What the hell is garage rock? Well, hopefully you'll find out by the end of this video and maybe Lester Bangs will raise his dead hand back from the grave to give this a thumbs up!
Thanks for mentioning Nuggets great collection of garage bands which features my old band The Vagrants featuring Leslie West from Mountain. We also had and album on Arista The Great Lost album. Drummer Roger Mansour former Vagrants.
Wow Roger, thanks for reaching out! I love the song "I Don't Need Your Loving." And it speaks volumes that The Vagrants rippin' version of "Respect" is on Side 1 of Nuggets, which I've probably listened to 1,000 times since I was 15 or so. It must've been pretty exciting to play with Leslie West, one of the most incredible and often overlooked guitarists of the rock 'n' roll era. I will make an effort to track down those collections of The Vagrants tunes, "The Great Lost Album," and I see there's also one called "I Can't Make a Friend." Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for making such incredible music for us!
The IA label definitely fits into the criteria you laid out. I’m going to give a shout-out to the local heroes like the Wailers, The Sonics and the early Don and the Goodtimes.
Nice! I do love The Sonics, though I've never been able to find any of their records. I've also heard their reissues don't sound so hot, so I'll keep hunting for some original pressings, which might be on the lo-fi side.
@@giantorangerecords My friends early wild , child sister had a 45 from the Seeds "Pushing Too Hard " late 10 /65 , and the 13th Floor Elevators "You Gonna Miss Me" in about the same time in early autumn 65 , when I was only 8 yrs old . I thought my friends sister was a weirdo listening to these early /punk / psych tunes. That's right those two bands were , originally considered early punk that morphed due to more inflections on guitar sounds by 63-64. By 65 psych was becoming a sort of neophyte made with these morphs. Best way I can explain it. And from what I red from a comment on YT , "Can't Make You Mine" by the Seeds , and "You're Gonna Miss Me " actually were played @ middle of night ( ie: around 10 pm till 5am back like Early 65, and was the early underground psych that by end of 65 was blossoming ). Also, those turbulent political events , that stemmed Evan as far back as the signing of The Constitution , considering the aggregation of game changing events, but, that really started to come about in the mid 50s , the assassinations of JFK , M L K , RFK , anti-;war (Vietnam War ) protests , Drug use becoming more widespread , the clothing , hairstyles , Motown , Surf Music , emergence of womans'Lib , all coming about that would have a heavy influence on POP music , or actually any type of music that had been played @ that very historic time period of , actually , from the jazz age of those roaring 20s onto the future . As clear as mud , huh? LOL sumwat .

Great video! Thank you for sharing some great titles to be on the lookout for! This is what I expect to get from the VC! Stay true my friend. Avoid the blood pool parties of those who attempt to stay afloat by drowning others. There are some desperate fools out there with no shame and no game. Don’t be fooled. They are a community of few, NOT the real VC. Your video is highly informative as well. You got my subscription!
Thank you for watching! I just get so jazzed about this style of music, I figured I would share my enthusiasm with others rather than keep all this info to myself or my close friends, who probably get tired of me talking about this stuff all the time.
Just discovered your channel in my feed. Enjoyed the garage rock display of bands. Being an old VC guy I loved those sounds of the 60’s. Well done. I subbed btw
Lollipop shop and golden dawn rule! They don’t get mentioned enough in the VC! I hope you get some chocolate watchband, there second album the inner mystique is probably my favorite album of 1968
Hell yeah, good stuff! It's taken me a little longer to warm up to The Chocolate Watchband, I don't have any of their stuff on vinyl, but I've heard No Way Out a few times. The Inner Mystique is cool and all, but I see it as being darn close to a covers album and I tend to like the original versions a lot better. That said, if someone puts it on at a party I'd be dancing!
Hey big 🍊 1, very cool stack there bud....love me some garage rockers.......love seeds web sound and the the leaves, u listen much masters apprentices..... great band early stuff garagey then sound changed over time....anyway great showings......healthy wantlist too... good luck✌️😃
Thank you! I have not heard Master Apprentices until you mentioned them. I just check out a song online and it sounds great, will have to give it a proper listen, thanks for the suggestion! I really love bands from Australia.
I have, or have listened to, most of the albums you’ve shown. Love Garage/Psych. Have since I was a kid. Another compilation that’s awesome is’Highs in the Mid-Sixties’ lots of volumes. Cheers!
Yes! I was just looking at a record I got shortly after making this video and the label on the record says “Highs in the Mid Sixties” although the cover calls it “Pebbles Vol. 18, The Continent Lashes Back - European Garage Rock part 2.” It’s an incredible compilation that has some really good and hard to find songs on it. You have very good taste!
Hello You know what you're talking about. I just remembered the words by Bob Dylan about the subject: We all played in garages". Heard most of albums you showed here. Greetings from Sweden.....
Thank you! Glad to know these sounds have made it to Sweden! I always tell people that garage rock is an international genre. I remember Dylan talking about that on Theme Time Radio Hour a while back.
Very informative , and youngins should be slowly reintroduced to it. Hey , times are worsenow than the Vietnam Era , so to give rebellious attitude of yesteryear.
This was great! Like you I dig 60’s garage rock and have many of these albums! And most of the “honorable mentions” you are seeking! Man there are some great garage comp series out there too! Here’s some to you should check out-Highs in the Mid Sixties, Fistful of Fuzz, Garage Rock Unknowns, Also check out Numero Group’s Acid Nightmares Warfaring Strangers! If you dig the 60’s garage bands then you’ll likely love some of the 80’s garage rock revivalist bands too! Here are a few you should look into! The Chesterfield Kings, The Miracle Workers, The Fuzztones, The Cynics, The Vipers and Gravedigger V! I subbed your channel and look forward to seeing more of your collection! Peace ☮️✌️👽🤘☮️
Thank you for checking it out! You have good knowledge and insight! Those comps you mention sound incredible, and I really like how creative they got with the names of those. I'm still slowly getting into the '80s garage revival stuff. Some of my friends have been educating me a bit more on that. One of those friends gave me a Fuzztones and a Miracle Workers (a reference to the '60s garage song "I Ain't No Miracle Worker" I would have to imagine) record and another one I really love is by The Primates. There were so many '80s garage bands that I have yet to discover.
Hey,I just checked out your channel.I always have a thing for garage rock I mean,GARAGE ROCK I'm a black man who happens to love this gaura of music that proceeds punk rock of the mid seventies which I also am also a fan of.I really want to get a copy of the count five album and I also noticed that you have the SEEDS reissue debut album I'm sure that you've checked out the extended 16:00 version of "evil hoodoo"I should know, I have a copy of the album as well. Anyway, stay safe great collection of VINYL.
That's awesome, thanks for stopping by to check out the channel. Love the Count Five and Seeds records, though I haven't put on the second disc of the Seeds reissue yet as I've just been so knocked out by the quality of the reissue of the album itself, but I'll get to those bonus tracks very soon.
