachers saying, "It's not the (mouthpiece/horn), it's the player!" While there is a certain fundamental truth to that, it ignores the important point that poorly-fitted equipment hinder a player. I've known players who took that advice to the extreme, ignoring playing issues that persisted despite practice and lessons, only to one day try a different mouthpiece and have their minds blown. I wonder how many students have given up playing because of such advice from teachers.

I’ve found that using even topical tretinoin as an anti aging treatment, it absolutely plummets my playing. Not because of dry lips, or any discomfort around d the mouth, but a weird mystery sense of severely lacking stamina and range. Despite playing at least an hour a day. Beware of tretinoin and trumpet playing. Even the cream just for the face.

12:08 'requires both hands' easy solution to this, use a different keyed trumpet, for the whole symphony and yes i understand the C trumpet is standard in orchestra, but mahler scores for F trumpet anyway, I'm not telling you to go out of your way to get an F trumpet but using a different trumpet at your disposal can be better for your wallet then again who am i kidding, its just a stupid D flat

I’ve got the page flip dragon fly, the two extra buttons allow me to be able to program crazy page turns, like to a completely different part and back again. I added a second iPad Pro, dual screen means I can have two complete pages on stand. Thinking about altering my stand so that I can leave both iPads plugged in, and make use of the landscape mode of one iPad when playing march card, blown up to full screen.

I just ordered a second hand mouthpiece with a 27.4mm rim, a 17mm cup diameter, and a 3.6mm bore. I normally play in orchestra and I'm not too experienced in mouthpiece finding. I'm looking a collosal sound. Do you think I made the right choice?

Hey Jon. I'm curious how the mouthpiece gap (between the end of the shank and the beginning of the leadpipe: internal gap) factors into your observation of the slotting for heavy versus light mpcs.

Mouthpiece phobia is what it is called. I've had and played on a drawer full of mouthpieces. Since I'm older now, and just play for fun, I don't get hung up on this issue of mouthpiece compromise. I think it's about methodology and science. It's just like having 10 pairs of shoes of the same size, and each pair will fit different. I think it's about physical characteristics, lip structure, etc. If the mouthpiece feels good and it takes minimal effort then the sound you want will be there. Practice like you play should be the main goal .

I like your educational stories about your favorite trumpet. It is impossible to order anything now. I kindly ask you to send detailed drawings for the manufacture of a trimming mechanism for the trumpet Yamaha in B, in C. Thank you! Sincerely, Anatoly Sakharov. Mikhailovsky Theater. That old school mouthpiece reminds me of the one that is stuck in my Dad's old Conn bugle. It's my favorite mouthpiece ever. You'd almost think it was made from thick sheet metal instead of a billet with how svelt it is, and the rim is just perfect. Nice sharp throat, too. I really wish modern mouthpieces were more like that.
