I'm a massive music fan and have been collecting vinyl since the days when it cost less than CDs. Sometimes I talk about what I like and share insights I've had. Sometimes I sell stuff on Discogs. Giant Orange Records is also the parent company of my band The Electric Splash, and you can dig our music here: www.youtube.com/@theelectricsplash7384
The Soft boys is some of the best music on earth ,I have to say .Being there and at that time and place the Buzzcocks , The Undertones and the Dead Boys plus other more underground punk bands ruled the clubs back then. Most of the albums shown are more mainstream punks and I own most of them. ' Nice Video '
That must have been an amazing time! Yes, I'm working on expanding my punk collection, which is missing a lot of the bands that you mentioned. Thanks for watching!
I’m going to add some Canadian content for you to check out: Teenage Head from Hamilton Ontario 1970’s and Dayglo Abortions from British Columbia 1980’s will blow your wig back 🔥🔥🔥 Also check out the punk rock mockumentary Hard Core Logo from Canadian director Bruce MacDonald you’ll love it I think you can still find it on RU-vid Cheers from the Great White North
My #1 is "The Singles" by Bikini Kill (now on blue vinyl!). Joan Jett produced, plays guitar and sings on the first 3 tracks. A melodic blast of righteous anger and passion.
As an ex-Soft Boy (though not on the Underwater Moonlight album) it's good to see the band featured here. What is remarkable about Hitchcock and the Boys, is that the band made a much bigger impact in the US than here in the UK.
Wow, this made my day! Thank you for all the incredible music! I think the music of the Soft Boys is brilliant and Robyn Hitchcock is one helluva songwriter! Which era of the band were you involved in? Thanks for watching!
I've heard Wire's Pink Flag and love a few songs on there along with some tunes from their other albums. It's been a minute since I listened to X-Ray Specs and I'd love to check out the Adverts. Still don't recall ever seeing those anywhere on vinyl. This punk stuff is hard to find. What I showed here has taken me 20+ years to find, and it barely scratches the surface.
I discovered Angry Samoans the same day I discovered Surf Punks. Just haven’t come across any Angry Samoans vinyl. Punk vinyl is hard to find and expensive. I suppose folks hang on to their punk music. But I’ll track down their records someday.
Yeah, I don't have that one on vinyl yet. Like I said, my punk collection is still missing a lot of pieces, but I'll get there eventually! Thanks for watching!
@@giantorangerecordsHere are a few bands that demand attention Wire, New York Dolls, Dead Kennedys, The Saints, X (Australian band), X (U.S. band), Husker Du, Black Flag, Descendents, Pere Ubu, Gang Of Four, Patti Smith, Dead Boys, Fear, Crass, Joy Division, Fugazi, Social Distortion, The Birthday Party, Adolescents, The Slits, Misfits, X-Ray Spex, Flipper, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Undertones, The Ruts, Bad Brains, The Dictators, The Real Kids, Suicide, Radio Birdman, Stiff Little Fingers, Mission Of Burma and many more.
@@ianmcleish6113 Wire is great, love The Saints, saw X (from Los Angeles) a few years ago and they were great, never could get into Husker Du, love Descendents and Fugazi, just heard Adolescents recently and will be looking for them, I have some stuff by The Jam but they seem a little more Mod to me, wanna find some Siouxsie and Undertones, and gosh there are so many, this is a great big genre and geez these records are really hard to find because everyone wants them and once they get them they are keepers.
I also love vinyl but I do also like my 5th generation iPod no other digital device that I’ve hooked up to my amplifier and speakers has ever come close to sounding like it
That's awesome! I've had many (used pawn shop variety) iPods over the years, and they always sounded great. There was something about having a somewhat limited amount of storage space on a device like that. All my iPods have since died and I just didn't bother replacing the batteries anymore. They won't even fire up when plugged into the wall, but hey, I'm glad to hear yours is still going strong!
Right on, thanks! Yes, The Nude Party is really cool. They make a brand of rock 'n' roll that I find to fun, familiar, very accessible and really enjoyable. If you ever get the chance to see them live they really bring it on stage!
I had that Rain Parade album, and I want it back!! "I look around" a very great track! Listen to the psychedelic guitar! Last year I picked up another later record from The Rain Parade.
@@giantorangerecordsOther Way Out, Reflecter and Return Journey are my picks. Their catalogue is extensive and they are on YTube. I'd also suggest Ride and Slowdive from the British "shoegaze" band scene. There were a lot of interesting bands in the 90s. Last night I was playing some Rain Parade and Id forgotten how good they were.
@@giantorangerecordshere's a few other names: Eric Bell, Gary Moore, Henry McCullough, Gerry McEvoy, Jim Armstrong, John Wilson, Richard McCracken. All fine musicians.
Picked these two up on RSD and I agree that they’re fantastic. Also picked up SRC. The other jackpot lost psych classic reissue from the 60s. Only pressed to 1500 copies like Gandalf but the going rate on discogs is much lower. Definitely pick it up if you haven’t! The Amboy dukes, wonderwall, and Dave pike were other awesome psych records I picked up. Loved the video man!
Awesome, thanks for stopping by! Gosh, I thought I'd heard every psych record by now, but I'm actually not familiar with SRC or Dave Pike. I think I have an OG of that Amboy Dukes that I haven't gotten around to listening to after a pretty big haul. Thanks for the recommendations, I will def check them out online!
Emergency Third Rail Power Trip is a mindblowing album! I showed their follow up mini album Explosions From The Glass Palace on my last video. I came close to pushing the button on the RSD Gandalf… might still do! Great album! Great video pal. Subbed up. Cheers, Jack
Right on, it sure is Jack! Thanks for stopping by! "Explosions From the Glass Palace" is on my list, but I really prefer buying from record stores vs. Discogs, so I'll prob wait til I find a copy in the wild. Love your accent btw, and The Soft Boys are awesome too, strange alternate album cover art! Watching your video now.
@@VinylPiper I see your point, I never really gave that much thought. The only other American band I can think of that comes close to that territory is The Left Banke. Lots of keyboard wizardry, great vocals, melodies and lyrics.
The Gandalf is getting a general release on black vinyl. Buying RSD releases online right after RSD can be a mistake. The vast majority of RSD releases drop.
That’s great news! The whole point of me getting these on RSD was because they went for so much less than the going rate. But since I recorded this video the prices have gone way up!
@@giantorangerecords I wanted to get the Ramones 75 demos but the prices are too high right now. I have waited up to a year before the price dropped on a Bowie RSD release and a Sonics RSD release.
@@vinylrichie007 nice! That’s good strategy. I was jazzed about that Al Wilson album (RSD 2023) I showed in the B-Roll and that went from $28 to $11… I got that in November, and here it’s May and I still haven’t opened it yet. But yeah, that Ramones demos from this years RSD is on my list. Just gotta wait til the hype fades. I’ll have plenty to listen to in the meantime.
Yes, they’ve really surprised me with how good they are. Though I’ve heard them before, the vinyl experience is extra rewarding with these. It’s also been many years since the I’ve listened to these.
Video editing is an enjoyable process for me. It's fun to throw in some B-Roll. That Yardbirds side one in particular is about as good as one side of a record can get!
@@giantorangerecords yep 👍 I’m learning the ropes on editing on iMovie ! Did you get the Yardbirds Live 68 that Jimmy page redid a few yards ago ? It’s brilliant
Yeah i have a UK copy of that Animals album, but i do have quite a few Kiwi pressings but then again i live in Melbourne so we have lots of New Zealanders and th heir albums too, love all that stuff. There is a great fiftieth anniversary pressing of Arthur woth a whole extra album. Picked up a great decca repressing of the first small faces album, i have as n OZ copy too, i have multiple copies of most smallfaces albums .take it easy mate
Right on, thanks for tuning in! That's cool how pressings from all parts of the world make it to different places over time. My only OG Small Faces is "Ogdens" with the circle sleeve and crazy clover fold out. I think my "There Are But Four Small Faces" might be a boot, but it's hard to tell. Good to know about that deluxe "Arthur." It was a high water mark album for The Kinks, though I love all their '60s stuff almost equally. And you know their outtakes from that era are probably as good as what made it on the albums. "The Great Lost Kinks Album" is proof of that.
Hey Buddy!! Had To Come Back On And Add To Your Comment On Monster Records... In Charleston.. Well I Am In Beaufort !! About 70 Miles Down The Road And Washington Just There Last Week.. We Get There Often... Yes!! Great Store!!! Such A Small World!!! I Must Say, I Love Your Channel... A Young Man Who Likes Psychedelic Music Well Done!!!
Thanks for the kind words! I lived in Charleston for a long time, and my family still lives in Summerville, so when I go back to visit I usually stop in there. There are some other stores that are kinda cool, but they have let me down in a few ways that Monster never has. Yes, I love the psychedelic music and a lot of '60s music in general.
Very Nice My Friend!!!! Got My First Record Player For Christmas 1965 .... At 13 All My Allowance And Lawn Mowing Money Went Toward Records!!!! British Invasion Was Still Happening As Well As Garage Kicking In .... Such Magic!!! No Wonder I Still Collect To This Day ...
i was looking for reactions to The Olivia Tremor Control and your video came up. obviously not a reaction video, but love to see another fan out there. i really think both of their LPs are some of the best music ever made in that genre. cheers
Right on! Glad you dig the sounds of the OTC. I've tried to lead many a horse to their water, but a lot of folks just don't get it. I'd never really thought to do a reaction video, but I've heard their music so many times for so many years it wouldn't be a first reaction, but I'd say I still feel some sort of positive or interesting reaction each time I listen. Their are many layers to The Olivia Tremor Control.
Check out “THE BODYSNATCHERS” EP on RidingEasy Records. Recorded in the studio live in 1978, The Bodysnatchers were the first punk band recorded in Austin, Texas.
Thanks for the suggestion! Had not heard this before. The first song reminds me of a cross between The Troggs and The Stooges! Having two bass players is pretty cool and the production is top-quality!
Super channel I just subbed you up! I am a huge fan of RSD, the one release I am after is Gorillaz "Cracker Island" exclusive vinyl, I mainly talk rock vinyl on my channel and share a few concert clips, thanks again for the great RSD info, Peace!
Some record stores aren't as into it. Maybe you can find another store in the area that's participating. RSD is a lot of hype, but some of it is warranted, and this is about as good of a list as I've seen in a long time.
There's something special about playing these songs on 45s. So many of these bands only ever made one single, some made a few albums, but it was glorious and short-lived time in music.
I just discovered your channel. Many of these albums are also on my wantlist. I have a bootleg of that Gandalf album, but will still get this new official reissue. I think this year's list is a bit more interesting than the previous years. April 20th can't come quick enough.
Finally a video of a RSD list I’m interested in. I purged that Slits album. I didn’t think it was very good. I still haven’t seen anyone show my #1 want.
What's up Vinyl Richie! Thanks for stopping by. And what is your No. 1 RSD pick for 2024? Obviously I left a few things out, but I'm probably really only going to grab a small handful of these.
I listened to that 3 o clock record you showed on RU-vid, really cool stuff. I have a signed seeds record, I have no way to verify but it says “to my brother, sky sunlight Saxon” and it looks just like verified copies of his his signature and handwriting online. I found autobahn at a local antique store last year for 2 or 3 bucks, great album! I need to get some feelies
Lollipop shop and golden dawn rule! They don’t get mentioned enough in the VC! I hope you get some chocolate watchband, there second album the inner mystique is probably my favorite album of 1968
Hell yeah, good stuff! It's taken me a little longer to warm up to The Chocolate Watchband, I don't have any of their stuff on vinyl, but I've heard No Way Out a few times. The Inner Mystique is cool and all, but I see it as being darn close to a covers album and I tend to like the original versions a lot better. That said, if someone puts it on at a party I'd be dancing!
I'm glad to see a 45 guy. You should pick-up a copy of the "Here's Loretta Lynn" album, if you see it. (MONO, not fake srereo if you can) You can get it for like $4. This is her best album,. The cream of L.A. session players too. The only song missing is her first semi-hit "Honky Tonk Girl", recorded at the same session. Great back story too.
Nice! Thanks for the recommendation! I haven't seen that one out and about. I usually pick up any Loretta Lynn record I see, unless they're beat to hell.
I really enjoyed this video. It was different than almost all the other RU-vid record videos. I'm starting to like jazz-ish female vocalists myself. I picked up an Ann Phillips LP recently. I don't remember ever finding that Rita Reys. I'm surprised. Sometimes a vocal is good and sometimes the mimimal musical background is real good, with guitarists like Barney Kessell and others that escape me right now. I'm 72 and I've bought thousands of albums (well, maybe a thousand) that are only to be played on stereo equipment but it never occurred to me to play one on a mono record player. Probably because it supposedly ruins the record but I've thrown out hundreds of those stereo records too. It never occurred to me to see what it would sound like if I played one. Unreal. You might want to play the Jet Set album cut by Laurendo Almieda (?). He's a great Brazilian guitarist and plays beautiful jazz too. I'll subscribe.
Martin Denny was phenomenal. I really liked his stuff, especially in stereo. Also check out Si Zentner. I got hooked on him about 10 years ago, and bought almost all of his albums.
I like Keely Smith's "Palm Springs Jump" and play it often when I'm at my house in Palm Springs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JClTm2XKtuU.htmlsi=fx0gqqN0mUt3lKW- I bought a collection of her music on CD recently.
