This video is SO IMPORTANT for parents to understand what ADHD is, unlike me when my son was growing up. My son is 24 now, and i am 52. Just figuring out that it's not just depression and anxiety, but ADHD. It's just getting unmanageable as I get older. My son's 3rd grade teacher suggested he may have ADHD. I was uneducated and felt that my son was as active as any "normal" 3rd grade boy. The teacher didn't explain what ADHD was. Now I realize that he was probably a little disruptive, because he hated reading. I hated reading too, and still dislike it. He was bored. I got Bs and Cs in school until 8th grade, when they put me in the "smart" class. Suddenly I wasn't bored anymore, I wasn't getting picked on by classmates, and I got a lot of As (except for reading in English courses.) I am just now realizing WHY I did better. I could never figure out before why they would put me in the smart class. I can see the ADHD in my son now, at his age, when he comes to visit. He said he has social anxiety. at some point, I will likely share what is going on with me. my biggest concern with him growing up was that he could have depression or get bullied.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing Antonia. . I found out I had ADHD 2 months ago after going to the hospital because of an anxiety and panic attacks, since I have generalized anxiety and burnout syndrome, mainly created by hyperfocus and restless state. I have recently (2 months) taken Vyvanse, and it improved my life quite a bit. I am only taking a low dose for now 20mg, but I will be increase to 25mg next month based on my Doctor's recommendation and see how I respond. I noticed that food was affecting my anxiety quite a bit too, some kind of food sensitivity is going on, so I am doing an elimination diet, basically starting as a carnivore diet + low amount of fruits and introducing things back. Our gut microbiome plays an important role in our mental health mainly because most of the serotonin (related to depression and so on) in our body is produced in our gut. Maybe when you were travelling that's what happened, with the food and environment changing and affecting the Vyvanse effect as well, but who knows.

ADHD it’s a trends and pharmaceutical companies make the benefits. I think maybe less than 5% have ADHD the rest just don’t like their work and it’s normal you can’t focus. If you can hyperfocus for school it’s not ADHD. ADHD don’t choose when they will be hyperfocus or when they will be distracted

3:47 - Honestly, the messaging and, yes I will call it what is is, gaslighting, from your therapist is NOT to be normalized at all and NOT to be given any benefit of the doubt. I would imagine you know by now, given you're an adhd coach, that there is still a widespread problem, in the US, in Germany, worldwide, where psychiatrists and so many mental health practitioners are completely unskilled in ADHD. They cause so much harm and you see it everyday in journals such as ADDitudeMag online, Quora, reddit, chadd -- everywhere -- patients continue to this day to report therapists who have no idea what ADHD is and misguide many a patient. Please, I appreciate your kindness approach with family members who also don't know a thing, but it is antithetical to serving the ADHD population giving passes to uneducated-in-ADHD therapists. ... THIS part is painful to watch; please alter your advice here.

Try feeling what it's like getting diagnosed at 63 -- I appreciate anyone's "late diagnosis", but just consider for a moment, like no Millennial or GenZer ever stops to consider, you got intervention & CORRECTION in mid 20's, and by end of your 20's you're flying high with your ADHD Coaching Biz, more power to you. I just wish for one time one of you Zillennials just stopped to both IMAGINE right now in your life, what if it took even 40 years More before you ever got diagnosed? Do you have any idea what that feels like? How much damage is accrued in one's life. And then maybe just maybe make some videos directly about the TRUELY "late diagnosed" in life, and just how much catastrophe you got to avoid with your "early" diagnosis? You have no idea. Though I really like your channel and your presentations.

Antonia, you're such a far cry ahead of the whole pack of RU-vid Channel ADHDers -- and I love you for it -- because instead of listifying things and using clever graphics -- all of which is to #1 MONETIZE THEIR channels above helping people by cutting thru misinformation -- you are far more down to earth and empathetically engaged. Here, thankfully, calling out all the dismissive, disparaging, minimizations, and ignorant exaggerations, you've properly smacked these people, including "swami". Thank you for your channel and advocacy for those of us who do suffer from outcomes of the disorder.

I am trying to find out the right meds for me, but I am so glad I am trying to get my ADHD, amxiety, and depression treated. I have gone so long of "sucking it up" or "trying harder". I believe trying to find the right medical treatment and finding good healthy coping skills (from counselors and therapists, not guys like this) and taking care of myself is the best for me. We cam "overcome" our ADHD by getting help and trying your best and being kind to yourself or finding support, even when it is hard. You will have days when your ADHD is insufferable and days when it is manageable, but you are already an overcomer. It is not about your performance, you are enough. ❤❤ And he says that OCD is a true disorder is real, but ADHD is not. Ummmm, what?!? Both can debilitating and we need to show compassion to those who deal with them.

Personally IF I have kids (if cause I'm gay and don't want any but that might change) I would definitely put them on medication but not at too immidetly. ADHD meds have honestly changed my life in so many ways its difficult to really tell but I still think that there was some benefit to not getting them until I was 20 because I developed loads of strategies which help manage my symptoms. I think that if I knew of my ADHD at like 10 or 12 and was learning skills specifically tailored for ADHD I might have developed even more skills. And as I've learned while being on the meds there are days where they decide not to work or I can't get my meds on time or I just straight up lose them so having some skills to fall back on can be a massive help. Not that I don't think that you can't do this while on meds you absolutely can but knowing what I was like at 8-18 and what loads of other kids are like I think it would be less incentive to learn those skills. I Recon I would maybe have the kid spend time without medication (of course discussing the pros and cons first) and once we had worked together to make a good fallback plan if the meds don't work the way the expect or if there's a shortage etc. etc. then I would start them on titration with the doctor and of course explain that some meds will not work for you they might have significant negative side effects but once/if you find the one that works for you its almost like all of the skills you've learned combined are as good as the medication but they will still have those skills should they ever need to stop the meds. Reading this back I feel like I come across a little evil like I'm withholding the meds that I know will help because they need to help themselves but I think its just the way I phrased it (I am pro meds) I just think that before you get on the meds you need to have the skills to at the very least mitigate some of the symptoms without them even if its not as good an effect, so getting diagnosed young takes away that opportunity to find out what works best for you because your learning what works well for you while on the medication which is not always the same as whats works for you without

Bingo. I’m 61 and in my life I’ve had 5 jobs working for someone else. The longest I held one was 2 years and the shortest was 12 days, most lasting 3-4 months. The rest of the time I supported myself and 2 kids by making beads and jewelry. Now I also do tie dye. The money isn’t good but I just can’t work 9-5 for someone.

Delegation: Consider asking for help from others instead of carrying the burden alone. Prioritization: Focus on fewer goals, but ensure they are truly important to you. Letting Go: If a project is not crucial, it's okay to abandon it without feeling like you're giving up. Adjusting Goals: Modify your goals to be more achievable, like opting for walking instead of a full gym workout. Personalized Strategies: Use methods that work for you, such as exercising on a desk treadmill, to maintain productivity. Redefining Success: Adapt your definition of success to fit your circumstances and challenges. Accepting Limitations: Acknowledge that you might face setbacks and distractions, and that it's unrealistic to expect yourself to function like neurotypical individuals. Finding ADHD Hacks: Utilize ADHD-friendly tools and techniques from various platforms like TikTok, Reddit, and RU-vid. Resilience: Recognize that managing ADHD is a continuous effort, but emphasize resilience and not giving up.
