Unfortunately another of the German helmets came back with blood stains in them and the veterans never cleaned them, that's why the liners rot and the inside of the bells rust. Nice safe of the helmet, too many people repaint these and slap decals on them which decreases the value. 👍
Quist was the last ones making the M40 helmets until late 1944, they eventually started making the M42 but they were all no decals. By the time Quist finally made the M42 is was past the no decals and the M42 helmets were all being made the slate Grey color as per the Whermacts orders. The shells you have was Czech captured and used as civil defense (police/fireman) and eventually auctioned in 1998 by the Czech Republic. The helmet shells were part of the German army group central and south that surrendered at the end of the war around April of 1945 .
Very nice "droop bill" M34. So happy to see you uncover the original paint instead of stripping and repainting it. I had a very similar helmet in the past with a Luftschutz winged decal that was also in apple green. You did a great job.
Thanks! Looks like you had a nice project helmet then as well, green helmets with LS decals are pretty rare from what I know. There'll be another, though, a bit different restoration coming soon-ish as well :) Luis
In the video 19.25 seconds you talk about the original sets for fixing hoops. Both of these sets are copies, pay attention to the attachment of the petals, the attachment of the original is different. So, both of these sets are very mediocre. Otherwise, the helmets are good, congratulations! It remains to understand what you will do with them and how you managed to order RAL 7018, because it has not been released for a long time.
Thanks for your input, but that is incorrect. These MSS44 marked pins are often found in czechoslovak reissued helmets. There are bad quality reproductions marked MSS44 as well, though, so much is correct. But these are not copies. And thanks, I know of a paint store that mixes color up to older specifications, that's usually where I order from. Luis
Just a dumb comment. De-nazification was very important, required, at the time. Surely it wasn't done in recent times. This helmet is in spectacular condition besides the emblem, he got a great deal on it. Most people would love to have this one.
@@Jordan-rb28 Thanks for the reply to the original comment. I agree with you completely and I personally also think that the decal was either scratched off during or very shortly after the war. To me it isn't that much of a turn-off to have a decal that was removed a long time ago. If it were recent it would be a different story.
@@SilvercreekAnimations Yes, plus it would have been very difficult to officially sell it in Germany initially as items with forbidden symbols get deleted fairly quickly.
Hi, as of right now I mainly have restored helmets for sale (the ones you can see in my other videos), feel free to send me an eMail (look at the video description).
@@PotatoDigger hi potato digger I just subscribed to your website. I’ve also sent your personal message as I’m interested in purchasing one of your restored M35 or M40 helmets with liner and chinstrap. I’m very impressed by your detail and knowledge and look forward to hearing from you all the best from the UK.😀👍🇬🇧
You need to be patient, but if you are I think you can find good shells anywhere and end up avoiding all the done up relic helmets with giant holes in them. But thank you!
Great work man, I used to comment on your channel from my other account. Glad to see you uploading again! Your videos are always very interesting! Greetings from the US
Thank you! There will be more coming soon, just need to turn it all in to videos :) I was actually in New York for ten days less than a week ago. But now it's back to Greetings from Bonn again ;) Luis
Hey, I mainly buy them on local sites where people who find them list them, that was they are usually cheaper. In Germans it's sites like Kleinanzeigen.
Fine work! I know that these helmets a rivet to secure the liner that is hard to replicate and install. The split pins work fine. The entire project looked like a lot of fun!
Thanks! It depends, some manufactureres riveted them in but others also used split pins so you can pretty much do whatever luckily. And yes, it was fun to restore! The moment I saw the decal wasn't denazified surprised me a lot.
Excellent find. As a collector these are like the vw beetle found in a barn with 2000 original miles which belonged to the parish priest in 1960! I am very envious😢
Weil man sich für Geschichte interessieren kann und ich es wichtig finde, Dinge zu erhalten. Wie man selbst politisch eingestellt ist sollte nie etwas mit einer Rolle zu tun haben, die man bei zB einem Reenactment einnimmt.
That sucks water damage what a mess I guess people cleaning out their basements come across some war items they didn’t know where there among other things
I was wondering about this. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillaume_(given_name)#:~:text=Guillaume%20is%20the%20French%20equivalent,wille%20%2B%20helm%20(protection). Thanks for the apple green.
Hello - this is going to be a hard liner to reproduce and install. I have to find a way to send out photos of my efforts at restoration. I can tell you that if the wife found me working at the kitchen sink there would be Hell to pay!!!!
Yeah mainly to reproduce since I'd need to find sufficient cardboard for the band, but at some point I will give it a shot. You can send me them via e-mail or on instagram if you want. And haha understandable, luckily my girlfriend doen't mind :D
Nice to see slate grey paint and your nice East German spray gun. I look forward to seeing more about those unused leather liners! Thank you for the video.
Yeah I chose that paint because a lot of later war helmets were in that colour and everyone seems to be doing generic feldgrau.. And thanks, I am working on a video showing all the variations of M31 liners that you can come across. Thanks! Luis
Hello - if you could find a sand blaster that might work faster and better but we have to use what is at hand. I still have a shell out in the garage from the last time we talked to be worked on!
Hi, well it depends, on stubborn paint it would certainly be helpful. On the black Czechoslovak helmets, thinner usually works very well and preserves the patina as well. And yeah, better get to it!
Thank you! The price depends on the configuration (original or repro parts) and what size and model you want. Send me an e-Mail via my contact form on m31liner.wordpress.com Luis
