I have watched this video about 10 times now. Of all the videos on RU-vid about this place none compare to yours! So thank you so much! This is exactly the type of stay and exploration I would like to do. Night time wondering with the streets all to myself here is a dream that I must seize!! And you captured it so well! My quick question: how many hotels (like this one) are on the actual island? And when in the year would it most likely this quiet?
Just came across this but I must say that if I owned that place and gave you permission to go through my motel I would have been a bit upset that you were moving and touching things. Keep your hands off things that are not yours unless they give you expressed permission messing with their things. Cool video though, just be respectful of people’s things.
I did the hike in April of 2023. The temperature was fine, but it was very windy. The person I went with insisted upon hiking around the rim, and, of course, I have a fear of heights. With the wind, every step was an adventure. I’m glad I did it now, but not so much at the time.

A cautionary tale. We wanted to get closer for a photo op. We got off 95 on to a dirt road then onto smaller car tracks. Nearing the dunes, we slowed at a clearing to turn around the tires began to spin and we were hopelessly stuck. We discovered underneath the hard rocky surface was sand. We were very lucky to be able push our suv to escape.
this was not a mass, this was morning prayers which we went to as well on our visit, maybe the highlight of our time there and the singing is amazing, mass in that church is only on Sundays I believe.
Are these structures erected by locals or tourists in recent times? It reminds me of similar structures or heaps of rocks in Europe, but here they are usually hundreds of years old and some even older. Some camera shots look like taken on Mars! Great video and narration! ;)
Many years ago I purchased a mosquito net from Mil-Tec. It is far less intrusive, the face can be seen, etc. I believe it would be effective against flies. I used to cycle a lot in Europe and horseflies can be a problem in the summer months. They are very aggressive and swarms kept chasing me for long distances. I couldn't stop cycling, which sometimes was a problem in the mountains as I had to keep climbing hard no matter how tired I was! ;) I noticed Detol in antiseptic concentration deters them. It has to be applied frequently, maybe every hour or half an hour, but it is cheap and sold in 1L concentrate bottles. Antiseptic concentration is 50ml per 500ml of water, instruction is on the bottle. I noticed flies would briefly land and immediately take off without causing inconvenience and the number of flies would decrease. I think it burns them in such concentration.
Bit of a suddenly ending with pretty much no explanation. The explanation is easily explained - water, or more accurately, the lack of it. The dispute with locals effectively turned the taps off and with it the opportunity to run a Resort and water a golf course.
