What I can tell is that when he shot Nathan Hale many within The Rank and File saw Hale as a War Hero so to find out a War Hero was Executed had to been demoralizing. It doesn't help with Capelli having a Series of Insubordinations with one getting him Court Martialed during his Service. So it wasn't looking good for him should he be discharged from service
