🌱 Demystifying Home Education | Denormalising School 🌱

My aims with this channel are to:
➕ normalise home education in a world that treats school as the only norm
➕ show that children can receive an INCREDIBLE education on their own terms, in a way that respects their rights, wishes and innate interests.
➕ reassure those who are worried about taking the leap into home education that your child can learn all the skills to have a successful career, make really close friends, and operate in society
➕ help parents realise that YOU absolutely have the skills and resources to home educate your child

👋 👋 Hi, I'm Cathryn, a UK-based Mum of 3 Home Educated kids (girl/boy twins born in 2017, and their brother born in 2020). They are home educated from the start. We are non-religious, philisophical home educators (We home educate as our first choice, rather than it being a fallback option)👋 👋

Småland is a region in Sweden, where the founder Ingvar Kamprad was from. Små means "little", in Swedish and "land" is land, so it fits to have the area for the little ones called "Littleland".

@@nurturingdiscontent Thanks! 😊 When thinking about it, perhaps "small" would be better as a translation than little, in this case (I'm not sure though, to me as a non-native, and definitely non-perfect, English speaker those words feels pretty interchangeable, so I might use one, where the other one would be the better fit). At least "small" fits better in the pronounciation. "Small Land" sounds just like "Småland"!

Sadly they were doing that at the local McDonalds playland too. They'd drop them off and leave. Heck, I was at a dollar store once and a woman parked her pram in the buggy corral and took off to go shopping. Anyone could have walked off with the baby.
@nurturingdiscontent

@@42ayla yeh, to be fair, there is a shopping centre not far from where I live with a little softplay area for kids (not supervised) and I once saw a lady leave her young child there and go off around the shops. I was so shocked; another parent actually went off looking for her. Like you said in your example, anyone could have just walked away with her.

😂😂😂 and here is another one. I love that IKEA still does this!! We did this weekly at our local branch when mine were younger and they loved it ❤. Well my boys did! I'm considering this. Didn't realise it was an option but kind of did. It just seemed a forgone conclusion that you just go to school. But my child will barely be 4 in September and it seems so young and I'm nervous and they are very intelligent (noticed by nursery carers but not yet by school because of class size etc) and have expressed an interest in home education. So I'm looking into it and need to find a way to make it possible financially. I worry about the socialising aspect and them missing out on friends as they do currently attend preschool. Many things to consider but an instinct is prodding me to consider it seriously. Thanks for your video, its helpful to have a UK perspective
@nurturingdiscontent
@nurturingdiscontent Месяц назад
I can totally relate to this! Up until my kids were about 2/3 it didn't even occur to me that my kids wouldn't go to school, like you said, it just seemed a forgone conclusion and I didn't even realise it was an option. Then when I found out it was, it just made so much sense to me! You *really* don't have to worry about the socialisation aspect. My kids have so many other home ed friends and socialise in a much more normal way (not being forced together in a room with 20+ other kids). The financial side is obviously a big aspect and depends on your own individual circumstances, but I know many who do manage to also work part-time etc. Obviously happy to help with any other questions you have. Wish you all the best!

My issue isn't the school or the teachers. It's the system in general. The interesting thing for me is that I have mentioned home education to my in-laws and to my mum who are all retired teachers and they genuinely think school isn't right for my son. I don't think COVID is the source of the problem either! I think austerity has more to do with it if i'm honest. If anything jsp is making me want to home ed more lol

Yes, absolutely re: the "system".
