This is my third attempt at the punishing Baja Divide and I'm feeling ready for the challenge! I'm starting where I left off in 2020, down at the southern tip of the peninsula. Hey Ryan. Pushing through sand is a lot like life, there is a beach side resort on the other side. Not be cliche, but for every door that closes, with the right attitude, there are many more to walk through. I suspect many of your followers, like me, follow you because of who you are, positive, respectful, fun to mention a few. I will follow you where ever you take your channel! Having said that, I am waiting to pick up my new Priority 600X, can’t wait. So for now, I hope you do bike packing adventures for a little longer!

I've been a cycling fanatic for nearly 40 years, but I could not do sand with your patience and composure! My favorite video is your Continental Divide video. What I truly appreciate about all of your videos is the peacefulness and joy you bring to being alone in the wilderness. Ryan although thousands of miles away here in the UK I can still see your pain, although your making a good show of trying to hide it with an entertaining video. We both know that gradually your pain will ease especially given all of the love us fans are sending you. Over here we gradually moving into Spring which apart from it getting warmer will also mean longer days with more sunlight. Every year someone suggests not turning the clock back or forward but its never happened yet and the long dark nights are a real pain. Although having said that I went out on my bike this morning at 5am when it was dark and cold but wrapped up it felt good with no one else being about. I guess its that mindfulness you mentioned. Keep those pedals turning.

Power line trails exist so construction equipment can maintain the lines. They can be found in crazy remote mountainous locations all over BC. They're typically mostly unrideable due to no smooth surface gravel and grades too steep to drive on but you can usually hike a bike on them to reach some really unbelievable places in the coastal wilderness.

I always sit down and rest on Sunday and your videos are the first one that I watch. You have inspired me to get back on my bike. i was in a accident on my bike and my husband really did not want me on my bike anymore. It was a bad accident and I do not remember much, but he does, but I have been switching from road biking to more grave riding. We have a lot a creek trails in my town (ones that are not covered with homeless). I plan on riding my bike as much as possible. Your trails in Colorado are amazing and wish my town had those trails. I do have a question. I noticed that you are alot fitter then most bike riders. Do you also do a weight lifting training and get so many muscles on a plant based diet. I would like to know your secret. Most plant base athlete are very skinning, Thank you and I am very sorry that I missed you in Mill Valley, CA. Maybe next time.

Thanks for sharing your trip Ryan! I really enjoy all of your videos. I think the ones that are the most compelling are those that feature other people (or dogs). It seems like a lot of people are catching up to where you are with the beautiful video footage. If you had some nice 4.5 inch wide tires you'd be cruisin! I put 3 inch wide tires on my 600X and it helps but I still don't think it's wide enough for all that sand. I found a bike shop out of Maine named Carver Bikes that will make you a titanium fatbike with the pinion and gates drivetrain. I can't help but dream about that one even if it is super expensive. I bet it would be worth it. Great video and thank you for sharing!

Hey Ryan. I was watching other content creators on RU-vid that also have some sort of adventure trail or road or motorcycle travel videos. I started noticing that the people I go back to the most include a spectrum of interviews and challenges but also some educational commentary of the historical, geological, and anthropological significance of the places they are traveling through. I know your content is mostly your challenges and people in cool places, but I want to know more about where you are and what makes it cool. Thanks for years of vids.

I know what you've said about not bringing a fatbike for your adventures in Baja befoe, and your reasons make a lot of sense in general. For me though, IF I ever get the chance to do Baja, there would be no way I'd go without a fatbike. I believe it would offer the best chance to stay on top of the sand. Pedaling. 4.5" or 4.8" wide tires on low pressure would make all the difference 🙂

I was going to ask about using fat bike also. It would make a huge difference in sand, at the expensive of being a little slower and less efficient on harder surfaces. I guess it depends on the ratio of sand to hard surfaces.

@@MusicByJC Yeah, for sure, that ratio is key. Another valid point is maintenance. If you're riding with a fairly standardized setup and something breaks or need fixing, especially with regards to the wheels, then it might not be that easy to get access to fatbike specific replacement parts as it would be with standard setups. Bikepacking requires us to be concious about these things so we can make informed decisions. I realize it sounds like I just contradicting what I said in my first post, but for me, as a heavier rider than Mr Duzer, I would go for fatbike in Baja. I would sink in much more than he did in 2017, becoming even more enraged 😅 I don't want that for myself 😄

I thought it to dangerous camping in river beds. Even if it looks dry, a big cloudburst further up north that you don't even notice can wash you and your tent away. Maybe that is what happened to those bikepickers too, which bones you found ;-).

I know you're probably already done with this adventure as of today since you're now editing and releasing the videos, but perhaps next time you're struggling to get started in the thicker sand, maybe carve out 10 feet of so in the sand of distance in front of your front wheel so it gives you a teeny bit of space to get your momentum before hitting the thick sand?

I love these adventure videos but I understand about getting older! I'm 64 and noticing that it's a little more difficult to do 11 day 300 mile rides through gravel. But I'm willing to BET when you decide to go electric you will be able to continue as always.... I yet have not made the leap...but probably by the time I'm 70 I will have to!

That road north out of SJdC has no shoulder but there is a dirt frontage road parallel to it. That's what I rode to avoid the power line section. FYI

When you look at all the times that you have been on super sandy trails, have you ever considered a fat tire or plus tire hardtail? As for adventures, I have been further inspired by your videos since I started watching them. I rode 10 solo centuries last year plus many more sub- 100 mile rides. I work M-F but in So Cal I have long days so I fit in short weekday rides. This weekend I did my century and a 60 mile ride. Ride4life is my Strava and I may not do bike packing but I hope to ride some of those places you share. I have been riding in the Philippines and planning on Vietnam next. 😊

Did you trying airing down the pressure in your tires? My cross bike can only handle 38s and airing them down at least keeps me moving….mostly, in sand. Just a thought.

Welcome to my channel! Thanks for subscribing. My saddle is the WTB Pure, it works great for me, but saddles are like shoes, they fit everyone differently. My shirts and chamois are made by ElevenPine, called the Uprising. Hope that helps
