This channel is about finding adventures large and small. Based around the Dual Sport/ADV Bikes, we will be exploring multiple excursions short and long. We will work on bikes and gear and then go test how they work out. There will also be items out of the ordinary to change up the norm. My sincere hope is that you are entertained and inspired like so many other channels here on RU-vid! Thanks so much to OBI- WAN (Dane) for so much inspiration! Enjoy and thanks for spending your valuable time watching me carrying aimlessly on. Cheers! William (DOC 650)
@@pnfctg12 Hey there! I really like the Shinko 705s a lot. I have over 3,000 miles on the set and I have mostly ridden on road but I have used them off road also. Other than mud, they perform really well. The front tire wear is excellent and the rear is at about 50%. In will be replacing the rear tire due to an extended long mileage trip I have coming up. You should be able to get about 5,000-6,000 miles out of a set with ease. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Thanks for putting up the video. I've got a DR and took it out on a 4-5 hour trip in roughly 30 Degree Celsius recently with a bunch of guys on BMW sport touring bikes and cruisers. Most of the trip was easy going back road but we did a solid hour of 130km/hr and I gotta tell you that was about the noisiest windy ride I've been on. Physically it was a little tiring but the noise at that speed was insane, ear plugs included. (I didn't overheat though :) ) My concern with a short screen like that, and I could hear it in the video, is the buffeting at speed. I feel the width would allow enough air to keep cool. For some background, I currently also ride an ST1100 and spent some time and money on getting a shield that lets very little air through. I can see just over it and it is extra wide too. Great for cold weather (Canadian here), real stinker in heat described above but that's what the DR is for I guess right? After all that: Any experience at say sustained 80MPH+ freeway speeds with that shield? Noisy?
Great comment Man! Congratulations on owning one of the best motorcycles ever made! The windscreen does not fully eliminate the buffeting at higher speeds but does mitigate it some. It greatly helps in colder weather by reducing the wind hitting your chest and rising up towards your helmet. It is definitely a good addition for the DR. There are some other good windscreens which provide more wind deflection out there. I guess the Parabelum screen is a compromise between size and capability . Great to hear from a neighbor up in Canada! Hope this video was of some help and ride safe Mate!
Suck review. Was there buffeting around your head. Did you test it above 40 MPH? Does it cause any front end wobble at 65 or 70? This was a waste of time. Do better if you want to build your channel.
Hey doc just got mine in blue silver gray 2022 brand new. Chose it over the 2024 de. Much more comfortable and stable munching 170kmh highway speeds! Thanks a lot!
@@josephcaniones4629 My pleasure Joseph! Congratulations! It’s a great bike that’s very versatile. I have taken it off road at times and it did well also. For mild trails and long portions of pavement, it’s hard to beat.
@@teslageek9257 Thank you! Glad it was of some use! I sold the white DR to my neighbor and the parts are still working well. They make a Huge difference over the stock setup. Cheers!!
After two pinch flats in two months, I am looking to try this heavy sidewall tire on my DR650. Did you go with the 120mm or the 130mm width? I am running a Shinko 244 in the 5.10 width currently.
Hello! I went with the 130 in the rear. It does well on and off road. The side walls are tough and a pinch flat should not be an issue. An example of this is K had them sitting around for awhile (mounted) and put them back on my DR and they looked fine. In always check tire pressures before a ride and they were at really low pressure even though they supported the weight of the bike fine. Also, a friend has them on his Tenere and he rode across the US twice and still had plenty of tread left. They can get sketchy in wet situations though due to the tire compound. Hope this helps! Ride On and Cheers!!
Thank you very much. I will get one today or order one. Arkansas is putting down some jagged gravel down on my roads between here and work. My revered (cheap) Shinko 244 is not holding up well.
I bought a Seat Concepts for my DR650 and was unhappy. I found a used Corbin for $50 and I like it much more. Just finished a 1400 mile 7 day trip and I still had to stand up once in awhile but could generally do 50 to 60 miles before my butt was screamin.
Excellent! Glad to hear that you have a great solution to the seat issue! The SC seat is OK but it does take awhile to break in. Thanks for the info! Appreciate it!
@@Oatmeal_TVx If you’re talking about the DR 650, Yoshimura RS2 exhaust should work on a 2024. I would check their website to ensure it does work. All DR650s are the same from 1996 on (other than emissions stuff after 2022) that doesn’t affect the exhaust system
I've been through this.before , u need the stapler with the smaller gauge staples the penetrate deeper ..the thick heavy duty staples don't go in plastic deep enough
Hello there! I have Tusk pannier racks and Wolfman Rocky Mountain panniers. They have served me well over the last few years. The Tusk racks are well made and provide some protection for my exhaust if I have a fall. There are a bunch of different choices for panniers. My recommendation is balance cost versus utility that meets your needs. Thanks for the great question!
@@doc650adventures thanks my man! One more question. I currently have the Leo Vince on my 24dr but I also have the yosh system. When running the yosh the decel pop was just to much. Did you find a way to lessen this?
@@dylangilbert7672 My pleasure Man! The decal pop is due to unburned fuel that ignites when the single cylinder (big air pump) continues to cycle. It is normal but the severity of it can be adjusted with the air/fuel mixture. Try leaning out the carby (mixture sweet spot) and it should reduce the popping. Mine still has decel pop if I chop the throttle but a slower reduction in throttle it doesn’t happen. Congratulations on your 2024 DR650! They are great bikes! Hope this long winded explanation helps. Also, check out the ProCycle channel and webpage to get more information on decel pop. Cheers!
@@dylangilbert7672 Hey Man! Thanks for watching! Decel pop is a normal thing on a big single cylinder motor. It can be mitigated with jetting and fine tuning your mixture. ProCycle has a great video explaining this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Y5kXMcCrKg.htmlsi=Ky4imNf0fSG9fOTB Cheers!
Do you remember what your measurement was with the spacer that came from Cogent? I know it's supposed to be 7-10mm but I had to use the OEM spacer to get that measurement. I just finished the same project yesterday on my '18 and haven't had a chance to ride yet. Can't wait! Awesome video! I just wish i would have seen it before I started the process. Lol👍🏼
Hi Mike! I used the spacer included in the kit due to also having the adjustable preload fork caps. I am able to fine tune the space/ preload on the springs. Using the OEM spacer will work fine. Thanks for the kind words and you are going to love your new suspension! Check back in to let us know what you think of the changes! Cheers!
It is necessary to remove the caliper due to its position relative to the wheel. I used the owner’s manual as the reference for this. I wish I did not have to remove it for sure! Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Did you use the little square of rubber between the bottom of the stand the new footprint? I installed the same one but found it was loose and ended up adding even more dense foam to have it sit securely and not rattle while riding.
Hi Chris! I did use the rubber tab that fits inside the footprint. I also used lock tight on the screws to keep the footprint tight. So far it has been working fine. Good solution you have with some extra padding in the footprint! Cheers!
Great job. However the washers with the rubbers were installed wrong. Both of those washers should be on either side of the new windscreen and the flat washer goes on the inside of the existing headlight cowl. The instructions clearly point that out. Take care
Hey DOC, Great video thank you for taking the time to make and post! Now that you've had the Cogent springs and Mojave rear shock for almost two years do you feel they're worthy of the additional cost? (Especially the Mojave) I'm guess your riding style is close to mine not aggressive but somewhat spirited at times. In my early 60's now so I'm not out there trying to get hurt, takes too long to heal haha!
Cheers Buddy! I’m am glad these people videos were of some help! If you plan on keeping your DR650 for many years, the suspension mods from Cogent are definitely worth it! Better on road manners and transformative performance off road. Sounds like our riding styles are similar. I do like to tear out up off road sometimes though. Understand about the age thing and not wanting to get hurt. I am late 50s and typically ride alone which limits my aggressiveness. Hope this is helpful and thanks for the great question!
The Yoshimura with proper jetting should yield about a 10% hp increase. Your throttle response will really improve also! Thanks for watching and the comments/ question!
Just ordered mine and enjoyed your video. If you happen to see this and have any comments about where you have the clickers set please share. I installed the ddc's last week and haven't had a chance to ride yet. Looking forward to a fully kitted suspension when it warms up, 10*f now. :)
10 degrees? Yuck! Good time to mod your bike though! I have not made many adjustments to my new suspension since Cogent had it set really well out of the box. I have at times adjusted the spring preloads on both the forks and the rear shock depending on the terrain I would ride. More off road and the front gets more preload and the rear gets a little more due to adding panniers with gear. There is only about 20mm of added preload on the rear shock due to the risk of damage to the shock. I can tell you that the suspension upgrade is definitely transformational for the DR! Thanks for the update and keep em coming! Hope it warms up for you soon!
In SC, in the low state, we be barefoot. In the mid state (armpit of the south Columbia) we go flip flop. In the upper state, close to the cultural meccas, we gots to go with Crocs.
It works well for my weight (190lbs + gear). Now that my riding ability has improved, I might go with stiffer springs. Cogent will walk you through the spring rate based on your weight, riding style and level of experience. Hope this answers your question. Cheers!
Hi Doc, hey I have a question? I just purchased a new DR 650 and want to switch out the tires right away. I’m going with the Motoz Dual Venture for the front, and would like to go with the Motoz tractionator adventure for the rear. As you know, the stock rear is a 120/90-17 but they don’t offer it in that size. Do most people run a 130/80-17 instead? Thank you for your videos. You have a lot of good information
Excellent video! Planning similar mods when I get my new DR650 this Spring! Can you stick with that smaller front sprocket retainer if you go back to a 15T, or do you need to reuse the original in that situation? Cheers!
Thanks for watching and the kind comment! You can use the smaller sprocket retainer if you go back to the stock 15T front sprocket. I am currently running that configuration. I have gone down as low as a 13T in the front for more technical trails also. Congratulations on getting a new DR650! I hope some of my videos will help as you do some modifications in the future! Cheers!!
@@TK-cl1jm I do run the same type of tires front and rear. I use Dunlap Trailmax Mission for long trips with more road than trail time. For more off road stuff, I use MOTOZ Tractionator RallZ rear and Desert H/T front
Well it looks like I’m getting a pair of pivot pegs for my DR Being able to pivot +20- degrees should help out when you’re standing, allowing your back and legs to have a little more flexibility? Being able to stand longer because it’s more comfortable, means longer and better saddle time as well. OR maybe it won’t make that much difference? Lol. We’ll see? Thank you for the video and I love your zero fluff approach to making videos.
