The HVAC Dope show has made its mission very clear - Making HVAC Dope again. You’re probably asking yourself... was HVAC EVER dope? No. Good point - this will be the first time, so technically we’re just making HVAC Dope.
In The HVAC Dope Show you can expect the best information and up to date trends as it relates to getting the best HVAC for your home, as well as a behind the scenes look at a day in the life Howard Bynder an HVAC business owner, and see the mechanisms and people that keep the wheels on “The Bee Bus” spinnin.
Our mission is to put out the **** that YOU want to watch. Check it out and don't forget to drop a hello in the comments!
Hi ! My name is Trung Le. I just purchased my whole house central air Daikin Heat Pump and air handler last week.( I made the decision caused watching your RU-vid). Heat pump Model number DZ5SEA6010AB , 5 ton, 15.2 seer. My seller told me it's 1 staged ( 1stage ) but the installer told me it's 2 stage ( 2 speed ). Could you please tell me it's 1 speed or 2 speed ? Thank you .
HVAC Dope Show videos are great for heat pumps. Thanks! I have a situation in which I would like to replace an existing gas fired boiler and use a heat pump to heat the hydronic baseboard water system circulating through the house. Question: Is it unrealistic to heat the hydronic water system using a heat pump?
I just had the filter installed in a Trane heat/air system. Not only does it calls for a 1x20x22, the slot which the filter goes will not accept a thicker filter. So just stick with a one inch with a 8 MERV rating?
I don’t want a Carrier HP with a LG compressor. Any way to tell which models have the Copeland and not the LG made compressors? Getting a single stage, not an inverter.
Age should never be a deciding factor. Condition and ability to get replacement parts, efficiency (a 7 SEER prolly needs to be replaced), and suitability (is it actually sized right for the space).
I was looking at the Trane Resolute website comments, and there are complaints about the noise of the condenser unit running as high as 83 dB. Please share any experience with Trane Resolute noise.
I use the cheapest filter in mine...but I have two air purifiers in rooms we spend most time in.... and in addition to that... I'm a total clean freak. I have a rainbow vacuum that I use frequently to dust the entire house top to bottom..My filters are 2 different grills in a hall...not in the air handler... and when I check them there's a very little bit of dust on them....and I vacuum them off...but the air handler A coil is clean... My brother scolded me for using those cheap filters... but then he remembered what a clean freak I am so he was curious what the A coil looked like. He had me go to my attic to snap a picture... he said it looked perfectly fine. and my unit is approaching 20 years old this year... I DREAD having to upgrade (both the cost and the process) to a new unit but I know it's inevitable...
Daikin fit is always a single fan. Trane doesn’t even make this unit Gree does. Also EER is a poor efficiency measurement for any inverter. It means nothing. Why buy a unit from a manufacturer who doesn’t even have the tech no make it themselves? They need Grees help amd still can’t match Daikin
DONT use thick filters. I do Home Depot FPR 5 rating. I ran thicker ones and my motor burned out. Even my reputable AC guy said thick filters are hard on your system. $790 later....FPR 5 filters installed and no issues. And these catch A LOT of dust anyway.
A lot of people don't even know about filters. I once walked into a room air conditioned by a window unit and wondered why it was so hot. There was little air coming out of the vent. I checked the filter and the dust was so thick it was like a kind of thick paper. Cleaning the filter did help, but the coil was also clogged probably from air leaking around the filter since there was no other path for it to go.
Our new furnace needed a new blower motor after three years, because I’d been using MERV 11 filters and running the fan nonstop. I learned my lesson and now I use MERV 8 filters and have the fan set to circulate (so it only runs when heating or cooling plus randomly for short periods).
No one in Houston knows how to fix them; my 4 year old daikin 18k heat pump only blows cold when it is sunny and very hot outside…everyone wants to throw expensive parts and daikin support won’t help.
I'm out in Minnesota, looking to put a heat pump in as my ac died. I have a 2 zone ducted 2 stage carrier furnace, (59tp5a) I'd really like an inverter heat pump and when my furnace goes, a variable speed system. Are there any inverter systems that I could use without the need to change out my furnace? One contractor said the 38mura would work with it, but another said the 38mura wouldn't work with the 2 zones - which I don't really understand why it would matter since the zones are ducted post air handler? Perhaps suggesting the lower cfm from running just 1 zone would be a problem? Thanks for any insight!
I haven't' checked yet. I will before my changeout. Most furnaces call for a 0.5 in h20 pressure differential. If it is out of wack and there's too much return flow. Do you just start blocking off the closer returns and adjust? I have my suspicions that I have too much return flow. Less static pressure of the discharge?
Over my cold body would i get rid of that sweet fire. I'd supplement with the pump for sure. Chopping wood is tough. A truck is dropping that unit and 60k furnace off in a few days. Wish me luck. First timer diy. I'm in northern CO. We've seen around that low of a temp too minus teens.
I had a hvac repair man tell.me to.buy the cheapest air filter I could find, and change them.often. The higher rated filters restrict air flow, which causes the compressor to run too hot. Running hot, will shorten your compressors life.
I totally believe this because here's my story. In 2004... moved into brand new house with all electric Trane heat pump... the first five years had all kinds of issues.... I was using higher MERV filters... I don't even think they were the highest MERV... more like medium merv...the compressor died... 2 capacitors went out... after it was fixed... I started using the cheap fiberglass filters after reading something online about how they don't make your system work as hard... literally the ONLY things that have gone wrong since then is once the condensate clogged.... I think one capactor went out...(maybe 2) in the last 15 years... it's now 20 years old.
The audio of your videos is simply awful. Your microphone may cost a lot but it produces a muffled quality sound. And the e ho chamber you’re recording in also diminishes sound reproduction. And all that diminishes the enjoyment of your videos.
You’re right, Thanks for the heads up I didn’t catch this before upload that’s terrible, idk why it’s like that but I’ll have to record it again and will probably change the setup… I listened on low when reviewing but yeah the audio is garbage on several recent uploads. Thanks for pointing this out it’s intermittent so I’m just going to change it up
Do you by chance have the estimated "dollar amount" for using a heat pump (on electricity) vs Furnace (on natural gas) to warm up the house to 23 degrees cely from an outside temperature of -5 degrees Celsius in a hypothetical 24-hours period in Ottawa? Assumptions is that the Heat Pump is 3Tons, and the house is newly built air tight of approximately 3000 square ft.
Really depends on the filter being used, the 3M MERV13 1900 has been proven by multiple people including an official study done by the State of California to be less restricting than even basic air filters. It comes down to the amount of filter material within the filter... in this case more material means more surface area which means less pressure drop and air restriction. The filter is also less suspectable to performance degradation overtime. While a basic filter may initially be less restricting it will soon become clogged. For those that are interested in the data just do a google search for 'State of California 3M MERV 13 1900' and you will be able to find the whitepaper with the data. Also Project Farm here on RU-vid also did testing on a bunch of filters including the 3M MERV 13 1900 and found the same results.
My HVAC guy had to replace my inducer motor assembly because one of its three plastic cast motor mounts broke. He noticed I was using MERV13 filters and told me to switch to MERV6 and said to change monthly (vs changing MERV13’s every 90 days) and I’d not only save money but I’d prolong the furnace life. He was right, and the filters don’t come out concave from the pull of the airflow over time 👍🏼
In also making a decision on single stage or two stage systems, one should also understand that a two stage system requires more times a technician to come by the house and repair or maintain the furnace. Don't set yourself up for spending more money on a technician to figure out the problems with the more effieient two stage system. I am going to go with a single stage variable speed furnace.
Having a Invinity green speed HP installed as i type. Carrier has a Cool Cash rebates and ends soon. Would this be something i get from the Manufacturer or the installer?
