Hi, my name is J C, and I am an urbanite who discusses EDC knives and gear for urban survival. In addition, I share my kits and adventures hiking and bushcrafting in Southeast Asian jungles. Earlier in my life, I spent almost ten years as a scout and then two and half years of military service in a combat vocation, with 10 more years in the combat reserves.
Professionally, I own a strategic management consultancy firm with offices in Singapore & Malaysia, and, prior to this, I have 20+ years of international experience in the entertainment and event industry. Much of my work included designing gear and equipment for show production.

I really like my 58mm swiss army knife with luminous scales for a mini kit. I don't use a tin, but a military surplus compass pouch instead. Great videos sir.
I’ve been interested in getting these, my only draw back, I can’t strip a wire with it. I carry my leatherman, I was in a situation recently where I needed to strip a wire, luckily I had my leatherman. I don’t believe I can do that with these knipex or maybe I can but I dk. I don’t like carrying two of the same tool, these are both pliers but with some extra functionality.
A combo carry Knipex with a SAK that has a wire stripper? But then you might as well carry a Leatherman. I'm EDCing the Skeletool CX now that replaces multiple individual tools.
@@urbanknifeguy Right now I carry a leatherman & a torch light, these combos works best for me atm, plus a SOG small knife. Sometimes i bring my pack depending on where I’m going, that has my piece along with other stuff.
@@rickzaleski3537 I have two sources. For specific small areas, I use the All Trails app and download the area. Then get it printed out. I also have gotten official topological maps from the local authorities/ agencies.
*nods* that's nice, it's a lot like the SAS floating pot hook... *fans her face, still excited over the SIlky saw sorry, when it works it works* I highly recommend clipping/snipping/cutting the plastic tab off the lid and fishing a large ring or key-ring thingie in place on the Stanley lid. With the pot almost full it'll still hold with the thingie clamped over. To like hang it from the ring and I'm apparently stupid and drunk sooooooooooo love you guys, love you UKG, been following you since before you did this channel, be safe in the out there.
These are fast not forged, ive got 3 of them. The camp axe, the hunters axe and the full sized double bit, they are great for the money, but 5hey are not forged, they are cast in sand molds.
Just getting into this EDC stuff at 47. I love gadjets and gizmo's. Yeah, I may never need them, but what else am I gonna spend my money on. I don't drink anymore, I smoke rarely if ever now and I may not even be able to drive anymore soon, due to a medical condition, so I am planning to buy even more :)
You were there too?😅 I live nearby the area where the expo is. For me the best thing i saw on the expo was the Pakistan made damascus steel blades which you showed on 1:15 minute of the video.
Nice review of an excellent knife, of course not everyone will agree. But as an owner of the Buck 371 Stockman, I have no complaints nor criticisms whatsoever.
From their product page: "Our maker’s mission is to build high-quality custom handmade knives at fair prices. Our knives are produced in Pakistan in the famous city of Wazirabad, known for its knife artisans, that have been handcrafting the best knives for centuries, carrying to this day the tradition of performance and style." I am a bit confused why the South Africans will be unhappy.
I'm a huge Lover of all tools discussed here..but... I do not think these are equal. The pliers on a skeletool are very weak and break easily with lateral torque. A T4 + small Slip Joint plier may be a little closer (since it has cutters). Try the channel lock 524.
Thanks for your thoughts. I agree they are not equal and the application is for the general edc tasks I typically encounter. I did not know the skeletool pliers were that weak. It is specifically for the Skeletools or Leathermans in general?
@@urbanknifeguy Skeletool in general, they're not made for heavy duty tasks. One thing I don't like about the Skeletool, are the holes in the knife; it makes it incredibly annoying to clean when using for food prep. If cutters are not essential (I rarely have used them when carrying the Skeletool), then something like the Cobra pliers you showed + the Rambler/Manager + ROCKTOL multitool knife 9cheaper than a T4), might be a better combo.
@joshfa5526 Thanks for your thoughts. I agree that the Skeletool is not for heavy duty tasks which is why it fits with my general urban EDC tasks. I also perosnally don't use multitools or folders for foodprep or outdoor use.
Great video. Still, i can never find a use for a corkscrew on any tool. Yes i enjoy a drink but essential tool? Most wine bottles, except expensive bottles tend to come with screw tops anyway.
@@urbanknifeguy yes, interesting. I've been a knife collector and user for 40 years. I've only had one SAK when I was a boy scout. As the saying goes "you learn something new every day " ! I'm actually going to get a couple next week, one for my wynex admin and one for my Maxpedition fatty pocket. Was looking at the super tinker and Alox farmer ? So much choice!!¡
These button lock utility knives are interesting. Thanks for the video. I settled on the Roxon S501U liner lock with the utility blade insert to go with the awesome 4116 scissors.
@@urbanknifeguy go ahead and buy it it's like a fix blade you won't be disappointed. For 71 $ I paid 4 in blade. Awesome knife survival knife jungle knife. Look up on RU-vid channel what's the point EDC he does a good hard use testing for the 4 max
As far as my life goes for edc I can always access pliers a saw and even an axe if needed. I carry a modified sak that handles all of my every day needs.
This 154 cm blade is amazing but its still not as good as 3 percent of maxamet steel of spyderco.. the grip on knipex cobras teeth is also not comparable to the leatherman cause u have alot of more leverage and the bits of leatherman they just so soft .. use wera instead :)
It doesn't appear the knife is fully pushed into the sheath. Once you push it in fully, it will snap in place securely and held in place by the internal tabs. It should snap in place securely enough that you will need to use your thums to push on the sheath to remove the knife. Thanks for the video.
I carry the 4inch knipex cobra, a Swiss Army knife and a very small titanium pry bar. They easily fit into the coin pocket of my jeans. I use my knipex 2 to 3 times a week at work. I work in a hardware store.
@@urbanknifeguy My hardware store covers about 7500 square metres and pliers and not an approved tool for us to carry so it gets complicated. These are small enough for me to carry without management seeing
