My name's Elias Barry and I’m an Air Force officer and instructor pilot on the KC-135. I have 7 boys and have been married for over 15 years. Before I joined the military, I was a music teacher in Arlington, Tx. Teaching is my passion and I strive daily to get a little bit better at it.
In 2011 I started a blog called “Becoming an Air Force Officer” in the hopes I could help others apply to Officer Training School (OTS) for the US Air Force. After I finished that blog, life happened and I focused on getting by. While I’m still slogging though life, I want to get back to helping others through the internet, so here I am. This channel will focus on the USAF, specifically about commissioning.
Thank you for visiting and I hope you found some of this content valuable.
You say they have lots of applicants and it’s competitive yet the recruiter gave me a phone call like minutes after I put my phone number 😂. How is OTS competitive again?
Just took the test and scored 99 on Pilot and ABM, 93 on CSO, 49 on Academic and Quantitative, and 51 on verbal. Now im just waiting on my TBAS score. Hoping for a pilot slot 🤞🏻
Did you ever make a video on what mock tests you recommend? And just to be sure @ 10:30: regardless of the AFSC we want, no one should ever focus on the situational judgement, self-description inventory, and physical science parts of the exam?
1-2 years!? I graduated from college May, 1979. I left for OTS around second week in October. Class 80-03. I was at a small annex near Lackland. It was called Medina. No way I would participate in this process and basically put my life on hold for 2 years and still not get accepted. But I joined at a unique time that the Air Force had a lot of officer openings. I would not do it today. FYI. The rated OTS trainees went to a small base near Lackland 6 weeks earlier than non-rated trainees and received their PPL for FREE. But just another of the endless hoops needed to complete this program.
I wonder what the correlation between AFOQT scores and success in rank advancement are? It would be interesting for someone to do a study on this. But I doubt one could ever have access to this information. Too many surprises?
Goodmorning! I am Argentine, a student of a degree in meteorology and currently taking the private airplane pilot course. I am interested in applying for OTS when I finish my bachelor's degree. Could you help me?
Thanks for this, Elias. I am going to be taking mine soon... Maybe some of you guys here would know, is there any chance in hell to get an age waiver for CSO for someone about to turn 36? Any chance in hell? Even if I aced everything?
Hello! I have really appreciated all of your content and it has helped me tremendously in getting through the AFOQT and applying for an OTS Board. I am trying to enter as a husband and father of 2 as a USAF pilot and would love some insight into what work-family lifestyle has looked like from your perspective. Please let me know in what ways we could connect and discuss!
Help me figure out the age range. Everyone just glosses over it. I’ve done lots of research and can’t get a clear answer. I want to know exactly when the age cutoff applies. Before the pipeline begins, and after phase one and phase two?
Start studying now. Up until you take it. Focus on timing yourself as this exam is more about time management than knowing the material. That said, do become competent in your math, reading and specific material. Leaving questions unanswered can hurt your score but answering them even if you don't will not.
You did great with the video. Especially with the information when u are talking about it. Suggestions, u don't have to pause and show information since we can just pause in UI. Great content. Question: I have a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical engineering and I want to get in for the cyber security officer reserve position. What are the areas of study to focus on for the test?
Good video, but just need to point out: the table at 6:50 is incorrect… 30 minutes individually for table reading and block counting is absolutely ridiculous. And you’re not limited to 7 minutes on each math section. So don’t worry lol
You are given 22 minutes to answer 25 questions on the Math Knowledge section, and 29 minutes to answer 25 questions on the Arithmetic Reasoning section.
Im 23 I work in IT and compete in jiu jitsu and train every day with a 4 year BS and 3 letters of rec 2 from navy officers and im still worried I wont get in :/
I attended AFROTC my freshman year in college. The unit closed and graduated without a commission. Couldn’t get accepted to OTS so went to graduate school in order to attend ROTC. I neither needed or wanted that degree. C’est la vie. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
More than 100 airmen of color have bravely written to me with their HORROR stories dealing with racism, discrimination, bullying, sexual harassment and so much more. A book is on its way and I also plan on revealing full names and ranks to the news agencies. How dare you hurt the people of Puerto Rico and treat us like DOGS!? A1C Markivee - said the N word countless times in a PA office SSGT Horton - would also say the N word and very violent during PT trying to hurt the people he did not like. TSGT Robert Webb- tried to sexually molest me and another girl in my office. Senior Master SSGT Michael Jackson - knew all about these thing. Did nothing Major Brian Maguire - knew all these things, did nothing I finally reach out to MSGT Jones and OSI joins the fray! Your lead civilian in public affairs I caught him recording saying behind my back “he should just buy a woman’s magazine”. They send me to 3 mental faculties and wouldn’t you know…my testimony is invalid! Do NOT join the US Air Force IF you are a person of color.
I just got my bachelors thinking about applying you still plan on it ? I might just get my masters and do Air Force rotc and spread out my masters 3 years bc my school will be free.
@@santanaturner just graduated yesterday. Still planing on joining. I already have my AFOQT scores. I know someone who did their masters and ROTC for 3 years and it worked out well for them.
@@Robiwansenobi Congrats bro we did it. Thanks for letting me know that I will make it my goal in the next few months to find a school I can go to and talking to their Airforce rotc persons, my pops 100% so my school is free not really worried about that part I think it’s the best bet to just use all the resources I have before they’re gone. I’ll come back to this comment and lyk what I do good luck to you on your next steps in the future you’ll be successful.
What happens to people who get selected as rated officers but then fail the flight physical? Do they get kicked to the curb or become nonrated officers subject to the needs of the service?
Hey Barry, I apologize but I didn't understand which tests mimic the bubble and answer sheets that you provided in drobox. Can you help guide me on which practice test I should get in order to use your asnwer key and bubble sheets properly?
I failed the first time and will approach things this way. He is extremely right about the time I know I'll do much better My 2nd attempt. Thank you for providing the resources as well. The bubble sheets help
I am planning to switch over from E to O. I will be graduating from Embry-Riddle this summer. My question is regarding pilot. What section should I really be focus my studies on?
