I don't drive it so much now, but I still have my 316,000 mile E32 7 Series from '89 after 21 years. I daily a 30 year old E36. I had a few 325i's, but 320i's as well. I rescued a 1990 320i Touring from Copart 15-20 years ago and did some trackdays with it. H710XUL iirc,

Had a 316 (non injection) back in the day and I loved it. Me and my mates used to call it 'The Terminator' because just as we thought we had killed it, the thing would spring back to life and serve another one of us as a runaround whilst our main BMWs were being repaired or upgraded. Had HUNDREDS of thousands of miles on it last time I saw it, and still felt like it had been carved out of a solid lump of metal. Incredible machine.

Again maybe it was in Europe somewhere or Germany itself that they released the 335I in 2006. But in North America it wasn't released until 2007 although they did sell the E90, 325I, 330I in 2006 here in North America. I'm confused LOL.
@FootToPedal
@FootToPedal 8 дней назад
Yeah geographic area can have an impact on this, back then I think Europe generally got models earlier than the US but I think that's not usually the case now. We had 335i's with the N54 as early as 2006
@friguy4444
@friguy4444 8 дней назад
WHAT?? In what country did they release the E9X series in 2004?? Are you sure about that information because it might have been being developed during that time but from what I've understood it wasn't released anywhere until 2006. I even have a 2006 M3 which is an E46 of course. I know they've had over lapping years of release for some models in the past so perhaps it's true. But I didn't think there was a two year gap for any of them. I had a 1991 E36 325i from Japan back in the day which threw a wrench into a lot of peoples computers looking up parts and such for it. LOL.
@FootToPedal
@FootToPedal 8 дней назад
If I recall the specifics correctly, I think the E90 was launched in December 2004 and went on sale in early 2005, presumably in Europe before North America. This will have just been the sedan model to begin with so there would have been overlap with the E46 generation, which I've seen happen with previous generations, E30 > E36 as you say. But yeah it would have had crossover with the E46 M3 which was made into 2006!

I'm a bit lower down, got the 323i which is basically an untuned 325i. It has the N52 engine, another brilliant motor from BMW, straight 6 naturally aspirated. What I love most about the e90 is the interior and the sporty intimidating 'squat' look especially in the later LCI versions. Timeless.

I have one in my 2006 325i. while it is the b25 variant, i understand all of what you said. It is a fantastic engine, and even with the lack of power, the torque makes it quite easy to get in trouble with lol. @mumbachabwe8881
@mumbachabwe8881 Месяц назад
I noticed that the review didn't mention the manual transmission itself. I'd love to know more about how it feels to drive it. How do you find the gear shifts? Are they smooth and well-assisted, or does it have a more mechanical, engaging feel? Does it require a bit more effort to shift gears, or is it relatively easy to get used to?
@FootToPedal
@FootToPedal Месяц назад
The gearshift on the F56 is generally very good from my experience, there is some electronic assistance in terms of engine RPM management, I.e. it will hold RPMs between gears to help the changes be smoother, and on my JCW it used to rev match automatically on downshifts unless traction control was fully off. But the shift itself is also very good and has a nice mechanical feel to it!
@jazzjokesjalopies
@jazzjokesjalopies Месяц назад
Ever experienced this? 2003 2.5i driven in hot weather (above 80 F / 26.6 C ). Engine is turned off after driving. When started up a little while later, still warm, the engine starts fine but rev's up and down on its own. The accelerator pedal seems completely disconnected from it, as it does nothing while this is happening. Turning the car off once or twice resolves it until next time. No warning lights, no overheating, drives away fine after. Maybe a dirty Mass Air Flow Sensor?
@FootToPedal
@FootToPedal Месяц назад
Always difficult to diagnose these sorts of issues without reading the ECU for fault codes, so I'd recommend checking that first. Could be the MAF as you say or potentially the idle control valve, but best to get it checked by an expert as you'll probably narrow down the issue quickest that way!

They come with runflat tyres on because there is no spare wheel. You may find that although its not law to have one or runflats on in the UK, it may be the case elsewhere. For me the runflats are a pain in the arse saver. If you get a puncture you can just truck on to somewhere convenient to get it changed. No phaff at the side of the road even to change a wheel.

I have same issue with transmission, when its neutral and clutch up. My car is not BMW Z4 but it is -97 Honda Prelude. I have think to put ATF to my gearbox. I think BMW uses ATF also but there might be case they have but normal gearbox oil in your transmission as in my. Many people are using ATF also in manual gearbox and have better results than with normal normal oil.
