Although I enjoy the analysis, quite detailed even, I do question if the singer is actively controlling what the analysis is pointing out, or, is the singer just singing, in a way that is normal to them. Like asking someone how they breathe naturally. Not saying the Analysis of the "how" is incorrect, but, I wonder if the singer is asked, if they would say "yeah, I'm holding my jaw to a 1/4 position to create a vocal resonance of the second tonality, and here I carry the note 2 seconds longer than you would think" or is it "I felt the song and I sang". I heard before, if you have to think about what you're doing, you'll never get better than what you are. It's that delineation between being skilled and being naturally talented. Like asking a squirrel why it climbs so effortlessly. It doesn't know, it just does.
Beautiful choice for today. Thank you! Would you please react to this Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello song? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DiKCKQhsZbg.html
For this performance literally till he walked out on stage they didnt know if Layne was sober enough to perform. And if you watch.....layne never opens his eyes
Fave DP tune for sure, and possibly of all time for me. I loved your expressions; even that sour Hammond B3 note that brought a slight ‘dour’ expression. You should NEVER play poker, at least with money. Thanks so much for this, it was thoroughly enjoyable 👍
Neil Young is all about the tone; a sweeter one probably doesn’t exist. When he performs other artist’s songs sometimes that Young tone goes astray. With CSN&Y they always gave him that special place. Thanks for this breakdown. Very nicely done 🇨🇦
NO autotune to "pretty up " his voice. Natural imperfections and emotions add to a song, its time the recording industry realized that! Otherwise everyone sounds the same.
Since you love Canadian artists so much, especially Rush, I would like to suggest a more subdued Rush song called Losing It. It is off of Signals, a time in which Geddy was starting to tone down his vocals. But, I find it is one of his best performances ever. And the lyrics are amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-65Yvo46wqY0.html
You should check out live footage of his Mondo Cane-album...singing 50s & 60s Italian crooners with Mike Patton-intensity and full orchestra. Gotta love it ❤
A couple of others... Bonnie Raitt's JUST LIKE THAT... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Skd0XR3twCA.html And long ago, a very sad but true tale from Christopher Cross about his girlfriend's roommate, Laura Carter... www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=christopher+cross+laura+story#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:e785acda,vid:4Xvg-dNxT-Y,st:0
Most if not all bands write lyrics before composing music... Total opposite with Tool. Maynard doesn't come up with any lyrics until the music is done... So he's basically just another instrument so to speak.. Basically no one in Tool hogs the spotlight... But if i had to pick one i would say Danney Carrey in reference to Pneuma.. which by the way has no vocals
I would like to point out one more aspect to the poetry of it all, the chorus sings “jaaa” and the flames burn upwards, while Till sings “Nein” and the flames burn downwards. It further emphasizes the duality presented in the lyrics.
The thing that stands out to me the most about this song is the fact that Neil just decided that he would just write a song about a caretaker on a property that he had recently purchased. The fact that this song was one of the biggest songs its time when it was released, It says a lot about the man and his ability to write absolutely amazing music, and I will venture to say he probably did it without really trying.
I was born three years later. I grew up listening to this kind of music. In a different version, from behind the Iron Curtain. I recommend Polish, Hungarian Rock. Beautiful times.
