I help Dad's build better memories with their kids by reviewing technology and gear related to camping, 4wd’ing, travelling, and all the stuff that Dads love to do with their families. We also cover off things to do with men in society - raising kids, mental health, "the lost art of fathering" and practical things that what we can do to help bring back the critical role that Fathers and men play in society.
This is great. Thank you for sharing it with us. Looking to build my own one in the near future. What’s involved in registering it (what does it cost and what does it need) and what does it weigh?
thanks mate - the bloke that did the majority welding also did rego - Mick Coliazzi (C&P Coliazzi in Lansdale WA). Trailer owes me around 12 grand all in (excluding Engel). It weighs around 1100kg dry, rated for 1600kg
thanks mate - Rob is an inspiration. If you like where I'm taking this channel - helping dads become better dads and men become better men please like, subscribe and share. I could use the support! cheers, Boz.
I'd be a little bit suss on that UHF handpiece location if the side airbag goes off. From memory there's a section in the user manual. Otherwise nice job from another Prado dad.
For the 250 I would definitely recommend a secondary fuel filter system, absolutely worth the cost and will save your engine from water or bad fuel. 250 will be awesome to own.
I bought and built up ('accessorised') my '22 VX based on a gazillion RU-vid videos (including videos from Ronny Dahl's and Harry Fisher's 'Fire-to-Fork' channels) that I had watched prior to my purchase and now that I'm all but done with my build, I have to say I think I got pretty close to everything as a package meeting my expectations. Last time I dared to look, the total cost of all the accessories I had installed is around the $50K mark which is bloody scary but hey, I've worked hard all my life too. My end game was always specifically setting my Prado up for touring and towing a hybrid caravan (to 'one day' travel the country with my family) rather than for doing any '4 wheeling' in it so first up, I ensured I installed a pre-rego 3.5T GVM upgrade (2" lift Dobinsons suspension with airbags) when I first got it. Whilst I ended up with a similar'ish setup as your rig (got a bunch of Kaon gear but steered well clear of the underbody protection - additional weight), I purposely avoided the dual battery issue by using a portable power station (Bluetti AC200Max + 800W portable solar panels) for all my camping needs but it also doubles as an overnight power source for my kitchen fridge (fully charges by day using my 10.5kW home solar) so I effectively have the thing running 24/7 and it works great!! The thing I really need to get onto is to have my entire setup (tow rig and caravan) professionally weighed when fully loaded which could be a little scary but I did have minimising my weights in mind throughout my build. Anyhow as a new subscriber, I look forward to seeing more of your videos
Teenage kids, oh I still have that to look forward to (5 & 7 yo boys currently). In the process of builind my own "camper" and love taking my boys camping. Now subscribed. Thank you for sharing. Cheers
Just curious, do you still have your Prado? I'm in this dilemma to sell my Prado and replace it with Tesla Model Y or sell the wife's car, Merc B series. But I love my Prado. I don't do serious offroading. It's mainly camping and i see the EV charging stations are increasing day by day.
Very informative video. Subscribed to your channel. I have a 2018 GXL upgraded to leather trimmed seats. They are almost the same as Kakadu or VX. Worthy upgrade.
Same ~ GXL with the kit, got the 17s but missed out on some of the nice safety stuff from the VX; to late now. Agree Kaon stuff is very high quality, great service too.
I'm in the middle of building my own camper trailer/toy hauler, I've just finished painting the chassis and now finalising the design before i continue! I can't believe the amount of new skills I've had to learn since starting this project and its far from done, but i'm already super proud of it! Great walk around video, anything you would change or do better if you could do it again?
Probably not cheaper than my build. I steered away from the cheap Chinese built trailers as historically they’ve had dodgy steel and highly questionable welding
Thanks for the valuable information. I'm spot on your target audience with the same model land cruiser. Got mine without all the bells and whistles. Not even seat heaters unfortunately.
Good morning here for Texas, I am reaching out to get a question answer. I own a 2023 Gx 460 and will want to go over landing, I don’t like the over built and extra heavy vehicles here. I love the rear door with the tire carrier will that fit my Gx 460 here?do you know where can I order one ? Thank you! Love your channel
Hi Hector and thanks for your nice comments. I found this which seems retrofittable for your situation www.jwoffroad.com/products/lexus-gx460-tire-carrier-1
@@Boz_TOYS4DAD thank you, seen it before but I wanted to see if I can fit the prado door instead. Love your build. I am starting my built to mimic more the way the overlander are build in Australia. Here in the states everyone over kills their vehicle and don’t let the natural capabilities of the vehicle shine. Love the content and will be following for inspiration.
Silicone cover does NIOT cover “on” button which is a MAJOR design flaw. Pressing “on” button (by accident) with cover on, could result in gimbal damage.
I have a pocket 3, to get it out of the case, i plug a battery in it, it pulls out straighter, they needed some finger reliefs so you could grab it correctly. I agree flick it, works better.
As a long term Princess cruiser, watching your video was amazing. It was very informative and a fair report. I agree with all you said, and that is why I have done over 700 days of sailing on Princess. They are the best!!
Hi great video. Re your DCS aux battery. What battery surround have you used? Do you think it helps keep the heat away from the battery? Does it seal against the bonnett? Cheers. Robin
Hi - I used a regular stainless steel tray supplied by ORE (off road equipment) hard mounted to the inner fender from memory.. Isn’t heat shielded (much) and definitely doesn’t seal to the bonnet. Not required. The DCS batteries are bullet proof as evidenced by their weight- heavier than what you’d expect for a 75Ah lithium.
I can highly recommend the KAON rear shelf that hangs from 3rd row seat grab handles. It takes HEAPS of stuff. All that gear in your door pocket and rear table caddy would go up into it.
Hi Brian great video mate could you please give me some info about suspension on your Kakadu. I Just bought mine wanting to do a suspension upgrade but no one wants to touch it. Also I am from WA. Will be great if you can point in right direction. Thanks
Have a chat with Ian and the boys over at City Discount tyres in Joondalup. They’re in close collaboration with Malaga suspension and they can definitely handle a Kakadu
Hey mate. I don’t know why RU-vid showed me your video on my main page, but it did. And I’m happy to say I have seen it. Sincerely, an American dad who has always wanted to visit NZ. Looks like a dream trip.
howdy Carl and thanks for your kind words! I reckon there would have been at least 2000 Americans on board and I got to make some awesome new friends. Just because it's down-under don't think it's too far. It was a truly awesome trip. watching the SuperBowl from the top deck of the pool sipping triple-shot margaritas was on another level! Please like and subscribe!
i find it interesting that you hated the front shocks of the kakadu. lessions learnt I suppose. I know a fella that went from a GXL to Kakadu and couldnt be happier. Each to their own
yea I found the adjustability wholly ineffective. Actually had the stealership check to see if the adjustable shocks were working. All I can say is the Dobinsons were a massive upgrade! Highly recommended for all models.
hey @@Wednesdayat11 yea i'm aware of that. my 2nd car at the time was a GolfR, with proper electromagnetic fluid adjustable dampers. I've owned a couple of M-cars also and they too had this system. The prado system is a simple electric motor on top of the shock that winds down/up a bolt that adjusts the stiffness of the shocks. Comparatively speaking it was a poor attempt and barely noticeable. Plus, one more thing to go wrong. The Dobinsons were a set and forget adjustable shock that massively improved the ride of my car (along with the 40mm lift)
thanks mate. I was initially sceptical of the Rola platform racks as they're an "assemble yourself" option, but that's actually a strength as I Loctite'd all the screws and replaced their hardware with 316 grade washers and bolts. You won't be disappointed.
What does that comment even mean 🤔🤔 Anyways I ordered the M3 LR a couple of weeks ago 🎉🎉 great car, it's gorgeous. It is fast , quiet, comfortable to name a few. I too bought it for the tech but it's also one of the safest cars out there. Stealth Grey black interior. First EV , United States. Nice content Aaron
@@cellman1829 I'll explain. When a presenter speaks to their audience and refers to the audience as 'boys', they are implying that they are ignoring or have no interest in speaking to the other 51% of the possible audience. The 'not boys' part. Women. Get it?
Good video, I like how can be a bit critical of the car, so honest review. No car is perfect. I own a business so not sure novated lease is a good option. My business pays the monthly payments it claim the GST (maximum claimable) I'm an employee of my company so my company pays for everything and my personal income is not affected.
depending on the size of your business, salary sacrificing vehicles may still be viable. suggest talking to one of the larger novated leasing companies like LeasePlan or Maxxia for advice. All they can say is no, right? Also, most of the larger novated leasing companies can actually buy the car back from you if NL is an option. Lemmeknow how you fair!
