@@ashbentley I definitely need a pattern for a flouncy pirate shirt. I might have one somewhere in my pattern stash. My sewing machine is currently packed from moving but I think I will set to making a shirt once it’s set back up.
Hey Ash, can you please give me some more info on the "scotch brite brus"? I have a ring that I would like to matte up as well and the way yours turned out looks exactly what I'm going for! I'm in NZ so might be able to find the same stuff here. Thanks!
For sure, I'll try adding the link to them here! I was so happy with the result 😊 They're used in a micromotor or similar. Just be sure that if your ring has a gemstone in it, that it's higher than a 7 on the MOHS hardness scale. Regular dust that can get in the brush usually has quartz in it, which can scratch gems. koodak.com.au/products/oro-mounted-brushes-scotchbrite?variant=32121877954654
Love your videos! I have a chocolate suggestion: Tony's Chocolonely dark milk chocolate with pretzel and toffee bar. They aim to be ethically-sourced. Ethics sure are yummy! 🍫
Love them. I also hate the lack of pockets on women's clothes. My pet peeve is the lack of inside pockets on jackets and coats. I've been knitting for 50 years (I learned when I was 7) and I have been crocheting for about 20 years. I like crochet because it's fast. But knitting makes more sophisticated garments. Love the slipper idea. Also something I always wanted to try. And crocheting moccasins using flip flops as the base.
Why don't we get inside pockets?? It's makes no sense. That's really good to know about the differences between knitting and crochet! I think I like the finished look of knitted garments more, but I also saw a cardigan with crocheted rats on it, so I think there are definitely merits to both. Flip flops as the base is a great idea!
@@ashbentley me too. The worst one was when I did a floor length full circle skirt and didn’t realise my bobbin ran out 1/4 of the way round until I was done 😭😭😭
Love this! I'll also be honeymooning in Japan so it's great to see where i should go for super cute buttons etc! Yes please to more baking content too, I've been to culinary school so i would love to hear more about your time in patisserie school!
Yay for honeymooning in Japan! You're going to have the best time! ❤ Cafes are open until like 9pm there, it's amazing. The food is incredible too 😊 I've moved house and the new kitchen isn't the best for filming in but I might try for some more baking in the future if I can figure out the set up 😅
Love watching your videos. You should definitely learn to knit….especially all those super chunky jumpers that use multiple yarns….and I have a heap of labels if you have a P.O. Box that I can send them to….or will be in Melbourne in two weeks so could drop them off?
I'd love to make a super chunky jumper! I have a bunch of good quality wool yarns but they're all different, I'm hoping I can make them all in to one jumper somehow (not sure if it's possible). I would love some patches if you have some you can spare and have the time to send them! I have a PO Box so that would be perfect ❤ Its PO Box 5047 Laburnum, VIC, 3130. Thank you so much!!!
Ive recently found your videos and am now working my way through all of them! I don't normally comment on youtube but I feel like your videos need more interaction so more people can find them :D I love the style of your videos and how your personality shines through, you are extremely relatable! (I also love that you still call them op-shops and not thrift stores!) No one else has mentioned the frame from the 90s with the nose and hands popping over the top, but I remember them too! Re the pumpkins - I've lived in Melbourne (well, Geelong) about ten years ago, and have lived in NZ the rest of my life and i dont think i have ever seen an orange pumpkin in real life haha. All of our pumpkins are grey/green on the outside, or the butternut ones, no matter what the time of year is 🤷♀️
Thank you so much! I definitely appreciate the interaction 😊 You know I tried calling them thrift stores a few times so my American audience would understand but it's just so ingrained, they'll always be op shops to me! And OMG I am so happy to hear someone else remembers the 90s frame!! 🥰
First of all that 3rd mock up looked excellent, I would be making so many pairs of jeans and trousers in that style. Second of all, everything you said about pockets in ladies ... everything is so true. Third the jeans came out great. Last of all, I too have a partner called Thomas and I thought he was the loudest sneezer known to mankind - your Thomas has made me reconsider 😂. Very last of all, I am so jealous of your Juki.
I loved the third mock up too! I have packed the pattern away for future pants because I am definitely making more. Omg the sneezing Thomas's 😂😂 I'm so glad I'm not alone in that AND that I got it on camera because it's hard to explain how loud it is😂 The Juki is some of the best money I've spent, highly recommend if you ever have the opportunity ❤
Nice job! I haven't made pants yet but mostly because many of the (men's, of course) cargo pants I found in the early aughts and bought a dozen pairs of, still fit and are still holding together (barely, many colourful patches). I have two pairs that hang by the door, one with garden loadout and one with work loadout, the work loadout pair weighs probably 10 lbs/4.5 kg cause I've got a multitude of tools in the pocketses and keys for six buildings on the belt loops. Today in addition to my usual loadout of knife, first aid kit, phone, marker, plant tags and scissors, I also had two 700 ml water bottles. And yeah, I literally leave a heap of stuff in a pile on the floor under where my pants hang when they go to the laundry... One thing I have had to do with some pairs of cargo pants is shorten the lower thigh pockets because either it strains and starts tearing the surrounding fabric when I've got something blocky like my phone in it, or becuase having heavy things too low when I'm doing active things has given me some rather spectacular bruises on and about my knees. So I do know where I want pocketses to be placed when I do eventually crack and make my own (the manufacturer no longer exists, which is a shame because those are the only pants with reasonable pockets I've ever found that comfortably fit my dad-bod-with-boobs body shape... and once they start disintegrating beyond being able to patch them back together, I'll be taking one pair apart to trace for a pattern.
4.5kg! Wearing your work pants would be a proper work out! It felt like trying to walk through water wearing just the jeans with nothing in the pockets. Not having pockets on the knees is sooo important. That's so great that have the pants to make a good pattern from too. Best of luck with it!
@@ashbentley Heh, yeah they're stretching out the waistband and that comined with some changes to my torso shape, I'm starting to be in danger of losing my pants...
I could feel the weight of all the stuff I put in the pockets starting to stretch the waistband on my jeans very quickly. Might be time to look into a pocket harness/belt?
@@ashbentley I don't really have hips to speak of and whatever I do has to be comfortable in the car, if I have anything that requires fiddling between home and work, it's gonna get left out and everything goes in the pocketses. This works well enough for now, though if I have to replace my screwdriver wtih a heavier set I may have to reconsider! I just need to make a few waist darts when the pants stretch too much, or add a little elastic panel or something...
these are so effing cool and ridiculous. two follow up questions: 1) can you sit comfortably in them (especially when the pockets are full of stuff?) and 2) how much do they weigh when the pockets aren't full? when you said at the beginning of the video something about the fabric being very heavy my curiosity was naturally piqued!
Thank you so much! I can sit as comfortably in them as with any other fitted jeans, the pockets don't affect it at all. I think the placement of the pockets worked out really well. I was also curious about how much they weigh so yesterday I weighed them! 1.3kg with nothing in the pockets. Honestly not sure how much a normal pair of jeans weighs but they are HEFTY
@@ashbentley That is so great to hear about comfortable sitting! so important. And thank you indulging my curiosity. Now I gotta go weigh some of my own jeans to get a suitable frame of reference! No matter what, this project you did was great. as was the feminist rant. 10/10
What annoys me the most are the tiny pockets on plus size pants, like I am a US size 3X there is enough real estate for full size pockets and I have to empty my pockets every time I sit down so stuff doesn't fall out
Ahhhh I love them so much! All the pockets! I absolutely hate tiny or fake pockets too. These are just wonderful. For knitting, yes, absolutely give it a try! I knit and crochet, I’ve made two sweaters this year and I’m working on my first summer tee. I was intimidated by garments for years but it’s really not that hard. And there are a ton of knitting tutorials on YT. As for slippers, yes! I’d love to see slipper making, sounds super fun. If you start knitting and enjoy it you could even knit/felt slippers.
Thank you 😊I have to look into to knitting and crochet to figure out which one interests me more first! That's so cool that you've knit whole sweaters, I'm so keen. And thank you for the vote for slippers!
I heard my native accent and clicked so dang fast into this video. I also was hanging for winter.... Until it happened and Melbourne decided to become an icicle and I have nothing to wear except pj's..... 😂
I've done plenty of pocket ranting myself. The worst kind of fake pocket is when they do a welt pocket that appears to be real but actually only fits a single tampon. You were SO CLOSE to an actual pocket, whyyyy?!
