Watch family and friends react to movies and shows, then review them! We are a rare channel with different generations that are emotionally invested in the movies and shows we watch. Generations include: The Silent Generation, The Baby Boomer Generation, Generation X, Millennials, Generation Z.
We have a friendly online community full of enthusiasm, knowledge and a strong passion for many fandoms we watch.
Watch hundreds of our videos to movies and shows we've watched for the first time over the years. Most blind reactors here are a rare breed with absolutely no former knowledge of the content they watch so their reactions are pure with no outside influence. (Meaning they haven't seen or heard any spoilers beforehand).
There are a lot of factual inaccuracies in this show, but anyone criticizing it for that needs to remember that this is a dramatic miniseries, not a documentary. Nonetheless, this show did an exceptionally good job of being reasonably true to the science behind the disaster, while also simplifying it enough for average audiences to understand it. Saying that the control rods have graphite tips is one example of that. In reality the "tips" were a separate 4 meter long section of the control rod, so when the control rods were fully withdrawn, most of the water in that channel was displaced by graphite, but the details of that are not important to understanding the basic concept of the quirk that inserting a control rod would briefly increase reactivity. Legasov's answer of "because it's cheaper" when asked about this is another example. That's a very concise summary of the entire RBMK design, which starts with low enrichment fuel, which leads to using graphite as a moderator, which leads to the positive void coefficient, instability at low power levels, and so on. The "fatal flaw" stemmed from this. Because water absorbs neutrons, if the area occupied by the control rod filled with water, it would work against the operation of the control rod (replacing one neutron absorber with another), and so, the control rods were designed to displace that water with graphite, which made the control rods more effective. When the control rods were fully withdrawn, the graphite section would sit in the middle of the core displacing most of the water in that channel, with the exception of about 1 meter at the top and bottom. That 1 meter gap was in part due to the size of the core, which allowed for differing levels of reactivity in different areas at the same time (and was also one reason for the lack of a containment building) With the Chernobyl disaster, reactivity was higher in those 1 meter gaps than in the rest of the core, with the water in those areas acting as a neutron absorber. When they shut the reactor down, at the top of the core, the water was replaced with the boron section of the control rods and reactivity went down, but at the bottom of the core, the water was replaced with the graphite section of the rods and reactivity went up. As that happened, water flashed to steam, channels ruptured, pressure in the core rose, and eventually became high enough to blow the lid off. The modifications they ended up making to the remaining RBMK reactors were not terribly complex. They increased the length of the graphite "tips" to prevent water from entering the lower section of the control rod channels, increased the speed at which the rods moved, and increased the level of fuel enrichment. There were also a number of other improvements, like wider safety margins and more responsive monitoring systems, but essentially just having longer graphite "tips" could probably have prevented the Chernobyl disaster. The "because it's cheaper" answer also is at the root of why those modifications were not made earlier, despite knowledge of the positive SCRAM effect, and even a couple of prior instances in which it nearly resulted in disaster. Instead, they just revised the manuals. But the manuals were vague and there wasn't a strict culture of safety in place. As with most disasters, Chernobyl was the result of several bad things all aligning at the same time, the cumulative effect of which we are still dealing with today.
I chose ya'll because I didn't want to watch some young people who had no knowledge or perspective on the Manson cult and this 66-year-old was not disappointed. Thanks for the company.
Small correction from someone who's family owned slaves. This movie as you said is over the top and of course it is an exaggeration. The vast majority of slaves were not chained and some were even treated fondly by regular people. My family name is Hicks and you will notice a lot of blacks in the south share the white name Hicks. My great great great grandfather (yes slavery in america ended that long ago) has no records of anything on the scale of how vile this movie depicted as if it was commonplace. My great grandfather told me of his upbringing with slaves and has told me of all of this. He likened it to how one would acquire a wife and their labor as an obligation considering their role in society back then. Not having to pay taxes and many of which had communal houses is true but they were nowhere near as bad as depicted in this movie. I am not saying don't feel sorry for the few that had to go through slave owners who were abusive, this of course existed but was less than .001% as less than 1% of confederate states owned slaves considered it was illegal in any republic states. Sadly as of today, in this current year slavery is much larger than it ever was back then even without accounting for population. There are more slaves in America today than ever before in the form of women who are human trafficked. Outside of the USA more traditional slavery is still practiced in many countries of Africa, Egypt and China. The slaves today sold in Africa are more mistreated today than any black man bought in America.
Finn told Emmet he was the hero, and Emmet moved on the table. Hearing you reminisce about Lego before the show is why the show exists. Watch any of them, they are generally great.
I'm sure I'm the thousandth person to say this but a lot of the inspiration for Star Wars came from Dune. The desert planet tatooine, Jabba the Hutt Baron Harkonnen the chosen one Kwisatz Haderach, spice mining, and of course the force, were heavily influenced by Dune. I'm not saying this is bad Dune was heavily influenced by Lawrence of Arabia. And on and on, but having read the book before Star Wars came out I couldn't help but notice the similarities. 18:35 everyone in the movie is human there are no alien species at least in these movies. Although the year is 10,000 it's actually 20,000 years in our future, so humans have diversified a bit and changed but they're still humans originally from Earth. They just live on different planets now.
31:19 Mark! 63K Views + Mine! 😎 2.2K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! 😊 Notes: This is a first, movie-wise, in which both Lana Lang and Lois Lane share the same hair color! And as you will soon see, even Alexander "Lex" Luthor is a ginger/redhead! 😮 This time, Lois was allowed to be smart enough to figure out who the titular character is, on purpose, on her own initiative, as a part of her career/profession/job, rather than by accident or a reveal. 😎 In the comics, "Guardian" was or is a man that wore a "Superhero ™️" suit too. Sky Blue and Brass colors or Turquoise Blue and Bronze, depending on the artists. No hint of a Krypto or Supergirl. 😮😢 Jimmy Olsen? I guess he's in the next movie.
As a child we were studying this era and we had a 2 day field trip. One was to watch Schindler’s List in the theater and the next day to visit the Holocaust Museum. I think every child should study this time in this way.
Shut up kim, your voice and your unnecessary children "shock" ruin the whole reactionvideo. You screaming and jumping so much next to your mother that one day she gonna have a cardiac arrest because of you. Grow up
Мне нравится реакция бабушки на финальную сцену расправы, такая невозмутимая по сравнению с более молодыми зрительницами. Она определенно видела некоторое дерьмо в жизни, что ее этим не удивить😂
Oh my god the edit on this, every single great moment is cut to show a whatever moment. Miranda's intro, Miranda's talk with Andy, Miranda's monologue about cerulean... Dude you guys need to get better at editing.
You made a 13 minute reaction video to a movie..... You skipped the whole d@mn thing. To top it off the last 30 min of your video is 100% pointless. A reaction video is supposed to have reactions, not to just skip everything then talk about pointless topic for 30 min. Lame. Thumbs down, un-subscribed.
To this day, all civilian ships that took part in Operation Dynamo are allowed to fly the St. George flag on a pike pole as a badge of honor, which is illegal for other civilian ships as it is the insignia of a fleet admiral.
These are some grown-ass women doing the reaction and they still don't know what they talking about when I first seen The Exorcist I was 11 years old I was born 1971 and I seen the whole movie non cut version and I still was able to understand the movie why does the Young Generation always say the necklace that the priest what's the wearing is a curse when it's not the demons couldn't get inside the young priest he was physically too strong when they was wrestling on the floor and the real priest said come into him but the demons couldn't because he had that medallion so the demon ripped it off his neck and that's how the priest got possessed and he fell to the floor and when he got up his face was real pale what yellow demonic eyes but the young priest fought the demons from inside and jumped out the window and he was still alive when he was laying on the ground later that year the demons came back and possessed the young priest there's a lot of things that I know about this movie in the young people today don't understand like when the young priests was visiting his mother in the old Home Hospital the young priest didn't put her there it was the alcoholic uncle because a young priest said couldn't you put her someplace else in the uncle said who got that money for that you call me crazy but the uncle when he said that he had a weird smirk on his face I think the dude was jealous of his own nephew when he was a boxer and Reagan what's playing with that Ouija board for months not weeks
