The way you explain things is so much more helpful and easier to understand than other instructors. I like how you broke down what each body part should do in the whole backswing sequence. This should help me a lot. Thanks.

This is gold, Matt. Been playing for 3 years and obsessed with learning and improving. You’ve helped me gain tremendous speed with your videos. This one particularly has helped me figure out a problem with my swing that I’ve been trying to diagnose for a long time. Keep up the great content!

I moved from Toronto to Calgary a few years ago and I just started my first lessons with a local pro. Everything you spoke about in this video is also being taught by my instructor. Working on these fundamentals has made significant improvements to my ball striking. I no longer feel I need to move to stronger lofted clubs to get more distance and I can keep playing my 12-year old AP2s while getting the distance and ball flight I want. If I was still living in Toronto I would definitely be coming to you for lessons, Matt. You are truly knowledgeable.

The second mistake is very similar to what Matt identified as my problem in a one-on-one online lesson I did with him shortly after Golf Liberty launched, and working on this has been a HUGE help in terms of consistency for me. One issue I struggled with after our lesson - and I’m not a coach by any means; this isn’t advice, just sharing something I found in case it’s food for thought for others: I also had a relatively strong grip, and after making this swing fix, the grip was a problem. I was delivering a very closed club face - no loft, big hooks. Neutralizing that grip has helped a ton, but it was a must. There was just no way this could have worked for me without a more neutral grip. Sometimes I still struggle with hooks, but can pretty quickly identify myself letting that grip drift back toward the overly strong side as the cause. Love this video, Matt. Great stuff.
@mitchschwartz71
@mitchschwartz71 3 месяца назад
Interesting, I did a similar lesson with wrist conditions and haven't had any issues with grip. I have a bit of a stronger grip but nothing crazy. I can tell at this point that when I hook or over-hook the ball it's entirely because I let out the angles I've been trying to build and get handsy. Where if I'm able to keep the bowed wrist it actually neutralizes my flight. I think that's because my body reacts to it in a positive manner knowing it doesn't need to make compensations. And I really struggle to have a flat wrist, so I do bow it a decent amount and try to keep it bowed through impact, otherwise I regress into my old mechanics.
@ericbradner6986
@ericbradner6986 3 месяца назад
@@mitchschwartz71 I actually just went back and watched the video you did with Matt because it definitely applies to me as well. One thing I noticed - and this is something I probably need to book another lesson to work on - is my club face is more closed throughout the backswing and transition than yours is. But totally, dumping my angles and getting handy is 100% my other problem! Been trying and trying to stop doing that and Matt’s got me as close as I’ve ever been to eliminating that tendency. Still tends to happen when I really try to go after one … and also now, this time of year, because it’s hard to get outside and practice in the Chicago area so things get rusty!
@mitchschwartz71
@mitchschwartz71 3 месяца назад
@@ericbradner6986 Yea, and I'm sure I still don't do it totally right. I've always struggled with the logo to the back camera feeling even when bowing the wrist. My best swings and contact are when I pause at the top once I've built that structure and then when I finish shoulder high and pretend I've got the hangar on. I half want to make that my regular swing it's been so good compared to a full swing.

Thanks for the teaching content, Matt. I have been watching a fair few instructional videos of late. And you have reinforced most of these all time great teachers' points in this great video. Eg The turn I've always struggled with. The angles of the takeaway. Exactly what you said, you can create a great angle with no power. Flush the ball 15 mtrs shorter than normal. Im going to work hard on the trail arm.Turn and arm extension. Old habits require so much repeated new action to remove. Great teaching matt! Because we know how well you hit the ball. Proof is in the results.. Could you please do a video on settup and balance throughout the swing. I know we all have different centres of gravite, but any tips are appreciated. Some of my best hits are when im falling over forward. 😢. Kind regards.

12:30 God damn thank you Matt this is exactly what I needed to hear I have been struggling with driver on and off contact/speed and launch since I came back from injury the other year, and this is exactly how i would describe how i feel with my lead arm and elbow where it feels like I can't turn and keep it straight enough it only seems to bother me as the clubs get longer. I will have to try this trail arm movement out to improve that. Thanks for the good vid Matt, and also do you plan on selling any online swing analysis in the future I know it would be pretty difficult in terms of the time it would take up.

I have a swing weight question Matt. TSi3, Tensei 1k Pro White 50G TX (60 grams), standard length. I added a Jumbo grip (which I love and decreases hand pain) and now it is C6.5 but the overall weight is 359 G so I do not feel I can add 10-12 grams of lead tape to head to get back to D2 ish. Any thoughts how to fix this, or am I bound to remove the 80Gram grip? I do hit it ok but get the odd issue with face control, but that could be my caveman swing :)

@@skylercutsforth8595 it depends on the person but its ok for the head to move off of the ball a little bit, if you're working hard to keep your head perfectly still then most likely you're going to end up tilting your head toward the target, which is not what you want. most people are going to benefit from feeling like the head moves away from the target a tiny bit

I like your channel Matt, and you were great with TXG, but this is terrible information. Your position demo at 3:29 makes you look like a 30 hcp (which I know you are not). Awful advice. Please stop propagating these terrible "tips" based solely on your opinion. No instructor worth their salt would advocate for those positions. Your head and lead shoulder should not sway back over your back foot. Talk to instructors that use Gears and have actually measured hundreds of tour professionals. All the data is there for you to see; how the legs, hips, spine, shoulders, and head turn, tilt, and extend throughout the swing. Apart from some outliers like Rocco Mediate and his uneducated teacher, Jimmy Ballard, no pro swings like you are demonstrating. The head shouldn't go down and foward on the backswing, not for an iron, and especially not for a driver, in fact, it should stay fairly stable and centered (the ball position changes, of course). On the downswing with an iron, the head can dip a bit and the initial move with the front knee, hip, shoulder will go down and forward for some compression to move the lowpoint more forward. I'm just curious, why do you insist on keeping your rear leg flexed throughout the backswing? This is not an attack, just observations and questions. Keep up the great work and channel! Thanks.
@GolfLiberty
@GolfLiberty 3 месяца назад
It's a drill, so it looks more exaggerated than it would be, obviously no-one needs to sway that much away from the target. People who stay way too forward side biased need to feel that exaggerated position to neutralize what they're doing. And I'm not trying to keep my rear leg flexed it's just a bad habit I have. The rear leg should straighten slightly if pressure is moving well into the backswing.
