I wonder what my speed is? I feel like I'm on the higher side of speed, but my irons are 28 year old Callaway X12's and are more lofted. I hit in the 150-160 range but a LOT of height. I guess I will have to watch the driver video.
i use 620mb and have averege 96mph club head speed and still just hit it 160-165yards carry. i could hit my wilson d9forged iron7 about 200yards but it had 5 more stronger loft than my 7 right now, i try to control my balls more and play with a spin
I care a lot. When someone shows me that they hit their PXG Gen 6 pitching wedge 250 I have a mental breakdown and give up on life because of how much better they are than me.
guys that consider hitting into a screen a good judge of distance LOL. Hit on a real course, off of grass , with elevation, wind.. what a bunch of soyboys you screen golfers are
Hi Matt, Glad to find your new channel. I wish you well. My question is, I currently play all my long irons the same distance. Would I get a different result if I change the long irons to the length of my 7 iron. Thank you for the answer in anticipation
First part was big for me. I've only heard about swing catalyst from people who talk about "ground force," and they always talk about the "verticle force." I had a hard time taking that seriously, because I knew from experience, theory, and proprioception that the forces that they call "horizontal force" and "torque" surely are also important. Turns out, Matt confirms this, and he's definitely smarter than almost everyone else in the golf space.
Subscribing bc of this video. Very even analysis. I appreciate that he even explained why ball speed caused height in the power clubs. Most importantly, I like it when people explain patiently why the engineers of golf equipment do what they do, when it conflicts with the opinions of angry internet mobs. Because, at the end of the day, the engineers are almost always smarter than the peanut gallery.
People are always suprised when I hit a 9 iron on a 130 yard shot, but I can hit my driver close to 300. I just learned that I hit my irons MUCH better if I dont swing as hard at them and just swing smooth, its made a MAJOR difference on my 7-pw accuracy and distance control. Don't let ego get in the way of playing your best game. Be the one to make others second guess their shot selection, but dont let it happen to you.
I just went through all this at a club fitting…an easy swing for me, with the right head (T790s), a stiffer and heavier shaft (130g), and an improved loft angle (approaching 20 degrees), generates a 92mph swing, and about 180 yds of carry. Very informative!
Thanks Matt. Currently playing the D9 forged. Can attest to the "shinyness". Kinda wanna give them a scrub with a Scotch-brite sponge. Anyone try that? Think Wilson could have sold a few more of these if they called them D11 and covered up the powerholes.
Great video. To my knowledge, you need to release a new video timely (consistently every week or twice a week) in order to get favored by RU-vid algorithm.
Excellent video showing how to easily evaluate the quality of your 7 iron shot. It would be awesome to see the coefficient for the other clubs, maybe in a table format, for us to use along side our launch monitors while we practice. Thanks again
Outlining the units used in your Formula would be grate. Contrary to what most Americans may think, the world does not measure everything in marshmallows per digestive tract movement
Your feed recently popped up and really liking it. Years ago, spent some some time training to drive my left hip back instead of just pushing up to improve my hip action/clearing. That reduced my early extension (goat hump) and created more SS with what felt like less effort. You're probably the only guy I've seen talk about it and demonstrate how effective this is.
2.4 x SS is the number that was commonly referenced couple decades ago (when I was into this), and what I saw as realistic in real world playing. However, there have been some improvements in ball and club technology since then and 2.5 is possible at higher SS. But one thing stays the same and that is you have to center-face it and have good launch conditions to get anything close to optimal.
I'm getting a bit stiff and creaky, but a few years ago a smooth 7 was 150. I could go 160 or 170, but unless I was getting reasonable amount of practice and play I could not always count on hitting it square. So my advice is to play below your maximum, unless you want to dial it up. Too many amateurs play redline golf at the limit and spray it, or miss hit it.
I play a full set of taylormade stealth HD. I am playing the best i've played and shot 90 yesterday. Improving all the time now i've got irons I can hit!
I’m a 3 handicap in the UK and my driver has never been the most consistent club in my bag, especially at my golf course which is tight and the first six holes are out of bounds on the right. The rest of my game is pretty predictable and I thought if I could be more consistent of the tee it will definitely kick me up a notch so I’ve just bought the 2024 version and fingers crossed it will be a fairway finder missile ❤
Cerebral yet practical and digestible advice here. Supercharged content, Matt. Awesome stuff, makes me want to get a better picture of my swing action using the mats. I agree that the technical side often outweighs plain speed (unless you just have it in your pocket already). Cheers!
Hmm, I’m at about 108 MPH with a driver and 275 yards carry, but I’m typically only carrying a 7i about 155 yards. Will have to take a look at my 7i club speed
