I grew up on the films of the 80s and 90s but when i first saw this scene i thought it looks so well done. Its in black and white but still looks so modern. Im no film expert but is it the acting the cera angles or just the lighting?
My friends and I recreated the airport chase scene at our airport one afternoon in the 80’s if we did that today I’m sure we’d be arrested and put on some security list and banned from flying.
I love Boogie Nights. The first time I saw Star 80 was quite by accident, on a black and white TV chopped up by advertisements. It felt sooo cheap to me, so Made-For-TV, but I could not stop watching. Did not know a thing about Stratton but was a huge fan of Fosse's. TFP.
A vision of hell far darker than Taxi Driver. Those close up shots crank up the Isolation of Cosmo. It voids out the usual drama beats it's really elusive hard to watch the mood off these scenes ect. Definitely one of the great films of the 70s but really won't fit a neo Noir category the flow of its anti drama is totally uncomfortable against narrative. Was badly received in its day now it looks so edgy off centre immersive ensembles.
Just watched to die and live in la on a special showing in Dublin lighthouse cinema, most of the audience was early twenties, it got a round of applause at the end. They don't make them like they used to. R. I. P. William Friedkin.
yeah my 1st screening was the year it came out 1985. Blew my mind so had to move to LA to see those sunsets. The film would turn up at Friedkin retrospectives in LA over the years and Bill would turn up and tell stories. Bill was a cine maniac, his soul will never rest in peace!
How is this film never talked about today? Just the intro alone is captivating and so bare-knuckles L.A. The way Masters just brought everything to a halt like a shadowy maestro. Brilliant!
Friedkin's done, hands down, the best car chases in cinematic history (this film, The French Connection) yet takes it down to brass tacks for this foot chase... from the grandiose LA Freeway car chase to this foot chase, which adds a whole other, more personal layer to the action, he's now + forever the best.
this film it was a bombshell and prime time in the 80's. 2 undercover CIA agents involved into deep trouble against narc forces. The beginning of the end (Rick & Erick)
