Hey, I like pine cones too!! So, what’s the verdict - are you buying one? Would you go for any options that the demo didn’t have - like a diesel heater, for example? What were your thoughts on storage - I noticed your canopy was jammed - anything you could potentially offload to the trailer, you know, if you owned it?!
Pine cones are great. Bucket loads are a bit of a hassle. 😂 Verdict, am I buying one? I have a holiday trailer that I love, so at the moment, no. If I didn't have my current one? Heck yea! It's a lot lighter to tow than my current one. Would be perfect for our road trips. My canopy is full as I'm currently in the process of a truck camper build. So if this Tactical Overland unit was mine, then yes I would definitely have more of my stuff in boxes strapped on this unit and actually in the storage bins and nooks and crannies. Borrowing a unit I am always leary of putting my things in and forgetting them. For other features I think I would still have a portable diesel heater, for the mere fact that the more holes you put in, the more points for the unit to leak. Plus we don't always need it. I've seen other accessories but they don't fit my lifestyle. I can definitely see myself putting my Thule Bike Racks on the roof of this thing. That's the beauty of Tactical Overland, you can adjust it to your tastes/needs. Versatile unit! One thing I would eventually like to see is a more rugged (like this) but taller unit. Maybe one day they'll make it happen! Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video. This teardrop trailer is one I've been looking at due to the additional room, you gain w/o the galley kitchen. I also like that you are cooking near the fridge pull-out. How much height clearance is there between the bed and the ceiling, if you don't mind sharing how tall are you and your wife. Is there enough room to sit up, if you're 5'10".
I'm about 5'8" and my wife is about 5'6", the mattress makes it so there is about 2" of head clearance. The mattress, if you push it back like a couch, will give you an extra 3"-4" of head room. I've seen units where the "lobby" area has kind of a table/desk and people sit at the foot of the bed. Super versatile unit. Thanks for watching!
Francis, what a fun video. Between the first big fighter pike to the line snapper... then that walleye! Your face in that photo was something else. Could see the shock in your face. That was a beauty! What a fun video! Really enjoyed it. P.S.... those meals you had.... wow!!!
That was definitely one of the Highlights of my Ice Season. Was not expecting the sizes on some of those fish. I still haven't fully edited my season ender. Soon though lol. Thanks for watching Dan! Those meals were made by Randy's wife. She as an amazing cook!
Hahahaha Everything in that video is everything that means a lot to me. Family (including friends), Fishing, Food and Fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching! And I hope you are Subscribed!
You did an excellent job explaining our culture. I love seeing others fet to experience my culture. Thank you so much for sharing and helping to spread knowledge. Chi-Miigwetch! P.s. Our people tend to notice our babies actually being soothed by the drum and actually falling alseep while at pow wows. Hopefully your daughter enjoyed it ❤ You have a beautiful family.
This video was only the first gathering we had been to, but we have been back every year since! My daughter quite enjoys the roll call now lol. We have an event in the Philippines that honours the Indigenous people there as well, with drumming and cultural traditions. Chi-Miigwetch! Thank you so much for watching!
It definitely is. I'm no pro but I love just getting out and dropping a line in. Something about scouting and then getting on fish then reeling them in makes me happy. I love sharing the experience with friends. Always makes for a fun time. I love this sport! Thanks for watching! And I see you are an avid outdoorrsman as well. I will sub to your channel. Hope you sub back! Have a good one! Tight lines!
Awesome!!! Loved the video. I have to find a lake to target perch. Havent had much luck finding them at Wabamun (our usual go-to spot) . Good reminder tonpack out what you packed in. Love whem the bite turns on when you're trying to leave, lol makes it so hard to get out of there. Hit me up when youre back to see if we can link up for a fishing trip. 🎣
I love hate when the bite is on and you're just trying to get going lol. First world problems lol. Thanks for watching Dan! And yes you bet! Looking forward to linking up!
Hey revalos, me and my buddy never went ice fishing. We want to really try and just send it lol. We Bought almost everything we need we just don’t know any spots. We want to go to prossper creek reservoir tomorrow but we don’t know if it’s frozen, any idea if it’s frozen? Also great video would like to catch some fish like this!
Hi @ictofu8166 !!! Thanks for watching! I am actually currently in the Philippines right now so I am not 100% sure if the reservoir is fully frozen. With the recent -40 weather I am sure it is okay, but don't take my word for it. The best bet is to get out and drill some holes. You'll get a better idea once you're there. And the best way to go, is just to go. I've learned a lot, forgetting things and taking it next time. A bit trial and error. You guys will do fine lol. Just make sure to check your surroundings and see if anyone else is on the ice. Tight lines you guys! Thanks again for watching and don't forget to Subscribe! When I'm back I'll be out on the ice again. PS lots of lakes have perch!
@@therevalos thank you so much for the quick response and help. I will definitely subscribe. Since we are new to ice fishing. What would be the best bait or lures to use?
@@ictofu8166 it really depends on what you are trying to catch. In Alberta lakes I use tubes for Lakers and jus minnow and jigs for burbs, walleye and pike. For trout and pan fish like perch, I use small hooks and maggots. Open that helps you get started! Tight lines!
Totally was a good idea to move around. Glad we did. There are definitely growing amounts of Alberta creators. Can't wait to cross paths with more! Thanks so much for watching! Don't forget to Sub! I'll do the same!
@@therevalos Yup glad the move worked out- it’s a lot of work to pack up and be willing to relocate. I’ll sub for sure! Happy to support another local creator 🙌🏻
I like the hole covers. We just fish in a pop up ice house can you buy those separately? I’ve been ice fishing my whole life and been looking for something like these for safety with the kids! We have all stepped in a hole 1 time or another and it almost ruins the trip. Awesome videos man thanks
Hey! Thanks for watching! I picked these at Cabela's. Decently priced and super sturdy. When I tent fish I made sort of a hatch in some plywood and foam tiles, with a door you can pull out and my wife could get her feet off the ice ... I try to mark holes or cover them when I'm not actively fishing. Thanks again and appreciate the watch!
Hi Francis! Nice to see you on the ice. Haven't fished Sylvan ever. I plan on going back out Saturday to Wabamun if I'm brave enough. The cold front is coming in with a fury! That first trip... I always forget stuff, too. The first trip is always about ironing out the kinks. Haven't heard from Huy in a while. Hope he's ok. A good trial run indeed. Nice to get one perch up and a few bites. Thanks for the video! 👋
I have more trips that I recently edited, so stay tuned for that. Just getting out on the ice was nice. I needed to forget things because the next few trips went a lot smoother lol. Huy is good. Being a dad and family man. I hope I get to link up with you on the Ice this season. Thanks for watching Dan!
Francis, what a bummer about your go-pro! Didn't you lose one ice fishing once? I've never fished that lake very much. Randy was off to a good start. You stuck it out and were rewarded eventually. The double was awesome to watch.
Haha I lost a DJI Osmo Action down the hole last year, retrieved it but it failed. I have tethers and straps all over my new GoPro lol. Randy was kicking my ass but then that spot we ended up toward the end of the day came through in the clutch. I like that lake. Hopefully get to see you out and finally get a formal introduction. I will be gone the next two weeks but will be back for more Ice Season toward the end of January. Thanks for watching Dan! Stay tuned for more Fishing Content! Cheers!
It looked fantastic, minus the choppy waters. Sure, it looks like a great place to vacation, though. Hey man, why do you have to be such a dad, lol. Let the kid eat wafers secretly by the stairs, haha. Thanks for the video, Francis.
Lol. It was great to hang out with the parents before their big move back home. Its a super nice place. Will eventually go back. Lol someone's gotta keep grandpa and baby honest. Ill let it slide. Thanks for watching Dan! Nice to read your comments brotha. See you on the hard water!
Thanks for the sub and the watch. I subscribed to you ages ago from my other channel and just now on this one. I followed your build. Helped me decide how to lay mine out kinda. We should definitely link up. With the weather lately though, I think I'll be tenting it for a bit. Sylvan, Gull and Buffalo are usually my go to because I live close to there, but willing to venture out. Lemme know when you wanna fish!
That's what I explained at the beginning of the video. That I was so shocked that my wheel came off that I didn't film the whole thing because my nerves were going. I was freaked out that such a routine thing as pulling off my shack off the ice could have gone so wrong. Plus my family was with me. But thanks for watching anyway!
I think a big buddy heater could heat the whole thing. A regular buddy would only take the edge off. We have a diesel heater in there, and it fights with the wood stove. The diesel heater can heat the whole shack no problem. Is the wood stove necessary? Not really but I like the heat it gives. It's just a pain sometimes to have to reload it in the middle of the night. It's a nice dry heat. For just a tent, I don't mind just running the propane heater with a vent or window cracked and a C02 monitor close by. It's a bit of a wet heat (condensation) but it's quick and in a tent it's a bit wet anyway with heat and ice. Hope that kinda helps. I just like the wood stove cause my wife and little girl can prop the stove open and feel like we're camping in the shack and roast marshmallows. Thanks for watching!
glad everything turned out well and dont let that stop you ice fishing ...but one suggestion from your video (from what i saw) GET "ALL TERRAIN TIRES" (like BF Goodrich K02's or Toyo Open Country A/T III,etc)....those all seasonal tires you have on in the video wont pull you out of anything...keep those tires/rims for the summer and go invest in some aggresive tires for the winter on the black rims if needed
Thanks for the suggestion! I have KO2's on order right now. Appreciate the advice. Aaand I will NEVER stop ice fishing lol. It's in my blood. I love ice fishing. All things considered... This was a very "minor" setback. Thanks for watching! Glad people are interested in watching things like this!
In all honesty, there wasn't really anything super crazy this year. At least that I saw. I saw friends at K Days and Stampede eating ketchup Ice Cream, but again nothing like that at Westerner Days. Maybe next year? Thanks for watching!
