What do you think so far? Have you built any of it yet? Now that you have it, what do you think about the figures? I watched the show and it's pretty good, sounds like another season is on the way.
I don’t think we should be looking this at an investment point of view so early we’re not sure if they’re going to come out with other sets that include the same mini figures there possibly will be one or two, but they don’t redo, but I’m not too confident on that
I'm near 100% confident that most if not all of these minifigures will not be in another Lego set. The only set that might have one of them is an advent calendar.
Here in EU it is not flying off the shelves. LEGO MSRP in Germany 179.99 €, but could and can still be found on amazon for as low as 120 € since basically day one (33% off). This to me does not suggest that it's flying off the shelves. Does not mean it may be valuable after retirement, but the general appeal is not guaranteed based on these numbers. My guess is that after retirement, Darth Vader and C-3PO will be the most valuable ones, with Darth Jar Jar as the wild card (but objectively not the best looking).
I'm hoping the $180 price tag scares the heck out of parents, and as we see economies around the world in or near recession, I want this set to be ignored by collectors.
Was at a Walmart with these cases... and the 'overflow' of boxes were just stacked on top of the glass cases. There was an 'employee call' button box attached to the case
In my local target store they have pictures on the wall of all expensive sets and a button to push for help no key needed just tell employee what set you want a they bring it out. Much faster then waiting on Walmart employee who has no clue.

I no longer buy lego sets from WM (stores near me) cuz that spider wrap destroys the box. No way in hek will I pay full price for a damaged box. I might buy them at 50% off just for the figurines if the price is right.
That's what happens when you do business in blue state. If I was Walmart, I'd leave the state that supports criminals and let the citizens there suffer what they voted for. Even Tesla, google, and other corporations are moving out of blue state because it is not sustainable with all these tax, theft, and regulations.
It will be interesting to see if Walmart starts leaving areas more so than they already are. There have been a few cases where Walmart's closed down in high crime areas.
My Lego isn’t under glass or safety straps. But there’s no cmf figs. Came also don’t help. Just find a remote part of the store and you can open them up there. Hell you can pocket it. And unbox the cmf in the bathroom.
I once bought a STAR WARS set that was locked up behind glass. I politely told the employee I'm particular about the condition of the box and that I was going to inspect every one, there were only three, in order to find the one in the best condition. I took my time and did not let him rush me. As far as I'm concerned, if they're going to lock this stuff up, they are going to have to deal with everything that comes with it.
I am from Simi Valley and this kind of stuff is NOT TOLERATED. In fact, the stores have everything out, but no thiefs around to steal anything. Wanna know why? Because we actually have law enforcement who cares enough to lock up those thieves who steal your childhood.
Thank your local democrat for allowing soft on crime policies. Nationally, states with these policies have seen a drastic uptick in thefts. Often times police don't respond unless its a significant amount stolen. Look no further than CA for proof.
redesign the toy aisle and make it like the electronics section, have someone manned there all the time and lock all toys behind glass. I know kids can ruin some toys for certain people *packaging mainly* and then ofc the thieves. Or odds are they'll just sell them online.
The glass does work. Can't steal them, now you can force them to buy them online. Basically, walmart wins. Why loose money on something thats stolen so much.
That's probably what they were thinking. From my personal perspective. I usually spend about $2000/year at my local Walmart store on Lego. So far this year I have spent less than $200. My Walmart online purchases have stayed the same. So from me personally my local Walmart lost about $1800 in Lego sales so far this year. My local Target does not have glass, so I spent my money there.
I have the perfect idea ......however I will not share on here - Here's the hint : Walmart will get to lose the glass, stock more sets and keep everything boxed up, clean.
@@thecollectorinvesting I have a good idea too: Vending machine lego style. This maintains the glass barrier they want, but makes it self-serviced so you don't need to reach out to a Walmart employee. It's simple, treat it like a vending machine, label the spots with numbers like a vending machine, and put a credit card machine right there. It dispenses it down at a slot on the bottom for you to retrieve the box. Could be a good idea to maintain the security while keeping it self-service.
I remember when I first went to Walmart when they put LEGO behind glass. We waited for like 10 minutes for an employee to come unlock it, but no one ever showed up. I left empty handed & just bought the sets I wanted online
When I lived in California (recently moved to TN) the Walmart near where I lived by the time I moved had every last set behind glass, the area I’m from was a pretty crime ridden place.
Ask what Target is doing! I will be honest though, my local Target has the Lego Area right across from the Electronics Desk that is staffed by employees that can watch the Lego area!
Same with my Target. Walmart could fairly easy make a similar change. Target has complained about Target theft as well, but I'm not sure to what extent.
Lego theft is a probably in my store, yet still not to the extent of sports cards. I once even witnessed a guy with an arm load of large Lego sets push passed a women to go out through one of our rear emergency exits to a car waiting outside. The amount of spider wraps I find thrown behind other items is staggering and increasing in frequency. I blame our assets protection leadership on that one. They said that the spider wraps are too tight and it "damages the box." I say fuck the box; it's a damn box. I tell the people that stock to make that shit tight - as tight as a virgin on prom night .
Opening the LEGO minifigure boxes is the only way for LEGO to stop putting them in boxes. Hopefully stores stop carrying them. I’ve been a big fan of buying retail insurance claims LEGO recently.
In some of my Walmarts up to 90% of the LEGO sets are behind glass. That even includes some of the off-brand baseplates and sets. Weird thing is, in some the CMF/polybag section is not behind glass. 🙄 Luckily I found space CMF line at one Walmart with them in the open so was able to use the code scanner to get the minifigs I wanted. Did ask an employee to get me a set, she dropped it off at Customer Service so I had to get the cashier to go to CS to get the set for me. Did find some decent 50% off clearance at one Walmart, unfortunately missed out on a couple of sets I would’ve liked to have gotten.
The Walmart near me is awful. They put all the low-priced LEGO sets (like $10-$60) behind the glass cabinet, but put all the higher-priced LEGO sets on the regular shelves.
I've never even tried to buy a set from behind the glass. About three years ago, I needed a headlight bulb for my car. They were behind glass. I pressed the button, waited 7 or 8 minutes, pressed it agian, waited a few more minutes, then gave up and went to a different Walmart- farther away, but their bulbs weren't locked up. I'm not at all surprised that the glass cabinets have hurt sales.
I get it’s an inconvenience but if you wanna buy it you find someone to get it for you .. if your at all paying attention to society and the crazy democrats letting people steal $999 worth of stuff without being charged with a real crime .. Get out and vote and take our country back and I promise you , you will be able to go shop again !!
I honestly would only get anything behind glass if it was on sale and made it worth my while. So I suspect Walmart's going to have to push some very aggressive sales to make up for being behind a glass. Or they can have a help button nearby or basically communicate to their staff that someone always needs to be near the lego section area. In my store the legos are right by the technology, convenient because all the locked stuff is basically together so two departments should be nearby with keys. Still not ideal of course, but I think that at least semi helps.
I remember I read recently how Amazon loved the fact that Walgreens put toothpaste, deodorant and other day to day items behind security locks because people just don't want the hassle and end up buying that stuff in Amazon instead. This is definitely a similar case, sales dip because people who wanted the set just ended up getting it online instead of going through the trouble of getting an employee.
So thankful my Walmart has not put their Lego sets behind glass if they did I would completely stopped buying them and just buy everything from Lego Direct. I personally would not want the hassle of going and finding an employee open a case so I can buy something. I get Lego Is trying to be more green but the new cardboard boxes for Minifigures but the cardboard boxes are a disaster I've literally seen more open boxes then closed any of the new Minifigures I have to buy from the Lego store because the ones at my local Walmart are always open. From my Walmart and local stores that's really the only problem they have is with the new minifigure cardboard boxes. I don't just think it's Lego sells slowing down at retail stores such as Walmart Target est.. Rally anything that's a non-essential the sells are slowing down because everything is more expensive than it was even just a couple years ago. So things people with normally buy they're not because some people are even just struggling to buy food other household things that they need.
I agree, and it's at the same time that Lego is bringing multiple production facilities online. It'll be interesting what happens in the next few years.
If they put it behind the glass, I stop buying. I'm not hunting down an overworked employee to get them to find the manager with the Lego case keys. Ridiculous. Walmart has cameras everywhere, spider tags, asset protection. Idk how anyone is walking out with Lego boxes. I call B.S.
The idea is good- the problem is the employees- finding them, getting keys, etc. It’s more of a hassle and you end up deciding if you want to go through all the effort at the store or just order online and take your chances with damaged packaging during shipping. Neither option is great unfortunately…
The glass button assistance is so frustrated becauss i waited like 1 hour and i could even hear the voice on the intercom say assistant needed in the toy department but stil took 1 hour
That's true, but it has quadrupled in the last couple of years from my personal experience. Certain sets I won't even buy at Walmart or Target because I'm not convinced the minifigs will be in the boxes. I can't imagine a kid on Christmas morning opening a set he got from "Santa" and the minifigs aren't in the set. Really horrible stuff going on right now.
Locking Lego up is the forced solution to theft, because of the inflation that has caused Lego to raise prices by and up to 30%. That does not justify left in any case, but the glass case removes a huge part of the shopping experience for every person who enjoys Lego. There is just something about holding the box, and looking at it that allows us to connect more with the product. The CMFs have always been a high theft item and at this point they should probably be repackaged as guaranteed mini-figure packs. Which I know will take away a the thrill of getting a mystery figure, but at this point what else can you do?
Glass is fine. When purchasing Lego, I’m not in a hurry. And, we can always get sets online. I’d rather see sets locked up than hear about them being stolen.
For you, it's fine. Undeniably, it will harm physical stores sales. It might not be fine for the store. Simply take a look at the general consensus in the comments here for example. That is going to be felt by retailers who put it behind glass. It most certainly deters many would-be buyers. Of course, not everyone, there will still be people who won't mind, but if you're losing say, just a random number, 6 out of 10 customers who would have bought it if not behind glass, that impact is going to be felt and some hard decisions will have to be made at the retail end. They will likely have to buy far less inventory or consider freeing up the shelf space for something else entirely in the long run unless some changes can be made. A potential idea to circumvent the glass issue is, what if you paid for the legos right there as an option? What if it was in a vending machine style, each item had a number corresponding to it like a vending machine, you pick the number you want, and it pushes the box out down in a dispenser where you can reach in and grab it after paying for it right there. This eliminates the need of an employee, while maintaining a glass protective screen.
