Excellent job patching the missing wood and everything else. I’ve learned so much watching you. And I don’t care for the look of sap wood showing in the walnut chair.
Can a coat of polyurethane be used on top of these fills? you mentioned lacquer, but the current coat on my floor is a satin poly. I want to try to match that sheen once I have the fill looking about right. Thanks!
I have a few pieces with "nibble marks". The new stretcher looks perfect! But if I were doing it I would probably use the filler as it seems easier for a layman.
The video was extremely helpful, however the chair manufacturer never made a percise joint in the seat, and after preparation to glue up I have alot of movement, what would you suggest, im thinking of a Grove with a shim inserted to spread the dowel for a tighter fit, any help would be appreciated.
Recently subscribed to your channel you remarked on the box in the chest i think that may have been for candles sorry if someone has already suggested this in learning a lot by watching
Thank you so much for this info. and making it easy for us to understand the process. I have a 50 year old chair that my mom gave me and this really helped me to be able to repair the leg. I hope to keep this chair as long as I live.
I know this video is kinda old, but do you have a link to the later video covering the other chair at the beginning? That is the kind I am having an issue with now.
In the middle of fixing a broken chair and had to remove quite a few brad nails to deconstruct. Very useful to see the filler technique, thank you.🙏 🇬🇧
I really appreciate all of your tips, but the one that was new to me was to run the forstner bit in reverse until you are at the bottom of the mortise. That makes sense, but I never thought of it before. Thanks a lot!😊
Awesome 2 part video on this really neat table. Fantastic work! I like seeing how you tackle each issue and hearing you explain the logic behind it. I do have a question, though... I had assumed that the second foot that you turned would have made a perfectly suitable center caster. Is there a specific reason you didn't use it? And the craftsmanship on the millwork and trim in that place is mind blowing. I could look at that all day!
Good question. The center caster was 100% concealed, so no need to add it. I made 2 so I could pick the best one to use... and it gave me an opportunity to test how effective my dust collection prototype is - I measured the dust left behind without dust collection.
@@FixingFurniture Thanks, Scott! Completely make sense. Your lathe dust collection system is a great looking setup, for sure. I really need to make some chips with mine and practice using it more!
Whatever you fix is worth watching since I do canning, knitting etc. Can do blood draws but NO woodworking, thus it is fascinating to me, your knowledge, details and just fine work!
@@FixingFurniture my Hoosier cabinet has an upper and lower tambour door. The lower one is so hard to get working properly. It has a whole lot of hardware mechanism that we should be able to easily slide back and forth that makes the tambour door rise & fall effortlessly.
I bought a new cherry (natural satin finish) dining room set from a build to order company a short while back. I waited 3 months for delivery. When it arrived the legs on a few of the chairs had heartwood glued directly to sapwood as your example here shows. I was not impressed. Not for natural finish, at least not for me. Some really enjoy seeing the contrast, and I actually do if it's executed as a feature. Returned it and purchased an antique mahogany victorian dining table and chairs with ball and claw feet and split pedestal. I'm really happy that happened! On a side note, Thank you for the superb videos and inspiration! I'll be a paid subscriber to your site shortly!
Windsor chair repair please. I bought 6 of them and didn’t realize that when the previous owner made repairs they didn’t get dowels all glued in around the feet area and some dowels fall out of the back of the chair too.
