Nicely done Gavin! I like color and have most walls white, but each room has one accent wall with some kind of color, be it wood, tile or paint. Also a need cabinets in my kitchen because I need more storage for stuff and all I see with open shelves are more things to dust! 😅 But in the end, all that matters is that you and your family enjoy your space. After all, you have to live there, I don't! I hope you and yours make many more happy memories there!
Ignore the naysayers…layers in decor can create more warmth but layers can come with time as a result of lived experiences. I love what you’ve done. White is a great canvas to start with. I actually like the circular light fixtures and think they help bridge the mid-century vibe to the present. For what it’s worth, my dad made a living from collecting toys…consider putting that Nerf gun under glass in its original packaging 😉. Same with any collectibles. Looking forward to see your upcoming projects.
I like it ! Will be even better in the future as you get more furniture and decorating. The office was my favorite. It really had character! By the way, do you have Swedish ancestors? Your last name sounds Swedish !🇸🇪
Don't like a pool table right when you walk in , reminds me of a frat vibe. Would look better in another room like a family room, office etc. Some nice changes in the rest of the house.
Sorry about your Grandma Lovie 🩵. She must have been a cool lady because the house has such a nice vibe to it. I love how bright and open it is now, with the dark walls in the office as a contrast. I like the wrought iron too. You could maybe powder coat it black or dark bronze in the future. 🤔
I think you did a fine job. Your choices are clean and sleek. I wouldn’t mind them at all. I don’t think the original house had that much character. Some spindled areas, but they weren’t particularly attractive. I like a mostly separate kitchen because I have a lot of appliances and cookware as I am a cook and baker, but your kitchen with the pantry would work well. The only thing I don’t care for, but appreciate your affection for, is the pool table just as you enter the house. Very frat house-ish. As long as it never smells like stale beer, you’re good. Well done. Looking forward to what changes will be made to the wrought iron outside.
Great Review! Well done, sir! I have been driving my new 2024 Raptor for two weeks and love everything about it. I have the best-looking and best-performing truck in my town of 25,000. So many compliments from people. They want one.
Pocket doors would work for the primary to give you privacy whenever you want it and hidden in the walls whenever you don’t. Nicely done renovation! Hopefully you make a garage makeover video, you can raise those door entrances and get a taller door. Look into a roll up door if you’re thinking about doing a 4 post lift, will give you extra space.
I really sorry for the loss of your granny, but that´s life men, about the house, it turns out beautiful after the renovation, i hope you enjoy it for many years, greetings from Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico
Yes, in the previous video, I mentioned that replacing the windows and removing the bars was important to me. We hit some hangups, and I still have the bars because the original windows have yet to be replaced and are basically worthless in terms of home security. Once they are replaced, the bars will come off at the same time. I can’t stand them!
Hello from Georgia! I'm a new subscriber. I'm a 75 yr old widow and I've always enjoyed home renovations. I love the bell you kept in the kitchen and I love that you share your memories & talk fondly of your grandmother . I love the backsplash in the kitchen. Maybe the ceiling fan in the living area should have been a flush mount? I agree with you about the vanities. I love you went with white walls. Love what you have done so far. how lucky you are to have such a nice garage. We had a huge garage at our last house. It would hold four cars, but it was drive under and I hated the steps. I moved after my husband passed away to a ranch house, no steps. Keep up the good work, a little at a time! Are those Belmont cabinets, metal or wood?
Gen X chiming in! So, while it may not be everyone’s cup of tea (taking down walls etc.) you did exactly what your grandmother said to do and made it your own! You struck a perfect balance between updating it and holding onto a lot of memories through pieces of furniture throughout the home. The MCM mixed with modern furniture is perfect too! Great job!
Your house is spectacular! What a beautiful tribute to your grandparents and to your family. It's just beautiful. (I especially love your white appliances in the kitchen. I'm so over stainless steel.)
It’s ugly and doesn’t suit my taste or the rest of the home. This is my house now, and it’s my turn to make new memories here. Not everything needs to remind me of my grandparents, nor should it. Life moves on, and I want this space to reflect me.
How come you did not get rid of the step down to your living room from the dining room and make it one level only? Pocket doors to the bathroom in the master bedroom would be good.
The front door is at the step-down level, and the house is built on a concrete slab, so raising the floor would have been cost-prohibitive. There are studs in the wall supporting the glass door to the shower, so pocket doors were not an option for the primary bath. I’ll probably just put in French doors again when I upgrade all the doors to the house next year.
Don’t feel bad about the house being bigger than you need! There’s something really beautiful about keeping a home within a family! I feel like ppl don’t appreciate multi generational memories in a specific place. I feel like you’re going to love and cherish that home differently than an outside buyer! Best of luck and love that you’re keeping the home within the family!
