So instead of capping the speed on the hot paddles PPA is going to change the game by putting dumb rules. One thing that a player has control over during the game. What’s next speed up are only allowed through the middle of the court and cannot be sped up at the players.
There's one specific guy at Crescent who plays on Advanced side, he's a 4.0 normally, he becomes a 4.5+ with the TA paddle. He'd be easy to counter and beat normally, but the speed and spin from the paddle is unreal
Thank you three for posting. This week, L. Jansen lost to Chao Yi Wang, 11/1, 4/11, 7/11. In the end, Lea threw her paddle all the way across her court into the fence. Fined?? Of course not, she is a PPA golden girl (not so golden). IMO when people say "chirpy", it equates to poor sportsmanship. ALW is a horrible sport when losing and have seen her blatantly cheat like Esquivel. The first PPA (PAA) Vietnam Open in October.
Hey Travis, I heard you talk about paddles being Riley’s biggest downfall on the dink podcast. I’d have to disagree with that take. Riley started the year off hot, making semis or finals pretty regularly. He only cooled off since mlp started and I think the biggest issue for him is lack of high level games, it’s probably hard for him to find a rhythm and find a groove. I think Andrei is having a similar issue coming back from his suspension, even though the sample size is smaller. He hasn’t done too well in the two mlp and 1 ppa he’s done since he’s been back.
Paddle testing is the biggest joke in professional pickleball. If the PPA started handing out fines for paddles failing tests I bet everybody would start abiding by the rules.
Was there a line Judge who also called it out or was it the Ref at Kitchen line. Also all racket sports had this problem and it doesn’t destroy the sport. The human element is actually liked by many.
Haven't you admitted to making bad calls on purpose in the past? Going after this girl is weak. The score was 18/18 one point later. C'mon man, you are better than that.
It was one of the worst calls I've seen in professional pickleball. As somebody who is just an outside observer, I think it was good to let her and their team know that the call was wrong and show it and help her to realize if she doesn't clearly see it, she should not make the call at all in the future. All that being said, I think the way many of the folks are acting is just mean and poor to a fellow human. She is a person. She has feelings. She likely feels awful about it. I think if instead of calling people cheaters over and over, you use this moment to shed a strong light on the problems with self-calling lines, it could have a positive impact on the sport and positive impact on the world. I think much of that "good stuff" that could come out of it is being overshadowed by "Is this person a jerk or not? Is this person justified in being a jerk?" I don't think that should be the question to spend time and energy on. The topic should be "okay this is a huge problem. How can we get this fixed asap and what's the best way to do it?" Hope this comment is taken as it is intended which is as feedback in the hopes of making the sport and how we treat each other better. Love and peace to everybody :).
I'm getting really tired of the same discussion and no progress. So team owners here are my questions: Automated line calls - when ?? Is MLP too poor to afford this ? Listening to all this bitching about line calls makes you all sound like a bunch of bitchy little girls. This is like the 4th grade. Drug testing - When ?? Performance based paddle testing - When ?? Current paddle testing is clearly a joke. You have turned the whole sport over to a bunch of paddle manufacturers who should be supplying equipment based on the standards they are given. If someone really is beating their paddle with a lacrosse ball then turn them in and fine the crap out of them. Take charge for god's sake. In other words take charge and let's try for a sport where talent actually matters.
So the ref confirmed the terrible call. Your team can’t get over it at 17-17 and have a complete meltdown. Instead of it fueling the fire to win the team showed mental weakness and caved. It was ONE point in the match. After avidly watching pro pickleball for the past 18 months, I have determined that pro pickleball players have to be whiniest bunch of bitches in sports. Until pro PB can get a handle on line calls and take it out of the players’ hands this will never end and reactions like Lea Jansen’s will continue to embarrass the sport. Of course, it feeds the content machine
It's tough to agree on a penalty for wrong calls, unless someone has shown to be habitually bad at it. Otherwise, we are all wrong sometimes. Removing a timeout from the team that called it wrong could be a good penalty. Obviously wouldn't help if the game is almost over

This is what I posted, twice, on the MLP: "Great video quality while watching live, but this posting is horrible at 720p/480p and the sound is badly out-of-sink. Nice to have different cameras, thanks MLP/PPA. Hewett looks great, he has lost a lot of weight. Looks like Esquivel hasn't changed at all. 56:48, Esquivel isn't even looking at the ball and she calls it out... That ball was about 8 inches in (much easier to view live). And her partner, Hewett looks like he sees it but says nothing (I've seen Ben Johns overturn ALW's very poor line calls). And the lines-judge has NO clue what she is doing. Not even looking in the right direction and never saw the ball. Did she call it in??? IMO, this cheat created the difference for the win. And a little later Esquivel shows her unsportsmanlike conduct. 58:53 Again, her back is almost to the ball and she calls it out, she can't even see the ball. At least Hewett said something. The ball looked like it was a foot in. Just like a couple of years ago at MLP, horrible sportsmanship and just out-and-out dishonesty. I think it is interesting how someone can rejoice in a win when they know they clearly were cheating. And for those naysayers, sometimes it is difficult to see if the ball was out or in. Think of the Johnsons and how many out balls they actually hit. But this is just flagrant cheating to win a close game." She did the same thing a couple of years ago at the Mesa, AZ MLP. Edit: You should of sh*t on her. She has a history of dishonest calls. And until other players start really complaining, nothing will get done. Also, IMO, a Player's Union could eliminate many pro pickleball problems.
The freeze is essentially manufactured/fake scoring, much like the WWE! Punishing the team who is in lead and playing the best, ruins the purity of professional sports!
Ben and Hayden would be an excellent doubles team! The youth and offence Hayden brings, would take the pressure off Ben, much like Anna Leigh Waters did!
Yesss! It's a bad call, it sucks... Move on. BTW bad calls happen in all sports, not just pickleball... I agree there needs to be a better system, but there will still be bad calls, just not as many
I think penalizing bad calls needs to be implemented if line calls are going to stay with the players. First an organization needs to define outrageous line calls (balls that land fully inside the court not touching the white lines at all) and second I believe they need to implement a rule that uncertain in/outs default to in calls. As far as penalties I think there should be two sets, one for overturned calls during the match and another for outrageous calls. During the match first overturn is warning, second is forfeit of game, and third is forfeit of match. When it comes to outrageous calls professionals should be polls to see if fines or suspension would be better.
Whenever I am watching a high-stakes pickleball game I am never looking at the ball. Never, ever would I be looking at the ball. Why would anyone ever be looking at the ball? The ball part of the game should just be removed. (sarcasm)

Every day I put “pickleball” into google and then click “news”, because its awesome seeing facilities being opened all over america in small towns. Today, one of the top articles was about Graham opening up a huge indoor facility in st pete, Travis and Rachel Rohrabacher were mentioned. I dont live anywhere near Florida but im stoked for you guys. Also i forgive you for not uploading anything in years. Yall have been busy!
