I searched for the hostel and the private room now is 1500$ for a whole month, a shared room is 350$, what these people are doing is unforgivable. Airbnbs are also above 1000$ for a house and 500$ on average for a private room, wtf are those prices for fucking indonesia.
Hate when people say COL is why they move abroad. Digital nomad in the Philippines here and choosing this place had more to do with the people, the culture, and the weather. I'm not interested in being the rich foreigner taking advantage of the local economy, telling other foreigners how great it is living in my ivory tower above the poors. The weaker economy here is actually a challenge. Everything is cash only, but no one ever has change. Items are constantly sold out and restock can take days or weeks at grocery stores. Your overall health is subject to much higher levels of risk. You're a constant target for theft or scams. But I didn't move here because it's cheaper, living abroad (specifically in the Philippines) satisfies something much deeper in my life. If you're chasing the digital nomad lifestyle choose somewhere that actually appeals to you and not just your bank account. There's a lot more to explore in the world than just some compound full of grifters selling the latest hype in AI and crypto or stupid red pill coaching services.
Traffic, trash, and inability to walk anywhere, were problems in Bali even 10 years ago when I was there. Obviously, not to the degree that they are problems now, but they were still problems even back then.
When I went to Bali it was before the pandemic, so it was not that busy, I guess I was very lucky. But I'd like to visit again, perhaps going off season is better then. I have to say though near the tourist sights, the instragrammers were annoying. Clicking thousands of photos and when I asked to click one of me, it was horrible! No quality no love in it.
I would love to learn the best transition from a special education teacher to becoming a nomad. I know this is a vast concept, but I’m struggling with what would be profitable and also entail attrition that has some ease.
