Retirement is calling and we are in the process of finalizing our plans to move to Portugal. Join us in real time as we work through planning, preparing and executing stages of this ultimate adventure. Come along with us as we discover the beauty in life!
I'LL LEAVE SOME TIPS ABOUT PORTUGAL. IN 1974 WHEN PORTUGAL LEFT FASCISM, THERE WAS 66 KM OF MOTORWAY! TODAY THERE ARE 3300KM! FADO AND TRADITIONAL PORTUGUESE MUSIC, BUT THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF FADO, TRADITIONAL AND COIMBRA, THE GUITARS ARE DIFFERENT!
I’m going to look into this!! I heard the Fado in Coimbra last week just by chance. I’m still trying to get to the library there and we haven’t even seen Porto or the wine region. Portugal has so much to offer!
@@KeeneAdventures AND I'M FROM THE PORTO AREA, IN PORTO THERE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOKSTORE IN THE WORLD, WHERE 1 ENGLISH WRITER LIVED AND FREQUENTED IT, WHO WROTE 1 BOOK THAT GAVE RISE TO 1 FAMOUS H.P. MOVIE.
GREAT. THERE IS 1 PORTUGUESE BROWSER THAT I LOVE! FERNAO DE MAGALHAES! HE WAS THE FIRST EUROPEAN TO MOVE FROM THE ATLANTIC TO THE PACIFIC, AS HE WAS BAPTIZED AT THE TIME. IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT THE EARTH IS ROUND, 500 YEARS AGO! BUT STILL TODAY THERE ARE THOSE WHO SAY IT IS SQUARE!
HELLO. IN THE CITY OF PORTO, IN RIBEIRA THERE IS 1 EMBLEMTIC BRIDGE THAT PEOPLE CALL, THE DOM LUIS I BRIDGE, WHICH DON'T MEAN KING, BUT AS THE INAUGURATION DIDN'T APPEAR THEY TOOK THE (DOM) OFF AND JUST THE NAME LUIS WAS LEFT I IS WRITTEN ON THE BOTTOM BOARD! VERY NEARBY THERE IS 1 OBLISK AND IN THE WALL. THIS 1 TYPE OF SANCTUARY OF 1 BRIDGE FORMED BY BOATS THAT SINKED 1 AND MANY PEOPLE DIED DURING THE TIME OF THE FRENCH INVASIONS!
Hoping to go very soon! We are waiting on our daughter to arrive next week so she can watch Naha for us since dogs aren’t allowed in. I read there used to be a prison inside on the bottom floor
IN 1922 GAGO COUTINHO AND SACADURA CABRAL MADE THEIR FIRST AIRPLANE TRIP TO THE SOUTH ATLANTIC! EVERYTHING I SAY CAN BE SEEKED IN YOUR COMPUTER SEARCH ENGINE. THANK YOU FOR LIKE MY COUNTRY
HELLO. 500 YEARS AGO THE PORTUGUESE GAVEGADOR, FERNAO DE MAGALHAES, WAS THE FIRST EUROPEAN TO ARRIVE AND BAPTIZE THE PACIFIC OCEAN! AT THAT MOMENT IT WAS PACIFIC, THE STRAIT OF MAGALHAES AND TRIBUTE TO HIM! WHEN A SAILOR ASKED HIM ABOUT THE SHAPE OF THE EARTH HE ANSWERED AND ROUND! I'M SICK OF SEEING YOUR REFLECTIVE IMAGE ON THE MOON! BUT STILL TODAY THERE ARE TV PROGRAMS ABOUT ITS FORMAT! HUGS
Thanks for making us feel good about our spending for our first month in March. We spent more then we anticipated also. May will be very expensive. We have our AIMA appointment on the sixth and then we will purchase a car.
HELLO. ON THIS DAY 50 YEARS AGO, I WENT TO 1 MEDICAL APPOINTMENT AT THE MILITARY HOPITAL! I WAS TRYING TO ESCAPE THE WAR! AT THAT TIME WOMEN COULDN'T VOTE, THEY COULD ONLY GO ABROAD WITH THEIR HUSBAND'S AUTHORIZATION! NURSES AND FLIGHT ATTENDANTS COULD NOT MARRY! TO USE A LIGHTER YOU NEED A LICENSE! IT COSTED 80 SHIELDS! THERE WAS NO PORTO LISBON HIGHWAY! AND I'LL STAY HERE FOR NOW. HUGS FOR LIKE MY COUNTRY.
HELLO. IN COIMBRA THERE IS 1 OF THE OLDEST UNVERSITIES IN THE WORLD, DATE FROM 1373, THERE IS 1 LIBRARY THAT THE PREDERVATION OF BOOKS DOES NOT USE CHEMICALS! THEY USE BAT THAT DURING THE NIGHT, FEED ON THE ANIMALS!
Our SEF / AIMA appointment was supposed to be today, we showed up all ready to find it rescheduled to July 8th. Seems there has been lots of system issues and a lot of people were rescheduled.
But did you see the pool and gym that are included? What would pay for a room that included a private bathroom and all these amenities? I’d be interested to know your thoughts.
The church is such a magnificent structure built to give glory to God. And, the effort necessary to adorn the streets with Calçada Portuquesa is incredible. BTW: Governor Newsom says you guys have to come back to California. You forgot to sign some paperwork. 😁
Great place. We got a T1 in Funchal near everything . Beach , shopping , cafes, bars all within walking distance. We have been here a month and do not miss Petaluma at all.
800 euros is awesome even for just a room in a HUGE place. especially includes utilities. less worrying while you travel around portugal. I thought that you brought furniture and other household items?
We are shipping over some household items and a trunk (the limit of our furniture). But it won’t arrive for months and we will store it if we are still searching for a more permanent location at that time. Also we have the 1/3 rule on our rental, meaning after 4 months, or a third of the lease agreement with can leave with a 30 day notice and no additional fees.
We only rented out one of the rooms. We have access to all the common areas and all the utilities are included. Right now, there are a few others in the house, I think maybe five other renters. Everyone we have met has been extremely nice and speak English.
Congrats Keene Family. Good for you that you got all that "said and done" and in the middle of cataract surgery. If you can do all that you can do anything!!! One thing about driver's license... Is Tim 60 or over?? He doesn't look it. 🙂. I don't believe folks under 60 need to exchange licenses in PT unless of course they want to.
Congrats on your move. We arrived in Portugal March 1st, from Petaluma also. We could not be happier. Look us up if you are ever on Madeira. Best of luck.
Both. She send it over and I also logged in and printed several copies. Seems like we need lots of copies of documents for everything, so I have a few ‘packages’ with the NIFs, lease agreement, passport copies and registration.
I'm glad you had a good time here on Sao Miguel Island. I am also vision impaired and I live alone so I get to take cabs or walk to where I need to go. Hope you get to see Povoacao next time your here!
I went through Winsurance for my travel insurance. Helena did all the paperwork for us. I took out a full year, but looking back I should have have only purchased a 6 month policy at the most. She also assist us with our MGEN policy for the private health care.
@@tomwoolley2124 it’s so stressful and afterwards such a relief once it’s over! Are you part of the Americans&froenfs PT Facebook site? I read through their files at least 3 times before our meeting.
@@KeeneAdventures yes I am, the only thing I am still a bit uncomfortable with is the actual application itself. Seems straight forward, but not sure if i am filling out properly, and no examples exist anywhere.
Thank you. Wow exactly 100 days from VFS to AIMA, glad you received an AIMA appt date. Fingers crossed we will as well. It seems to be very difficult to secure that second appt if its not stamped on your VISA @@KeeneAdventures
