Hi! I'm Gena. This plant channel was brought to life to share my experiences as a plant parent, with other plant lovers, here in the USA and around the world. Let's be plant friends :). We can share our joys and, let's face it, sometimes failures, and learn from one another. I live in the very dry and very beautiful state of Colorado, in the USA. Because of the dry weather, and my desire to keep things as simple as possible, I "try" to limit my houseplant collection to those plants that I can easily care for in my climate. Some of my favorites are: Hoya, Dischidia, Anthurium, Rhipsalis, Succulents, Cacti, Carnivorous Plants, Scindapsus, Begonia, and Syngonium. That's a lot right? I have a plant addiction LOL.
I am also currently having a love affair with terrariums and building terrariums in glass jars.
My goal is to bring you planty content (at least once a week), that "leafs" you with a smile on your face :). Thanks for being here!
Love that your propagations are already in soil ... makes it easier to acclimate. Fairly new to your channel and shop, so excuse this likely repetitive question: how do you feed your starts, if at all? I don't remember seeing Osmacote-style granules in *my* Pink Trellis pots I got a couple of weeks ago. Thanks Gena
Hi, Kathleen!!!! The soil I use is a very nice rich soil (Fox Farm ocean forest) which has worm castings and other great stuff and then I use a very light liquid fertilizer, same brand Fox Farm, suitable for seedlings/starts. I have really great success with that combination :). Thank you!!!!
Hi Kyra!!!! I think it’s one that likes water. I have my mother plant in Pon so it’s always wet. Seems to be a lot like serpens as far as care. Higher humidity and not letting it dry out seems to work for me. My decipulae is getting so big but I haven’t chopped it yet. Still not ready to. But I know I’ll have to do it before too long. I have no ETA for when it will be available in my shop 😊.
@@ThePinkTrellis Thanks Gena! Maybe i'll move the teng to pon. It's really going downhill fast! I understand about the other one. I see it in the background and it looks stunning!
So many beautiful plants. The begonias that I got from you is blooming beautifully. Will you be selling any clumping syngoniums I have been wanting the variegated fishtail but I really don't have room for.😊😊😊
Hi, Lynn!!!! Thank you!!!! I know you already have the maria. I JUST chopped up my milk confetti and that one is more of a clumping variety. I'll have those eventually. Trying to think of what other clumpers I have. Oh the green spot is more clumping than climbing but I haven't chopped at that one yet. I'll probably do it eventually. It's sort of slow growing. I guess for now just the milk confetti coming soon. :) Have a great weekend!!!!
Such nice plants! I wish I could have a business like yours, even if you must be working real hard! Keep it up! This time my favourites are the Dischidia philippinensis and the H. burmanica too and your face when you find out that they have peduncles LOL! 🤩😘
Thank you Cassandra!!!! It's good work. Really it's my dream job. I've always wanted to have one of the following: My own pet store, my own ice cream shop (cute little old-fashioned ice cream parlor), my own plant shop. Hehehehe I was shocked when I noticed them. I think this must be that plant's blooming time of year :).
Hi Gena! You know I could order $100 every week! So many I want from your shop…..but need to cool it for a bit! Sending love your way always! Love tina
Happy Friday Gena🙋🏽♀️. Your hair is cute🪞. Your green shirt in the foreground of your beautiful plants is giving off holiday vibes ✨️ 🎍😊 Thanks for the shop update. Enjoy your weekend.
Happy Friday Diane!!!! Thank you!!! Hehehe...I walked into Lowe's the other day and was greeted with Christmas trees and Halloween. I was so confused LOL. But I admit it got me excited for all the upcoming holidays :). Have a great weekend as well!!!!
@@megandbellable thank you! Some of the embroidery pieces I have done, and some were purchased. I’ll try to remember to sneak some of them into my videos 😊.
Ah I feel you Gena. We’re all just slogging through this week, even the dogs are mopey. I think we’re supposed to be migrating with the geese. 🐦✈️ Your plants are beautiful.
Hi, Mandy!!!! What a surprise to see your name pop up...I just recently subscribed to your channel!!!! I'm in my cacti phase of life LOL and I came across your very first video (succulents and cacti). I've been enjoying your videos!!! Speaking of the geese we are seeing more and more of them down here. It is definitely feeling like Fall. Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting :).
Beautiful collection Gena! Had 29 African Violets when I was 12…loved them! Haven’t had them since…maybe soon. Kinda sad about your purge but I guess it’s necessary to avoid burnout.
wow...that's a LOT of AVs!!!!! I bet they displayed so beautifully together. I think I have 13, not including props. The purge was a very good thing for me. Don't worry...I still have PLENTY of plants :D. Thanks Nina!!!!
Hi Gena! I woke up early this morning to watch your houseplant tour! Change of season is hard for me too and at least you have the will to get rid of some plants….I always talk myself out of it but the new house is going to be a challenge unless I set up my grow tent in the basement which I have not tackled yet! Still do not have my curtains up and so my hanging baskets are all in the basement hanging from nails! I have so much to organize but trying not to panic! At least you have a good local support for your plant sales as well….love your Peperomia Kimnachi or something…forgot about that plant…..your Syngoniums look so pretty and your begonia cabinet looks like a Steve’s leaves postcard! So nice to have the cabinets…..your haworthias var are amazing and look so nice! The problem is that you are so great at growing all the plants! He he he….good job keeping a short tour and I enjoyed it as always….and all your cute decor everywhere! Love your new haircut! I need one so so bad and the girls do too! Big long hugs and I know you’re busy but we love you and all your plants and we support you!! Talk to you soon! Love tina
You are so sweet!!! Thanks for watching!!!! Ohhhhh....can't wait to see your grow tent set up!!!! You are going to LOVE having it. Don't let yourself get too overwhelmed with setting things up. The plants can wait :). I can sorta wait for that tour LOL. Thank you so much again for everything. Love you and the girls. ~Gena
You have so many beautiful plants that it's hard to pick a fav. I really like the Begonia, African violets, and the pings. Your haircut looks really nice, I noticed it immediately!!
Thank you!!! I will definitely do an update on how things have changed! I still have things I'm trying to sell but I think maybe not this coming Sunday but the following Sunday I'll have that update video for you guys :D.
Hi Gena, I totally relate to the sentiment of needing to make changes. I never thought I would be saying this. I have a life long love of growing and keeping plants. Well I was recently hospitalized which gave me a reality check. Sometimes its being forced to take a step back from whatever it is we're doing that gets us to take notice. I am definitely on a plant no-buy and definitely on a mission to downsize my collection. I am finding that "the jungle look" is a cluttered "noisy" look... more suited for the outdoors rather than indoors.
I could definitely declutter even more but I'll see how this goes for awhile and I'll decrease even more if I find it necessary. I miss living in a place where I can keep most of my plants outdoors all year. It makes a huge difference. Even my Hoyas could live outside all year when we lived in southern California. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences on this :). Have a great week!!!
Previously I posted a comment before watching the whole vid and I think by now you got rid of a bit of the many many plants, but the whole arrangement actually looked good although very crowded and you definitely have the green thumb! Such nice and diverse plants! Congrats! 🤗 I love the cats too, I have one myself! 🥰
Crowded or cluttered are great words to describe it. Things are way more open now, I even have some open windows!!!! Which is what I really wanted. And open floor space which makes it so much easier to vacuum LOL. The plants I do have still are back to feeling like part of the decor rather than a collection. My main "collection" is in the grow tents and I think that's how it should be, for me. I appreciate you being here and commenting. Thanks so much!!! :)
It is the time for change! Your hair is lovely! I have some p!ants ill be rehoming soon - gotta make some room! The compacta variegata is a wish list plant for me though...can't imagine wanting that one gone! But maybe if I had 325, I'd be a bit more picky 😉
Thank you so much!!! Rehoming was the best thing I could do at this moment. All have gone to great homes too. So many lovely people have been through. The compacta variegata is listed for sale but hasn't been picked up yet. I'm only selling that one because I have a second even larger one in my bedroom that I am going to keep. Otherwise, I would be keeping the one in the living room. I just don't need two :). Thank you so much again!!!!
I enjoyed this plant tour !! Your home is lovely. The plants are beautiful. The terrarium is a work of art . Your succulents make me want to start collecting some for myself. The Pink Trellis is definitely a standout channel ❤ Thankyou Gena 🙏
Thank you Pamela...so kind. Succulents are little bundles of joy hehehe....seriously though. I love that they don't grow super fast which means they stay on the smaller side for a LONG time. At least for me they do. Thank you so much again!!! :).
@@pamelakern2849 I would recommend looking at a local nursery or Lowe’s/Home Depot at their succulents and choosing one that you like. The color might be plain now but over time, with bright lighting, it can color up beautifully. That’s part of the fun with them for me 😊.
@@ThePinkTrellis I had to finish watching this morning I Love the Rhipsalis Clavata. Those domes are really neat. Looks like the African violets are also loving them. The syngonium Lance leaf is such a pretty one. That is a whole lot of plants. You know how I have been whining about the plant overwhelm . I think I am finally getting the numbers down and plants arranged in a way they are easier for me to care for. Last night I had a great hanging plant idea and I can not remember what it was this morning. Bummed. I hope the thought comes back to me.
Hi! I bought it on Etsy from The Green Escape. So I guess it's possible they messed up...hopefully not! Either way I enjoy that one and decided to hang onto it. Thanks for pointing that out :).
Hi Gena, absolutely love your hair. Thank you again for taking us around your home to show your lovely plants. I enjoyed listening to your ideas of removing or relocating some of your plants. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Have a great week ❤
I <3 your hair. It is gorgeous (as you are). I am going to drop off that hoya (silver wilbur gray) for you as a gift, you can add it to your new one for a fuller plant! <3 Thanks for all you do to bring happiness into my life!! <3 I used to belong to two societies in Florida. The Orchid Society of Central Florida and Polk County African Violet Society. I love your African violets. I never knew you collected them!! So cool!! <3
Hi Gena! I love your hair! I get what you mean about the jungle vibe. A lot of small pots makes things seem more cluttered. I am able to leave most of my plants outdoors year round. I only have a few inside, really just because I don't want to feel cluttered. I do think in general I like the look of fewer, larger pots of plants, rather than more smaller ones. The exception, of course, is your succulent shelves. They are perfect!
Yes!!! Clutter is the best way to put it. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the cluttered look. I have opened things up and now it feels like the plants are a part of the decor again as opposed to a collection. I am LOVING it again :D. Ahhhh...yes. The succulent shelves and the cacti area, including the Rhipsalis shelves don't count. They can be the "clutter". And plants in cabinets don't count either LOL. On a side note....I can vacuum so much easier now :D:D:D:D:D. Hardly had to move anything out of the way.
Thank you!!!! I think I either moved or sold all the plants I mentioned in this video and a few extras. It has made a world of difference for me. Everything feels lighter :D.
The new hair lovely, you he have soo many🌿all beautiful, Sometimes we go have to let go of some The begonias are ✨,love the rex ..never boring ... 💚🌿🍀🌵💚
Haircut looks good and you are so much growing into your new activity! It’s Totally understandable that you are going through some burn out, take a rest and start afresh! 😅❤
Thank you Cassandra!!! I cleared out a few things and it has made a world of difference. I probably still have more than the average person lol, but I definitely feel like I can breathe a bit easier now :). Thanks again!!!
Your hair is gorgeous, we both agree Jen's favorite begonia is the escargot. Mine is the Madame O'Reilly. I saw that one and I had to add it to my collection as well as the Dorian Gray. I can understand wanting to downsize I look around and think the same thing I received my way of Bella and she is so beautiful. Thank you so much.😊😊😊
Hi, Lynn and Jen!!! Two great choices :). My dorian gray doesn't grow very fast. Does yours? I have a propagation of it too, from my original plant, in the grow tent, and it also is kind of a slow grower compared to some of the other Begonia in my collection. I downsized just enough to feel comfortable again :) So glad bella arrived safely and that you love it!!!! Thank you for the hair compliment. I really love my new cut!!!
Hello Ginna. Well, you down sizing & all I done propagated my ginny. Let me know when you want to trade. I would love to trade with pink princess if it is possible 😅. But there is no way for me to get off hold of you only here & your shop. All though I'm Facebook. Have a great day. You should join plant swap. If you have one on your Ariea ❤👌👍
Hello Anita! Is your ginny ready to go? I could totally do a pink princess trade. You can email me at thepinktrellis@gmail.com. I've downsized a few plants but I still have a ton LOL.
GM Gena! Funny you’re talking about changes. I’m going through the same thing, purging plants that don’t bring me joy anymore & also redesigning my plants in each room. I agree, I think it’s the autumn mood swing. ❤ your haircut; great choice with the layers. Enjoy your day!
