This is my channel where I watch movies and television shows for the first time and share my reactions with you guys feel free to leave suggestions for future videos in the comments section.
I just discovered your channel yesterday... And immediately watched at all the LOST reactions! I really like smart reactors with a lot of life experience. You're very good at analyzing and it's really funny and interesting to see that you have the same questions and theories in your head as we did 20 years ago. ^^ Now imagine that we had to wait a week between each episode and sometimes months between seasons!!!! With all those cliffhangers, it was pure torture! :D I hope you can continue to avoid spoilers... Your conclusion after finishing the first season will probably be that this was wild and really good. But one thing I can promise you: That was just the intro. ;) The REAL fun is just beginning! :P Greetings from Germany
Thanks so much for checking out the channel! I got a little bit behind because it took forever for me to edit my reaction to Civil War. This weekend I'm planning on watching the rest of this season and editing episode 18.
"I know that people started to kinda complain as it progressed into the later seasons, and by the finale, pretty everyone was unhappy with the way it wound up" For what it's worth, it's better on a rewatch, once you understand what's going on/where it's going. I suspect it's the first viewing of the later seasons/last season that has more problems.
It's crazy to think that Jin and Sun's marital problems stem from their inability to talk to each other to resolve them together. They seem to be each on their own little island. With Sun's father as the shark preventing them from getting together. And now that they are free of his harmful influence on the island, when they can finally tell each other everything, Sun speaks to Jin in a language he doesn't know, and Jin moves away from her instead of stay and explain. Everything remains to be done for them.
Great reaction, thanks! 🌴😎🌺 Have you thought about giving a recap at the end of s1 on your overall thoughts, theories, questions, favorite or least favorite characters?
John Locke's speech ("THEY'VE ATTACKED US!...") is my favorite monologue on this show, and one of my two favorite bits of dialogue said by one of the castaways (the other is in season 3). It might be one of my top 5 season 1 moments. The bit when everyone on the beach is fighting over Jin and they close up on his face as the audio is distorted into gibberish is your clue that no, Jin does not speak English. They're definitively confirming he doesn't understand. I think they use that trick only one other time with him. But that whole scene on the beach is great, it's tense... it's so tense that I've probably seen it twenty times and I still get uncomfortable watching it. There's one other thing I want to point out ... the first few times I watched the show, back in the 2000s I started to notice it in this episode during the beach scene but it goes all the way back to the pilot episode.... when something sinister is about to happen, 9 times out of 10, Charlie has the hood of his sweatshirt up over his head. Even if Charlie isn't the one being sinister. I don't know if it was intentional but it definitely stands out here as the other castaways falsely accuse Jin and beat him.
Hopefully I should be watching that episode this weekend. I would need some time to lay out my 3 favorites...but someone suggested me doing a season wrap up video after I watch the finale and I will definitely make a "3 favorite episodes" category for that.
Thanks for the shoutout! Another great reaction, and I cant wait for the next few episodes! Agree on Game of Thrones too; you even have characters that you hate in that show do something noble or that you can really get behind, and even the best people make bad choices occasionally.
Ya...on GOT the first time they showed The Hound I was like "OK this guys basically gonna be the Darth Vader of this show...and then he wound up being my favorite character.
In the outtakes from this episode, Jin zipped her hair up in that dress, lol. And in a show full of shitty dad's, Jin's father is a shining light, perhaps low of station, but high in character. Also, lots of people get on tv maybe once in their lives, perhaps as part of some news story, that aren't famous. That's actually pretty common. A witness to an event, someone directly involved in an event, a family member of someone directly involved in some event. A neighbor of someone directly involved in an newsworthy event.
Ya...I thought about the news angle...but it didn't feel quite right to me. Like if everything was reversed and some guy from the Korea and a station in LA was trying to ask them questions as they got into their car, there would have to be a realization of "this guys not going to understand our questions and we're not going to understand his answers". And if it were a big enough news story for them to take video of him regardless wouldn't it be odd that NONE of the 4 dozen survivors would recognize him? Maybe I'm just overthinking it. I'm sure it'll all make sense when they reveal it.
Boone trying to turn Sayid against Shannon is really hateful behaviour, imo. Very glad that Locke had some wise words of advice for her and that she took them on board. Re the hatch, hold your horses...patience is definitely a virtue on this show 😁 Love how interested/excited you are about Hurley being on TV in Korea! Great reaction!
@@adamscott98 I think it's just because I'm a grumpy old guy, but I've never understood the "first comment" thing. I mean, it's not even a "good" comment. Just, "first". Maybe add something to it of value? IDK. And it's been a thing for a long long time. It's just weird to me that it ever was and is still a thing. 🤷 Again, probably just because I'm old and grumpy. Lol.
A bit of trivia regarding this episode: the network, ABC, created the dumbest "clickbaity" adverts (before clickbait was even properly a thing) for the TV to advertise this episode. They had clips of Kate asking Sawyer "What are you doing?" and then him loading his gun, saying "I'm getting even", all edited in such a way as if he was going after Jack, suggesting that there will be some large conflict between them in this episode. Super dumb, and yet another proof that suits should never be given freedom when it comes to media.
I'm curious, not too long ago you asked for recommendations from us about other LOST reactions we've watched. You got a lot of response, many of us citing the same reactors. I've wondered if you've checked any of them out, and if so, what you thought about them?
Ya the channel that almost every single person recommended was Rob and Trin so I started there. I like what I've watched over there quite a bit so far.
@@OldBeardedGuyReacts ... Yeah, I liked Rob and Trin, I watched them all the way through. The most thorough analysis of the show would have to be Neil Talks though. He took copious notes, wrote down every number, tried to figure out anagrams for names. He got really close in his guesses sometimes, and still sometimes, he was wildly off base, but he was a good watch.
if you haven't yet, please react to Evil Dead 2013, it's one the best ones to me, and alot of others will agree, i love the main girl, and the story. love horror movies, but the original exorcist scared tf out of me when i was a kid back then, plus i was supposed to be in bed, but i was on the side of the couch crouched, the part with her head came on, i jumped up and ran to my mom screaming and crying lol. i'm 32 now, and i still won't watch it. i don't like clowns, but i've seen all the IT movies, i'll watch those before i watch the exorcist. i've seen hereditary, and fuck that movie, those 3 parts especially the ending no! i can't watch it nor listen to it. the part in when evil lurks, the part with the mom walking on the road with her kid, nah she scared me. sometimes when i go outside at night to the laundry room, i always make sure there's nothing on the road, like i won't see her walking up with her son in her arms like that. nah at that point i'd kill that dog with all my power if that was my kid. yeah the son who's autism at the end ate the grandma...
I actually watched it like 10 years ago...whenever it came out on DVD. I agree that it was pretty awesome. There's a lot of horror stuff that I wish I hadn't seen yet (Hereditary, Midsommar, The Descent, etc) so I could watch them on here for the first time.
@@OldBeardedGuyReacts damn sound of loved to see your reaction to it. in a huge horror fan, but i for ones that scare tf out of me lol. alex wolf is in hereditary, did an amazing job, it shows reeks emotions in situations, they’re not predictable like most horror movies. it’s a good movie, but scared me and alot of others for weeks.
Sawyer killed a man, the wrong man, just before getting on flight 815. Just after crashing on the island, he shot the marshal to kill him, and failed. Sawyer has had a rough week.
JACK: [to Rose] It's normal. ROSE: Oh, I know. I've just never been a very good flier. My husband keeps reminding me that planes want to be in the air. JACK: Well, he sounds like a very smart man. ROSE: Be sure and tell him that when he gets back from the bathroom.
@@OldBeardedGuyReacts I think you replied to the wrong comment of mine. But, yes I know Carlin well and love when he talks about how people try to change wording as if it'll actually change the condition. "Soft language" Lol. I once got to see Carlin live, front row center. Funny, funny man.
Weird. Sorry about that. I'm glad you at least knew what I was referring to. I was also fortunate enough to see Carlin live....off the top of my head, it was probably late 2000 or early 2001.
If you want a full look behind the curtain, what was REALLY going through my mind was the ending of basically all the SAW movies where the music starts playing and they start showing you all the dialogue that you assumed meant one thing but actually meant something else. My brain was like "what if, in the conversation with Jack before the turbulence, it's JACK who says that the guy she's with is her husband, and she never confirms it. What if she knows her husband is alive because she knows he was never on the plane?" Then I went back and scrolled through the first couple episodes and figured out that either I'm wrong or Rose completely lied to us. Not a lie by omission but an actual lie.
@@OldBeardedGuyReacts I love hearing and sharing these type of theories. Most Losties do. It's one reason the show is so great. Creating dialogs and sharing theories. First time watching, I remember coming up with some VERY wild theories and predictions. 99% of them were incorrect, but it was still fun trying to guess where the writers were taking us. Lol. I can't speak much about characters lying, but we've already seen an example of what you're talking about, when we and the other survivors all assumed Sawyer had Shannon's inhalers. Also, I need to rewatch all of the Saw movies. It's been a while. I remember enjoy them and the twists they took.
I don't have a lot to say on this one. It's a great episode .. it's never been one of my favorite's but whenever I watch it I think "oh, this one's great, I'm satisfied." You mentioned Sawyer and Sayid, I think the exchange here about Sawyer's tarp is the beginning of their relationship warming up. Before this, I don't think Sayid would have giggled at Sawyer nor would Sawyer ask Sayid an actual question of importance (the whispers). Which of course begs the question we've been asking for 19 and a half years ... are the tarps made of the plane's emergency slide, or was their a tarp salesman on the plane? Oh, one thing I noticed, you didn't have it in your edit, but... Sawyer said his actual name aloud for the first time. And honestly, it took me until my most recent watch through to realize, most of the characters besides Locke don't have their last names used until the middle of season 1. I think last episode was the first time they used Charlie's. But yeah...we know at least Sawyer's first name at this point.
Interesting idea about the tarps. I think I heard Sawyers actual name during the episode and just didn't say anything about it...and then in the edit I probably breezed past it and clipped it.
Sawyer says he wants his revenge. Against the boar, but actually against the real Sawyer. And finally, the only one he has is against Jack. He could relieve Jack of his guilt over destroying his father's career by simply repeating to him what his father had said to him in the bar. But, he doesn't do it. He lets Jack torture himself, as he had been tortured recently by this same Jack.
Interesting. To me, this episode softened my view on Sawyer quite a bit. I think it's still going to be quite a while before he and Jack are capable of that sort of conversation with each other. Kate seems to be the only one on the island he can be that honest with.
Nice, I've never even thought about where the axe was! Claire was actually missing for almost 2 weeks, so the camp has had to do without it for even longer. Yes, Kate has apparently been married, but "it didn't last very long". Make of that what you will.
I'll attempt to find some stuff about myself to talk about in a future intro. I'm also planning on doing an "ask me anything" style video once I get to 500 subscribers.
Ironically, that was just something that popped out of my mouth. By the time he actually found the guy I was fully on board with him having the right person. Then he started reading the letter and the guy was like "who?"...And at that that point I was like "oh no he actually DID kill the wrong guy".
Without spoilers, I honestly don't remember the subtitles explicitly ruining that in ep 19 (on the DVDs, which I have). Although it wouldn't at all surprise me if the streaming services have added subtitles which DO ruin it (seeing as how they love to butcher certain episodes/put spoilers in episode descriptions). But, yes, definitely better safe than sorry.
The episode descriptions are the worst for spoilers...as well as the images they use for thumbnails. I try now to not even look at episode titles. I don't remember if it was episode 2 or 3...but I opened one of them and the description starts with "we find out that Kate was the prisoner", and I was like "seriously? What kind of maniac puts that sort of thing at the BEGINNING of the description?"
@@letsrock1729 figuring out what was said in episode 19 was a huge debate on the internet when it aired. Now the subtitles kill all that, and not only that, on most streaming website the subtitle is wrong
@@akkimessiah3219 Although I watched the show as it aired, I didn't really use the internet back then (I'm always very slow to catch up with technology), so I missed out on the debates. But I did watch the show with my then-partner and had debates with him. I don't specifically remember what we thought was being said in ep 19 (my old TV didn't have a subtitles option), but I'm very glad I didn't get anything ruined (by either wrong OR right subtitles).
Thanks. I can't take too much credit. By the time Sawyer actually pulls the gun on Frank Duckett I was fully on board with the idea that he was the guy.
Great Memento prediction haha. Jack's dad was a dick, but I love seeing the pieces of humanity they add to him so he's not just a one note drunk a-hole. Life is all about the grey area and all of the characters find themselves going back and forth on that spectrum, which is one of my favorite things about Lost as a whole.
I agree that all of the characters are super well written. Even the characters that I strongly disliked in the beginning get slightly softened once you get some development of their backstories.
Dude, I've watched this show like 8 times, I still don't know which one is Scott and which one is Steve. lol, and I don't care. Try drinking heavily before you next bold prediction. Just a suggestion. lol. Sawyer doesn't just hoard stuff, he hoards information. He knows about Jack's dad, but he didn't say anything. Since he found the Marshalls gun and badge, he may know about Kate, but he hasn't said anything. I mean, the dudes a dog, he would have noticed Kate for sure when he got on the plane. Who know what else he knows.
He also had the manifest for an extended period of time, which I'm pretty sure would've listed the seating assignments. It may have also had some designation about him being a marshall etc.
I wish i could watch this show again without knowing whats gonna happen. Enjoy the experience bro, it only comes around once! Once again guys, no spoilers. Let him experience it!!!! Can't wait for the next episode!
Thanks! Working on editing the next one right now. I'm definitely enjoying it....and also looking forward to rewatching everything once I've seen the entire story and going "wow...they really foreshadowed that this early on"....because I know (technically I don't KNOW but I strongly suspect) that there's a lot of that going on that I'm missing.
I think the reason people in movies and TV just ask for a “beer” or some other generic drink, is because the producers want to avoid the product endorsement aspect and complications of naming a specific brand.
I just only got your channel recommended to me, it's tough searching for people who are both likable and not boring to watch. I love your rants! It's cool that your videos have both your reactions and your opinions, thanks for the video!
also, I as well am completely dismayed by how unpopular this terrific movie is. If you're interested in watching less popular horror/thriller films, I got a few. First of all Aterrados(from the same director) From 2023 releases: The Last Voyage of the Demeter, The Boogeyman, The Offering, Tarot and Thanksgiving, all are fun rides! If you haven't seen these, I highly recommend them, hope you enjoy c:
The first one you mentioned I haven't seen but it's been recommended quite a bit. It's definitely on my list. Thanksgiving I'll definitely be watching in the next few months. I plan to put it up around the beginning of November.
According to Damon Lindelof this was the worst episode of the entire series. And I agree....so if you made it through this one it's smooth sailing from here...others will point to a few missteps in Season 2 and 3, but even those episodes are well written and well executed.....this episode is just a mess... Charlie's backstory is terrible... even Giacchino was uninspired...directorally its also a mess with our Losties forever running to catch up...terrible...
The changes you've recently made work really well, imo. And I'm loving the thumbnails too. Probably my least favourite episode of this season due to the cringey flashback, but I still really enjoyed your reaction!
I can't wait for the day when I can freely Google and RU-vid search all my questions about this show without fear of spoilers. The story behind the Steve/Scott confusion is definitely one I'm looking forward to diving into.
