Hey! Im trying to fix the flash on my d3100. When the flash is up the camera will focus but never take a photo. Putting it down and turning it off in the settings lets it take photos properly. Theres very little information about this particular problem online so i wanted to ask how you would go about trying to diagnose the problem? I really wish i knew how the firing mechanism worked so i could follow it to pinpoint the problem but the service manjal was no help with that. Thanks in advance! Your video is the reason i had the guts to attempt the repair!
I don't own the 3100, so I cant say exact, however I do own a lots (20 or better...never counted :) ) of DSLR Nikons....tell me about your camera settings and environment during your test? Are you testing in a well lit room, dark room? what is the subject your shooting? What lens are you using, have you tried different lenses if available? Do you have flash assist turned on or off (the red or white light that shoots out of the body), where is your focus point center or auto? What mode are you in or have tried (P,A,M,S)? What setting is your camera set for, for the flash to pop (1/10....1/25....1/50....1/100, etc.), what is your flash set for (red eye, auto, front, rear)? What's the status of the battery (flat/mid/full) when testing, how old is the battery? Do you have another Nikon body to test on? So many things could cause a issue similar to this and it not necessarily a bug in the system. I'll see if I can replicate your issue if there is enough input from you and if I can emulate your environment....now that I think...I just may have the 3100....I bought the wife a camera last year, and that might be it??? ~Jack, VEG
@@VintageElectronicsGeek I've tried it in every mode but Manual mode is what I've tried the most test. The shutter speed can't go past 1/200 with the flash open because the flash can't work with any faster speed. I've tried 3 different lenses 2 are Nikkor afs lenses and one is a Tamron zoom lens. And I dont think I've had flash assist on but when focusing the light in the body does light up. Focus point is in the center but I've tried other focus methods to no success. I think it might be something to do with the flash circuit of the capacitor itself. I don't have a multimeter with the option to test the capacitance but Im tempted to touch the exposed wire to see if I'll get shocked or not
SO WHAT IN HELL HAPPENED TO THE US PENTAGON----WE INCINERATED IRAQ IN THEIR KUWAIT INVASION.. HOWEVER NOW THEY COWER TO IRAN AND RUSSIA. DOES AMERICA HAVE ANY LEADERS WITH, STONES, ANYMORE?
HAHAHA the butterknife joke was awesome. I just got two of these and I am working on refurbishing them. Never thought I would find a video series like this while working on mine.
Hi Gonset users. You may notice the anomalous hissing noise. This probably was a common problem. Now the problem has been addressed and solved. Please read the Facebook Gonset Radio Group.
2:11 did you just... say "1.665 WORKING hours"? I hope that was a slip up because that's Watt hours, not working battery life. That's 3.7v * 450mAh = 1.665Wh. Sorry, not a very good electronics "geek", mistaking Wh for anything other than watt hours...
Glad to meet thee most perfect person in the world who never makes a mistake, your awesome and I'm honored you watched my video! Hope you make my video go viral....so stoked! You'll have to tell me what its like being so perfect! -Jack, VEG
Amazing the amount of false information in the reports and spin from the goverment. Maybe the US and other countries should focus on their on country and by the looks of it its all its going to shit in their countries.
Tell me why I'm trying to recover all my grandfather's vhs tapes who loved elvis and then I find this video with a elvis tune, rip grandpo. thank you for the video
I sure miss listening to Art Bell @ night live here in Vancouver BC. I send my sincere condolences to his family and friends .found him on the a.m. dial in Feb 98 , fantastic ,soon became a night owl . 🇨🇦🪶
Don - I have had a chance to see it in action playing with the amp since this video was posted and it works great! My A/B switch has a center ground position and a few times I forgot about it and parked there and TX'd, the hi SWR light came on and the amp did not TX. I have also had it come on for hi temp as I had been running it with out a fan on it....I now have one on it...it too shut down the amp until safe. ~Jack, VEG
Howdy - 6 meter is active, I have worked local phone both FM/SSB and I have started to play with FT-8 and made a lot of contacts...I also sometimes put a 6 meter rig in the YLs car and talk to her as she buzzes about on simplex. Depending on your area, it may or may not be active, check these cool sites for activity and use the filters to select your band and mode. pskreporter.info/pskmap.html & www.dxwatch.com ~Jack, VEG
The legend has returned :) This thingy looks just like a Matsushita cassette deck, with the cassette mechanism swapped for an 8-track one. And that might actually be what it is. Although I see no Matsushita caps? The nasty purple/blue things. Greets, Wes.
Howdy Wes! Hope all is good on your end! I owned one of these back in the day, always liked it, so when the opportunity came up, I bought it....been doing that lately. ~Jack, VEG
Great video. It appears yours appears to have been baked in the sun. The front panel is a light green. Maybe the LED display or the filter in front has been faded hence the display problem.
It does look like it indeed! I no longer own this device, if it didn't have to few issue I didn't like, ida kept it! However, I still would recommend if you need a wide band freq counter and the budget wouldn't allow for others. ~Jack, VEG
You are very welcomed, glad it helped someone! :) You gonna love what it produces for an older small chip camera, it is one of my favorite cameras! ~Jack, VEG
@@VintageElectronicsGeek I dove deep into these older digital cameras over the past few months and it's been a lot of fun. I started with the Sony DSC-F707 because that was my first digital camera that I always regretted selling when I went into Nikon APS-C DSLRs. When I saw how inexpensive these old cameras are I started picking up some models I'd wanted but never gotten: Sony DSC-F828 & R1 and Nikon 8700 & D200. Then I found some other interesting models to snag: Nikon 990 & 995, Canon Powershot Pro 1, and finally this Sony D770. Many of them have really surprised me with their image quality, especially the Sony F828. It has become one of my favorites to shoot now and it's easy to get into infrared photography with it due to a hack of the Night Shot feature. If you like 5MP and under cameras, check out a Sony F707 if you haven't. It's still a very capable camera and has the fun infrared/night vision capability.
The program change solenoid is drawing a lot of current as shown by the lights dimming when you hit the button Jack. If its not moving far enough to reposition the head to the next track its probably a mechanical issue with old grease. Looking forward to seeing more of this unit!! Take care and all the best, George
Jack you didn't fall of the end of the earth. And the golly woggles didn't get you. Those gooey belts do it every time. Gum up the works especially on 8 track players. Good to see you on Jack. Hope all is well with you and the Mrs.
My main man Jack, so good to see you back in action. Was beginning to think you disappeared from the face of the earth. That or Mrs. VEG would not let you come out and play anymore. LOL Interesting video. Those 8 track players were notoriously picky when they were new and given that both the mechanism as well as the media is getting a bit old, well they tend not to perform as well as they once did. Make sure the foam strips are in place on the tapes themselves, these are usually MIA on old carts. The solenoid should move a ratchet type device which makes the head go up and down. That in itself is a pretty funky setup. Oh and those gooey belts, I haven't seen any like that on an 8 track but several on cassette machines. :)
Life changed, priorities changed! Not sure how often I'll drop a video. Yes, need to learn how to change pads successfully, the service manual did ID that as an issue with track changing. Thanks. ~Jack, VEG
No, it developed another issue that may have been above my abilities and I kinda lost interest....I believe one of the smd IC's went bad, I ordered one but just never got back to it...again, it may be above my abilities. Jack, VEG
I've ordered a new VFD for my 34401A it will arrive around April 12, 2024 and I hope to have a success. The meter seems to be fine otherwise, just the display is very dim... Sigh... but I want to fix it and make it like new.
