Actually not Amina Claudine Myers' Quartet, but a joint all-stars quartet, originally meant to be a trio: Jim Pepper, Don Cherry, and Leopoldo F. Fleming were entrusted a workshop for children at the festival, and subsequently they were supposed to play a concert together as a trio. Unfortunately, Don Cherry could not be located for some weeks before the festival and never showed up. At the time of the festival Amina Claudine Myers was on tour in Spain with Lester Bowie. Last minute Amina agreed to participate. Anthony Cox, who had played at the festival with “Play”, was also invited. The concert was broadcast on Austrian TV, from where this and the three other takes come. In 2006 the concert was released on CD "Afro Indian Blues" with all four names equally.
Magnifique !
Terrific fiercy gorgeous jazz!. Legrand got superb bassist and drummer to match his creative virtuosity at the Plano, in one of his best-known compositions! 🍮👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you for posting! I had been looking for a higher quality version of the performance of India at 2:27, which has been on RU-vid forever, but in really bad quality.
Fantastic footage. Thank you for posting it. I wanted to ask you if you also have the rest of this appearance - they played one other song titled 'Making Music' before 'Sally', if you could upload it, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks.
