I picked through a collection that obviously seemed to come from the same household at a thrift store. This was housewife friendly music and entertainment with a few old children's records thrown in the mix for fun. We also get a cool mono vs. stereo story.

Digging this channel. In the 90s, before the Towers fell, I had a "lounge-o-billy" band in NYC and we played all over Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Jersey and CT, clubs, weddings, colleges. People love this kitschy, old-time music that you don't have to think too deeply about, just groove or dance. The audience gets bigger and smaller, but it never completely dies, partly thanks to you, young man! Cheers J👍

That’s awesome! I didn’t know lounge-o-Billy was a genre, but it sounds fascinating. There is just a certain quality to this old, almost forgotten music. It’s just kind of fun to know it exists and ponder on who would’ve listened to it then and figure out who still listens to this stuff now.

Great video and perspective of all of these albums that time forgot . im a sucker for a clean copy of just about anything from the 50s .

A lot of these are in pretty good shape! Quite a few of those probably won't get too many spins from me, but listening to them all back to back was quite a trip!

DELIGHTED to discover Rita Reys apparently stuck around for a fairly decent career. She's here on RU-vid.

Martin Denny was phenomenal. I really liked his stuff, especially in stereo. Also check out Si Zentner. I got hooked on him about 10 years ago, and bought almost all of his albums.

I really enjoyed this video. It was different than almost all the other RU-vid record videos. I'm starting to like jazz-ish female vocalists myself. I picked up an Ann Phillips LP recently. I don't remember ever finding that Rita Reys. I'm surprised. Sometimes a vocal is good and sometimes the mimimal musical background is real good, with guitarists like Barney Kessell and others that escape me right now. I'm 72 and I've bought thousands of albums (well, maybe a thousand) that are only to be played on stereo equipment but it never occurred to me to play one on a mono record player. Probably because it supposedly ruins the record but I've thrown out hundreds of those stereo records too. It never occurred to me to see what it would sound like if I played one. Unreal. You might want to play the Jet Set album cut by Laurendo Almieda (?). He's a great Brazilian guitarist and plays beautiful jazz too. I'll subscribe.

Awesome, thanks for the kind words! Barney Kessell is great, and that reminds me, I need to dig out those albums, haven't spun him in a long time!

Have you seen the RE/Search interview with Martin Denny? Pretty great.

I haven’t, but I’m very intrigued. I really don’t know much about him other than a dear friend told me I need to check out his albums.
