A channel dedicated to doing it yourself and saving money doing it. Due to the fact that I'm an over-the-road truck driver there's going to be a little of that mixed in also. Hopefully I can provide a healthy balance and we can have some fun along the way
I really enjoyed this, interesting point of view. I don't know if you travel to upstate New York... aka tje people's republic of New York. I-87 exit 16 tjere remains a truck stop called Scotties. Scottie has been there for the vast majority of my life, and was actually the 1st "squad building" when Wilton Emergency was in its infancy and they allowed to park our ambulance there and plug it in. Aside from a few "modern" upgrades it remains the same old Scotties when I was 16 and an Explorer with Wilton. It's been a little bit since I have been up that way, we were headed north and decided to see if the resteraunt was still resteraunting... it was and the coffee is just as good as it was almost 40 years ago. If you are ever up that way, it might be one you want to check out.🙏💜
In that particular context, Karma came back and bit him hard. All the dirty tricks and con artistry an arrogant attitude came back on him. That place is worse than the place he wanted to get rid of
Back in the late 70's and 80's. Was in most of the old real truckstops. Matthews I stopped in every trip back south. Back then we had truck stops. Not fuel stops like today. The old North 40, was ok. But I always ate at the white pines that jointed it to the north.
I liked the old North 40. I used to stop at Matthews at the Flying J a lot back when it was still a flying j. It seems like that was the place to go when you were in matthews. I stopped at the TA quite a few times when they still had a restaurant but wants the restaurant left there wasn't much there I wanted. And when the Flying J in Matthews burned down and they rebuilt it with that Calamity they call a truck stop, I don't really stop there anymore if I don't have to
@@truckerdaveandred6731 I agree some should have never been opened back up. But nothing like the orange ball in the sky. When in Knoxville or West Memphis. Trash both of them. So many lot lizards it was unreal. No way were you going to sleep on those places.
Memphis has been one of those places that's removed itself from my stop list. I don't stay in Memphis or west Memphis anymore . It's just gotten that bad @@Pete-from-Tn
Did you know! The TA in Nashville, TN, was an old 76... I can tell you where four 76s and you won't believe there was one there.... In Wisconsin... Memories... 😊😊
I got to the TA a couple weeks before they closed they're in Nashville and did a video on it and bought a few things like a couple location t-shirts and things of that nature. When they cleaned it up after the flood, it really was a nice place to be
When I started driving in the late 70's that's all I lived out of was the 76's in the Midwest. The 76 in Oak Creek WI. was torn down and a Flying J popped up, it's now a Loves. When I started to drive out west I stopped at the Burns Bros. I still have my TABB fuel card. You are spot on with everything you have said good job.
Used to stop at that burns Brothers in Troutdale Oregon quite a bit. Last time I was there though, you can see it starting to get run down. I haven't been there in probably 8 or so years.
Back in the 90's when I was running west I would stop at the Burns Bros in Cheyenne Wy, Fort Bridger Wy and Barstow CA. Been retired since '21 and enjoy your videos, brings back memories, some good and some not so good lol.
yup! we'll grab a cheeseburger & drink from '76!! woohoo! wow! that's an ''empty'' lot! not even a remnant! geez! yup! '76 was a big deal !! this was the famous Gulf 76 & all that stuff! oh wow! that's nice! spiral stair case fancy!! geez! ten tons of O'le metal scrap!! in those old signs..ha..ha..meh! environment regulations! blah..blah.. yup! thats pretty good!
Well, if a truck stop cannot provide me with parking, why should I buy fuel there or food or anything else. If I get there late (after 9 pm) then it’s on me. So yes, they DO owe me a parking spot, and I SHOULDNT have to pay for it!!!
How do people lose tools like this? Been driving 7 1/2 years and never lost binders, winch bars, ratchets or anything else. Make sure you stuff secure and do a once around the truck and trailer after you strap/chain as well as once your unloaded.
I have no idea. I've seen more straps and binders on the road this year than I have in the last 25. This is actually the second set of tires I've lost because somebody dropped one of these in the road.
Going down 90/94 Michigan had a container pass me and the foot come off his landing gear went to the shoulder hit the grass and flew up back at a drive tire. He stopped at the rest area and hooked me up at sprinkle road for a new one. That was kool. Thanks
Glad you've alright, could've been worse I suppose but wish you could collect as this shouldn't happen. Lost money, time, revenue, etc. Terrible thing.
This is the second set of tires I've lost do to people losing these. These places don't sell used to tires anymore so you're kind of forced to buy new and it gets expensive. I don't know how people lose so many of these but they do and those hooks will destroy a tire
Too funny! However lost binders do seem to throw themselves under other trucks in ritual suicide, not good for tires. Please keep your binders at home so they don't do this.
Rush hour traffic. I saw it coming as I was changing lanes and swerve to miss it but I didn't have a whole lot of places to go. I'm just glad I didn't hit it with a steer
Not the first time. I've been noticing a lot of ratchets and binders laying in the roads lately though. I know it happens but nobody sells used tires anymore so you got to buy two new ones
Oh so you mean the old caps are the only ones missing.... If you didn't see them steal it then stop trying to create a problem saying somebody stole it... could have fallen off because they were old
You know I love a good history lesson. I could almost picture the cabovers and 359s parked amongst the Transtars, W900As, Jimmy Astros. I am like you. I came at the very tail end of something very cool. Luckily, I grew up riding in trucks so I do remember some of it!!
@@truckerdaveandred6731 I actually had somebody ask me today if I was going to talk about old truck stops and I said no and then directed him you your channel. If it's something you're going to keep doing let me know so I can promote it!
I saw a time when they gave the Men ham with honey biscuits! N black coffee!! woohoo! that O'le 76 would make a good parking area! this is something I wish more truckers watched! it's funny, seems like the truckers/operators try harder then the brokers!! still a good O'le lot in places! next time I guess! probably just a prick! get'n out & walking around's a good healthy thing to do!
What was the leak? And wow! Thsts awful anyone steals caps or whatever you call them. We had a truck with those kinda wheels. It was a dually. Thank goodness no one ever did that to us.
Hey Dave. I really enjoyed your live the other night. I've always liked checking out the old truck stops. The 76's the Rip Griffins, TA'S and the TTT in Tucson I always enjoyed the Iron Skillet at the Petros. In fact I still think about the Twin arrows and Cabazon. They were some pretty good ol truck stops. I think the TTT is still open.we used to stop there a lot heading out and coming back. A lot of great memories. And we would stop at the 76 or across the street at TA in Ontario Calif. Take care brother see you on the next one.
I remember the first time driving out to LA and stopping at the TA East and seeing the big 76 sign on the west side of the road. Normally when I was out there I would stay in Fontana at truck town. Had a lot of fun there
Started OTR in the early 80's. Always looked for that Orange Ball in the Sky. So much better than the fuel stops of today. Not many honest truck stops left. Used to love the old Mom and Pop truck stops.
You reminded me of saying my dad had. “Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.” I used to give people the benefit of the doubt until that saying became true more often than not. Now I don’t believe anything that someone says
That ain't no joke. If you can't look out for yourself and take care of yourself, you can't take care of anything else. Sadly, we live in a world where we have to literally question everything
I think that basic Commodities are doing okay right now but this being an election year everybody's tightening their belts and going into a holding pattern because people don't have a lot of disposable income right now. I do know General Commodities are still holding but it's getting highly competitive
It's been fluctuating but I've noticed that when it comes to whatever reason you're running, if you can hit a Groove where you're making money, you ride that Groove as long as you can. My bread and butter has been getting a little light lately and I'm working on finding a New Groove myself. It's all about staying fluid and while we don't work for free, it's about staying out a couple of days and doing what the other guy won't because while a lot of guys are wanting to go home every friday, I'm making three to four thousand dollars that weekend and I'm not going to turn that down in this economy. As for a specific area, some people do better than others in these areas and like I said, if you can get it to click, go for it. My buddy used to make all sorts of money in areas that I could never get to go and vice versa. Don't be afraid to take a little bit of a risk if you're interested in running a lane
I was hoping to get by there and maybe do a little filming and see if I can find some old 76 remnants because if you look hard enough you can still see a few things here and there but I came off the 412 heading east do exits east of there so I didn't get a chance
@@truckerdaveandred6731 Not the Russian Subs and Warships since 1962. Col Douglas McGregor was just talking about it on his format. That's how weak this Biden Admin. is to even allow it. And the American people and Congress and Senate are this weak to allow it. People better start waking up. The Petro dollar treaty is dead as of last monday. Saudi rejected it. I'm just trying to get everyone on these different formats to help spread this factual info out to the Americans.
Never fall for the Trucker Todd YT "spot market" or Trucking Together "small fleet" BS. There is not enough spread for a "contractor" to hire employees, they can hardly make it as a single truck operation. Go to work for a good company as a company driver w/ good pay and benefits and you come out far ahead of being an O/O or small fleet owner.
Building a fleet takes a lot of time and everyone seems to think that they can just shortcut the process and the freight will be there. Some people get lucky, most don't.
I got a really long power cable and ran it along the edge of the windshield down the side of the dash and over to the charge port on the side of the dash
Petrol would work way better than vinegar. I have a spare egr body for my car. Anytime it gets clogged up just swap it for the spare and put the 1 iv took off in a tub of petrol. Let it soak for a day. Then 5mins in the ultrasonic cleaner to get any petrol residue off. Always comes up like new
& U knew this one friend for a long time!! try to be a business person! a good bad guy will turn everyone against U, then ask how much to fix the fender bender & Tbone! and this can be a male or female driver! but ain't this the oldest trick in the book! yup! skilled labor & competency is the thing! it's always there in black N white. even if there bad 2 da bone...accounting is just way, way to tight today! know U'r place! yup! some helpful advice.. good stuff to think about! reminds me of a football moto! my Dad was big into managing. I watched him spend 20yrs, then 15 more. doing just that. only to build something unimaginably giant. like suppling most of the entire Nation. then just selling it all off. thinking he has built a solid foundation! it's such a crazy line of existence all over the entire world. folks just trying to survive & get moving, building on a life! minus the evasive species! complications are good for nothing except being a competent pocket watch! Man will get through this, one day! oh geez!
Sorry, but I remember truck stops as far back as the 1970s (yes, I'm an old fart)... And they were always hit and miss. Some were top notch...with clean rest rooms and showers, good & reasonably priced food in their store and/or restaurant, plenty of parking with trashcans that got emptied regularly... Others were terrible with rest rooms that had not been cleaned in years, showers so dirty you had to wear shoes, overpriced food that I would not feed to someone I hated, diesel full of dirt and water, parking full of trash and piss jugs.....and lot lizards and hijackers to keep you company at night.
When I was doing over the road, I love to stop at Bill’s truckstop in North Carolina off of 85 decent restaurant nice truck stop always like visiting. Mom and Pop truckstops their fuel to me was always a little cheaper too…
I bought one and immediately returned it. It gave me only a single route to a place which has several routes. Not a good product. I am going to stick with my smartphone. Much better.
