WARNING: The following comment contains vitriol: This movie turned out to be just another garden-variety biopic designed and engineered as awards season trophy bait. To the ordinary list of problems with the conventional biopic - boring, shallow, pandering, formulaic - we can add farcical, as the footage in no way does any justice to Tolkien, Edith or the T.C.B.S., especially by having them portrayed by actors who resemble teenagers. Considering that Bohemian Rhapsody enthusiastically denigrated Freddy Mercury's memory and made truckloads of cash without anyone rightly caring, I guess I shouldn't be shocked at this abortion of a biopic.
The most cinematic way to represent Tolkien's life would be every other scene being set on Middle Earth as he is writing about it, specially several versions of the same character/story as Tolkien refines it. I really dislike it when biopics undermine the creative process by making the protagonist not think of something by themselves, but instead taking the concepts from dreams, hallucinations, suggestions by other characters or a random advertisment in their line of sight. Like, imagine if they made a Tony Goldmark biopic and some character insults him by saying "you're such a jerk", but Tony sees an ad for cameras behind that person and replies "I might be a jerk, but I'm some jerk with a camera".
Man, so many great ideas here! It's one of the most unlikely things in the world, but I kind of want to see a proper Homestar Runner theme park become a thing now...
How about a Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor-style show where Strong Bad reads our SBEmails that the audience writes before the show starts, that way they can continue the tradition of Strong Bad making fun of everyone’s terrible spelling and grammar errors, but in real time That and a guy dressed as Homsar shouting random nonsensical phrases, as Homsar is want to do
I reckon you've just hit on one of the sad limiting realities of this, a whole lot of what makes the-H-star-the-H-star-R so special is the spontaneity and vocal performances.. you can't just fake those the way you can get an actor playing Gaston and doing pushups for people. I mean maybe? Maybe you could. I remember an interview with some voice actor or other, I forget, who played Beetlejuice at whatever theme park owns those rights, and reeeeaally got into it, nailed the character, and then rolled in garbage so he'd even smell rotten.
A virus themed funhouse. Including a mirror that makes your mouth a broken jpeg. Only way out is through the hole shot in the wall. Oh, a meet n greet with th thnickaman. Oh the things that man does!
What about Riverquest Safariventure, with "cardboard" boats and bored tour guides? Also, I feel like the King of Town's castle should be a massive buffet (The King, reportedly, has his own buffet that's twice as big; guests are treated to what the King considers a "light snack."). Finally, three words: Poopsmith-themed bathrooms.
Strong Bad's Moony Park for Incredibly Attractive People USA (Not to be confused with Euro Strong Bad's Moony Park for Incredibly Attractive People France)
Bringing this over from the Patreon comments: Either near Peasantry or the Videlectrix arcade (maybe bridging them if they're neighbors) would be the park's own take on the Frontierland ducks/hopping fish pond, expect it's fully themed after Duck Pond.
Genuinely disappointed at the severe lack of the Gremlin. Sounds like a perfect photo-op. Plus, if you hit the trunk, you could hear Coach Z say some wacky phrases!
This shows biggest weakness is that its set in Middle Earth, feels like it wanted to be a generic high fantasy show but someone said "lets make it Tolkien". Heres hoping it can get its personality problems sorted.
As I recall, it was during this episode that you warned me against riffing these because it would tank my algorithm, as nobody would want to watch more than one of these.
Would love to see you do the other Disney Kingdom comics like Seekers of the Weird, Figment, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, etc. You could get Chris Nebergall to play the villain in Big Thunder or maybe even Ron Schneider to play Dreamfinder.
Are you guys bringing this back now that the strike is over? Are you guys gonna catch up on the remakes and marvel/star wars movies in future installments?
