Good day, I love history, sewing, and cosplay. That is why I created this RU-vid site, to share my loves and to help educate or entertain anyone who is interested. I majored in History at University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and work as the Director of Education at a history museum. I love sewing and creating dresses from all time periods dancing. I hope you find this helpful, and if you have any questions please ask. I also have an Etsy site, Historical Belle.
Thank you and God Bless.

I have a question. I am working on this dress and my center part is shorter than the sides? How does that work?
@HistoricalBelle
@HistoricalBelle 7 дней назад
Hi, When you mean the center part are you referring to the petticoat? And are the sides you are referring to the sides of the petticoat or the sides of the gown? Are you fitting and wearing the gown over panniers?

Did you follow the size chart measurements? It seems a little big but I wasn't sure if this is how it's supposed to fit.

Yes I did, in this era bathing suits are not tight fitting. They're supposed to be a little puffy in some areas, but the waist is fitted.

You did an amazing job with the outfit. Love all the embroidery! You never cease to amaze me with your sewing ability and skills. And I love it that you "buck the system" and don't always follow the pattern instructions - that makes me feel better for doing the same. 😊 You look lovely in the outfit. Kudos on Steven's jacket, also.

Lovely dress 😻 Actually, the cloth known as muslin in Regency England was different from modern American muslin. It was a fine, lightweight semi-sheer (or very sheer!) cloth.
@HistoricalBelle
@HistoricalBelle 2 месяца назад
Thank you! And indeed, it is difficult to find such fine muslin as they had.
@annemarieskidmore5194

IKEA has some fine white striped and spot opaque cotton curtains which here in the Uk we all use to make Regency dresses from.💕
@historical.isolde7918
@historical.isolde7918 Месяц назад
Yes, that is what I noticed. In the US, cotton calico is often called muslin (in addition, the making of a "muslin", or a mock-up, is what UK and Australia call a toile). A cotton voile is often a good semi-sheer substitute for Regency-style gowns.
@historical.isolde7918
@historical.isolde7918 Месяц назад
@@HistoricalBelle Look at cotton voile as a good alternative. Also, Burnley & Trowbridge usually has a few historical-style cotton muslin's that work if you have the budget.

@HistoricalBelle
@HistoricalBelle 2 месяца назад
Hi, welcome and thank you for subscribing!! The tops of the sleeves of this jacket were called to be gathered in the pattern, but the fabric was so thick I ended up pleating the tops of the sleeves rather than gathering them.

Hi! Thank you for this video! It’s been a huge guide for me as I’ve almost completed my first 1860s dress :) I’m still unsure about underpinnings though- can I ask why you’ve only got one petticoat/no crinoline for this outfit? Was it for mobility purposes as a working woman?
@HistoricalBelle
@HistoricalBelle 2 месяца назад
I am so glad you found this video helpful! Yes, the reason I am not wearing a hoop/crinoline and just a corded petticoat is because it was a hot day and this is a work dress which one would wear to do physical labor, making a hoop/crinoline/many petticoats unpractical.
