I'm always on the hunt for exciting new experiences and ways to make this world a better place. The main goal with my content is to inspire viewers to get off their couches. My adventures mostly include bikepacking and endurance running, but I tend to throw in some curve balls from time to time. I live in Boulder, Colorado.
This is my favorite quote and YES I love the Muppets. "I know I drive some people crazy with what seems to be ridiculous optimism, but it has always worked for me." Jim Henson

Self-care is the highest priority. The last thing you need is saddle sores getting septic. That could be fatal. Not worth it. As hard as it is, you made the right decision.
Ryan, thank you for being vulnerable. I just read a great article from a 60 something year old woman who still races but says her race pace is a party pace. She loves to hear the birds sing and look at the flowers, Etc. About 8 years ago I realized that I needed to start practicing the art of stopping. It's not easy to do. But now, every time I start to rush I stop. I don't like to ride fast just like I don't like to live fast. I really appreciate you it just reinforces that we all need to go at our own pace and live our life enjoyably.
For selfish reasons - Many of us prefer your touring vids, enjoy your jumps in rivers, amaze at your gorgeous scenic photography-- taken in places some of us will never get to. Plus FLOWERS! Saddle sores sound beyond butt-horrible. Good call.
Hey my friend you are so special and human and demonstrated to me that I can be like you. And that is life “enjoying Life” not compite with nobody just with our self Thank you for sharing this moment Vamos!!
Good call! Think the world of you for having the courage to take this on AND STOP to prevent permanent injury! Another time, another challenge BUT, only AFTER full recovery.
It's good to know when to say enough is enough. Saddle sores are no joke, they can lead to serious infections. You did awesome Ryan, there's many more adventures out there. Take care.
I feel your pain Ryan. Met you at Ragbrai last year and I got the worst saddle sores ever. On and off the bike all day with wet shorts did it despite lots of lube. A blow torch is exactly what it feels like and makes you unable to enjoy the experience let alone get through a long day followed by lots of long days.
And I really thought that Ryan Van Duzer is one of those Hardcore Bikers with the likes of Mark Beaumont and Iohan Guyeryev who circumnavigated the globe with their bicycles but Ryan is STILL a Mortal biker, and no one can really fault him on his try and He STILL Gets my Respect none the less!!!
At least you tried, that is already good. Don't worry about it. Life is about learning lessons, take the good and throw the bad. Win or lose, it's part of life. I am sure you learned new things about yourself in this Tour Divide.
Yo Ryan! People who have finished Leadville don’t actually have to explain anything to anyone ever about a decision in an endurance event. You’ve earned that.
i prefer riding at my own pace and living life. When the ride is not fun i'm not doing it right. Heal up brother, we're looking forward to the new wiser adventurer.
You have nothing to apologize for. I respect your decision and I get it. I’ve never participated in a race in my life other than virtually on Zwift. Do your thing, which you do very well! I hope you heal quickly.
Don’t worry about it at all. You inspired me to tour ride and after 352 miles my saddle sores took me out. Yeah they are a killer even for the pros. Epson salt bath several times a day helped heal up fast!!
Ryan. We are all human. I appreciate you willing to take the challenge. You always motivate me to want to do better. Rest up. We will see you soon, ready to motivate us all to do better. Thank you
Ryan, I’m relieved you’ve made such a wise decision, I was worried about you 🥹 you have absolutely done the right thing and couldn’t have possibly continued in such discomfort. Health first so don’t second guess your decision but understand your disappointment 😢Go home and fully recover and recuperate and when you are ready we are very excited for your next adventure! Big hugs 🤗
Dude! You tried it, it wasn't for you. You've realized and learned more of what you like and what you don't. Mission accomplished! The saddle sores suck, but down the road it's gonna be a story you look back at and laugh. I also have a painful bum story but it involved poison oak and camping. Thanks for all the inspiration and enjoyment your channel has brought!
20 years plus of Mountain Bike racing and Road racing and Ski Mountaineer racing....I 100 percent understand what you mean. Now I ride whatever pace I feel like😊😊 Still pretty intense when I play beer Ice Hockey 😂😂
Love your mum because one day you wake up and she’s not there anymore! I think about her everyday! We travelled around the world and I have lovely memories but I miss her so much ❤
Ryan thank you for taking us along and Thank you for listening to your body. In my book you are still a winner because many of us couldn't have gone as far as you did. Take care and God Bless.
