This is the first time I've seen an Yggdrasil gameplay video. I like the way tokens are drawn, and how they can be returned to other bags later - I've always been a fan of chit-pull and bag-building mechanics. I don't know why but I get a kind of "Ghost Stories" vibe from this, though it's obviously completely different ... maybe I have low blood sugar or something? 😂
I've only ever played the base game with the patent rules are it's very easy to manage. It's mostly to prevent other players from using your cool new building before you get a chance - something that has repeatedly hurt the game experience for a lot of people. I like the big chunky tokens for it in this expansion.
The increased gold for trade was another officially recommended rules update from the designer/publisher that I've always played with. I also recommend that rule even with the base game.
Thanks and great to know! It was a strategy/tactic to get rid of the heavy industries once you no longer needed those - which you can still do of course. I have played this game like 20 times or so and honestly never came to the problem with what the patent tries to solve actually… I do see that the expansion is dealing with some changes; the extra engineer at the start and the proper „price“ for higher tier trades is definitely a good change.

you need to start making your Spiel Essen plans. once was enough for me. the steak dinners and the evening light show in the town square near the train station were my highlights.
Great playthrough! I've recently bought the original Quacks with two expansions so still a lot of plays ahead of me so I'm not going to buy the duel but your video was very pleasant to watch, very informative and the game itself seems quite nice, a bit like a tug-of-war style.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate your comment and yes, if you own all the stuff from the original game you may not necessarily need this one; even though it definitely has some unique mechanics.

Ha - there were a lot of (unofficial) solo modes out pretty early; I covered one of those relatively early on actually. Of course with the app, things are a bit more "professional" - I quite like it.

You know the rules, but your tactic is really bad. When a minion is in the dungeons, don't explore. Use free action in the dungeon to kill a goblin... try again
What a finish! Holy crap! A natural 10 without modifiers while facing down a regenerating troll at 1 HP! 🤣 I cannot possibly stress enough how powerful air, earth, and fire essences are in combat. You have other healing options, so water is generally more useful elsewhere; but removing one die completely devastates most enemies and can let a starting character kill some level 2 monsters right out of the gate. Earth essence is a max-damage roll on a stick. Fire essence can turn a whiff into three damage or a 10+ roll into 7, etc. Really make an effort to confront as many elementals as possible. And also, as you unintentionally demonstrated in this video, a lower to-hit value is a FAR safer option than relying entirely on modifiers like Gaar to land any damage whatsoever. Do not leave that much of your fate to dice. They cannot be trusted.
Thanks for your interest. I do own (and like) the original „Fresco“, but wasn’t really aware of the card and dice game, so I don’t have access to it right now. If I somehow get hold of it I can definitely consider a video.
Thanks for the playthrough, Markus! I have owned this one for a bit and not played it yet, something I really need to remedy. I hope that you will continue on with it!
Thanks, Stasia - it's really a nice little game. Devir (and KOSMOS) really put a lot of "game" into a relatively small box; it's also very nice to look at!
@@realjplay Devir does that, I have found. I now own several of their small box line of games and all of them have managed to get "big" games into small boxes.

thanks for doing this playthrough... it's really helped me make sense of the game... I'm finally getting around to, so I was happy to have you guide me through it :)
Vielen Dank für das Video. Ohne RU-vid Videos wie deine ist die Anleitung ja teilweise kaum verständlich 😂. Aber als absoluter Masters Fan musste ich es kaufen
Thanks so much! The „campaign“ is basically the same thing, but the AI opponent will get more possibilities to score. Somehow reminded me of the campaign in „Cascadia“.
