Outstanding. A fully dedicated tin for fire starting is essential. That is how important fire is.

I’m a firm believer in having multiple kits, one that’s practical and quick, and another that’s all about having fun. Flint and steel is my favorite method, but a lighter is quick and easy. I always base what my kit contains on the expected conditions. In mid winter after months of rain and icy conditions are expected, then I will load up. One year conditions were so bad I brought a few pounds of dry cedar. We spent about 3 hours to get a sustained fire. The wood had to thaw out and then dry before it would burn, and then came the snow. We packed up and headed home because the snow was too heavy for our liking.

If only you could start a fire to dry the wood 😂 Thanks for sharing as usual!

I’m not very good at making fires, I would need something like your educational fire kit to have a high probability of starting a fire. Once I have a fire going then I am good at keeping it going.

It is to have 3 types of fire starting. Then a lighter if all else fails.

I use a ferro rod 90% of the time. 10% lighter if I'm lazy. My full kit has multiple ignition, tinder and kindling options but the practical kit is as I showed. Thanks for your comment!
