Absolutely a underappreciated gem and i hope it stays that way, IMO it uses better electronics than its later cousins and its canon counterpart. You almost never have to worry about the capacitors dying in this thing. I also think it has the best aesthetics of any film camera ever made, the black finish is the same that leica used on their R series of SLR's that were developed in conjunction with Minolta. I believe the Leica R5 and the XD11 use the exact same internals.
Quick question: how did you mount your camera (which obviously is not a light action camera) so securely that it doesn’t shake whatsoever. It’s basically rock solid.. I’ve tried that with my a7iii and 3 suction cups on different axis but it still turned out shaky, even with a wide angle lens… I’m about to give up and buy an osmo action 4 with nd filters to get the rock solid car shots, but maybe you can help😅
I’m not 100% sure but I think it might have something to do with ibis. I don’t think ibis systems on most cameras are built to deal with the micro jitters coming through the car body, so I would recommend turning it off completely. The camera I shot this on (Sigma FP) has no ibis and the sensor is completely locked off which I think in the end makes it so there are less jitters. Counter intuitive I know but that’s my best guess based on other videos I’ve seen and whatnot
@@iso25 Thanks a lot for your reply! I was afraid this might be the problem aswell... I have a a5100 laying around which also doesn't have ibis. I might try it out with that and see if less weight and no ibis makes a difference. Sadly only 1080p of course... Lets see! ;)
Did this once for a film project, literally duct taped my camera to the passenger seat and just drove around at night. Still one of my favorite things I've recorded.
There's a video somewhere on youtube where a guy is driving around in his car at night talking about life and depression, he has the camera mounted to the hood looking in on him and a microphone inside the cab. It really brings a different feel to the video, I'd recommend it but I have forgotten the name
Yoooo honestly i think this speaks volumes to how far SENSORS have come. I'm guessing this was shot raw? Nutty cleanliness vs what i was shooting on a 5dmkii 10 years ago. So little noise. Makes me want to shoot some footage with my sony, i mostly just hobby photo now. Cheers, enjoy the Al G Rhythm ride 🕺
